Descripción
Hugo Dark Blue by Hugo Boss is a spicy oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 1999, this composition was created by Alain Astori and Beatrice Piquet. The top notes unfold with ginger, grapefruit, orange, lime, and lemon; the heart reveals cypress, cardamom, cedar, geranium, and sage; while the base notes settle on vanilla, cedar, benzoin, vetiver, and patchouli.

The perfume I used to wear out at night during my teenage years.
My first official perfume; I really liked it, a sweet scent like a drink. Back in 2003, I don’t think I’ll get it again, but I still enjoy it; I’m not one to repeat fragrances—I only have four base scents. If I recommend it for night or daily wear, it’s not cloying, a solid 7.
Hugo Boss Dark Blue is a spicy oriental with a 90s vibe. The opening is a fresh citrus that lasts only a moment, followed by spices and aromatic woods: cypress, cedar, cedarwood… all with patchouli and a touch of vanilla sweetness. It transitions from fresh citrus to spice and wood, evoking a warm forest. I like it, but it’s not modern. Good longevity and sillage; in my case, 6 hours with projection reaching the arm. I wear it to go out at night in mild climates, autumn, or spring—young, with a shirt, jeans, and a yellow vest at the collar, freshly shaved… very 90s. EDIT: Indeed, it launched in 1999. If you like the retro style, aromatic woods with incense, straight from the barbershop, and something that sounds ‘rich’: this is the one.
Strong and spicy citrus opening, like lime and ginger in water. After half an hour, cardamomo adds a gentle heat thanks to the geranium and cedar, giving it that spicy touch. The dry down is sweet wood with a lingering hint of lemon always present. A youthful fragrance with incredible longevity; it’s a hit for work on cold days. The best part? It’s become a classic, rarely worn nowadays, but it’s a star at duty-free worldwide for its price, available for as low as $19.99 at some airports.
Top-tier scent, with good projection and longevity, very high quality. Worth buying blindly: yes, 8/10. Delicious, earns compliments, and works for day or night. Apply generously for better performance.
Very good scent, with solid projection and longevity, excellent quality. Worth buying blindly: yes, 8/10. It’s delicious, earns compliments, and versatile for any occasion or time of day. Apply generously to maximize performance.
Delicious! Another great Hugo Boss that doesn’t disappoint. It has a sweet and spicy side, mysterious and nocturnal, ideal for cold weather or autumn; I don’t see it working in summer.
Pleasant and ideal for wearing with your partner since the projection is soft yet very masculine and sexy. At first, I wasn’t captivated by the scent and barely wore it for two years until I finally grew to like it; now it’s one of my favorites. It can be worn daily, preferably at night, without being overwhelming. It’s a vanilla-citrus blend that’s elegant, and you can currently find it at a great price at duty-free shops. One of my favorite Hugo Boss scents.
This is the perfume my girlfriend loves the most—a true gem. With just a few sprays, it fills the entire room. It’s versatile, fresh, and sexy without being annoying, and considering its price, its quality is unbeatable.
Strong and undefined scent: I bought this in 2016, and it’s peculiar—a mix of wood, sweet, spicy, warm, incense, and talc that doesn’t blend well. The opening is a sweet citrus with spicy ginger, but it doesn’t feel fresh; instead, it’s intense and spicy. Soon after, sage, geranium, and wood join in. At 30 minutes, a subtle vanilla and patchouli appear, while wood and geranium dominate with intense longevity that dries down to a strong talcy note. It smells very masculine; although I don’t like the lack of definition, its intensity gives it confidence, it projects well, and the fixative is solid. It’s more of a nighttime scent, but it works during the day at the office with a bit more brightness, passing as casual without issues. Suitable for various seasons, but better in non-humid environments (28°C or less). I think it suits people 30 and up; opinions vary: some say it smells good without being overwhelming, while others detect an open Coca-Cola note they didn’t like. Affordable price at specialty stores and airports; I grabbed it duty-free out of necessity in a hot place, and it performed well with intense projection. Ultimately, I didn’t love it, but I finished the bottle. I wouldn’t recommend buying it blindly, but if you enjoy intense, spicy scents, it could work well for you with a good price-to-quality ratio. It’s not quite like Boss Selection: this one is more fruity and citrusy. They share geranium and woods (much more intense here) and that powdery touch, so they have some common ground, but they’re more different than alike. Recommended sprays: 5 to 7. Longevity: 8. Sillage: Medium. Intensity: Medium to High.
It seems like a different fragrance: the vanilla, benzoin, and patchouli base becomes dominant in minutes, a lot, and it smells like Rochas Moustache. Don’t believe me? Search on Google.
Highly recommended.
