  Aldehydes, bergamot, and sage open with a bold initial accord that at first smells like forgotten Norma Desmond: black velvet and closet dust. But if you let it breathe, as if opening the windows and letting spring in, it comes alive with jasmine, rose, and a spicy warmth. The EDT is brighter and sweeter than the Extract, perfect for secret nights or rainy afternoons watching ‘Double Indemnity.’ Although the line stopped in 1988, it’s still available at secondhand shops, and modern versions like Irma Shorell’s are worth comparing.

  Jean Lanvin saved her creation ‘Mon Péché’ from failure in Paris, turning it into a massive hit in the US in 1925. For me, my favorite remains ‘Arpège’, which a teacher gifted me over two decades ago; both are ultra-sophisticated. For eighty years, Lanvin has made waves in the fashion world. While older generations know the brand for its heritage, young people love it just as much. ‘My Sin’ was the fragrance that catapulted the brand in 1924, reaching even those who didn’t buy her dresses. The story behind ‘Arpège’ is tender: it was born from the sound of her daughter’s piano scales. Relaunched in 1990, it proved her perfumes are timeless. Despite changes in ownership with L’Oréal and Harmonie SA, Lanvin remains the company’s pride, unstoppable and capable of enchanting everyone.