To me, the entire Hugo Boss line smells like vinegar, but according to them, it’s citrus. Those last even less, like the CK ones.
It doesn’t smell bad, it smells horrible at the same time to everything and nothing. The last reformulation was the worst. I wouldn’t recommend it, even if gifted. Their notes aren’t defined. I like Hugo Boss’s line, but they no longer say anything. They should lower the price of many perfumes that have little longevity and sillage, even those from perfumeries.
They gave it to me as a gift and I liked it; it’s very fresh. It’s a pity it doesn’t last and the sillage is arm’s length. I’ve tried several Hugo Boss fragrances, and they don’t last long and are expensive.
Performance has dropped, but it’s still a good scent. It’s a shame it’s not even half of what it was at the start. For me, it’s one of Hugo Boss’s best, although the Infinite smells spectacular.
It’s versatile, but I only like the opening; most people think it’s bad, and I get it—it’s not youthful, it feels boring. I wouldn’t recommend it. Longevity is mediocre, and after a while, it smells weird and not great. There are better options for a bit more money, so I’d rather save.
Overrated and with poor longevity, maybe just an hour. The atomizer works well, but you have to spray it several times to leave a scent. It’s weak.
No one likes it. It’s noticeable from a mile away, zero compliments, more the opposite. People told me it smells like nougat.
I love the opening—it smells like tonic—but it fades in a flash. Girls aged 20 to 30 seem to like it, but they only come close to smell or hug me within the first two hours.
It’s not a perfume that I particularly enjoy. Its longevity is extremely poor (after 40 minutes, you barely smell anything of the scent), and its smell is one of the most generic you can smell in life. Honestly, I think the Ben 10 perfume sold at the dollar store ends up being a bit more pleasant than this.
Good dry down…
Short longevity and you expect more from this BOSS, but right when it seems to please, it disappears.
Smells very good… the citrus opening isn’t juicy, refreshing, or sharp; rather, it smells like lemon peel. Then, some very soft woods and a very subtle sweet touch come in. It’s a versatile and very weak fragrance (maximum 2 hours on my skin) with very low projection. I don’t recommend it due to its poor performance… this brand is very disappointing since most of their fragrances have mediocre performance.
As for me, it’s not a fragrance that drives the masses crazy; it’s fulfilling, nothing more, nor less. You won’t stand out from the crowd, but you won’t smell bad either… A somewhat “vintage” aroma, as it has been on the market for at least 25 years. Its price is accessible; if you apply it with genuine joy, you can make it last beyond 6 hours, but don’t expect too much. That Hugo Boss range isn’t characterized by being particularly standout; quite synthetic, I repeat, pleasant but without much to highlight.
A versatile fragrance for daytime. When I put it on, the opening notes smell very much like Coca-Cola, but after that, I like its citrus notes and its versatility.
Hugo Dark Blue by Hugo Boss. A standard fragrance, with no harshness. You can smell the ginger and citrus notes upon application, but they quickly give way to woody and earthy notes. It has weak longevity and moderate sillage. I was disappointed by the duration, which doesn’t exceed 2 hours. It was a blind buy because I was at the airport, in a rush, there were no testers, and the price was tempting. It’s fulfilling, nothing more. Recommended for some informal outings, at night, and in mild weather. Rating: 6/10.
A rich perfume, nothing more. The opening is citrusy but after a few seconds, it shifts to a spicier aroma; personally, I detect quite a bit of cardamomo. It’s a fulfilling fragrance, though it lacks great projection, but the longevity is decent (5-6 hours). While it’s quite versatile with the weather, I don’t recommend it for intense heat days. Also, I feel it’s a very youthful/teenage scent.
Just picked up this fragrance, and besides the scent, it holds sentimental value as it was the first perfume my family ever gave me. It’s a trip back to the past, to a time when I knew nothing about the world of fragrances. The opening is intense and vibrant, with notes of ginger, grapefruit, and lime that give an unmistakably spiced freshness. Then, cardamom and vanilla add a warm, sophisticated twist, while cedar in the base keeps its woody structure. When I wear it on my skin, it reminds me of Hugo Boss Now, though that one is more aquatic and aromatic, as well as Paco Rabanne Pure XS, with its spiced and enveloping profile. Undoubtedly, Hugo Dark Blue is a youthful, versatile fragrance easy to wear in almost any occasion. I bought it to have it back in my collection and add more fresh, vibrant options. If you’re looking for a nostalgic perfume with personality, this is an excellent choice. My final rating is 7.6/10.
A perfume with a vintage vibe that smells good but doesn’t stand out in any particular way, and in my case, the longevity is less than 2 hours. It starts like lemon peel and ginger, but I practically can’t recognize much more because it fades like paper on a rainy day, and by the hour, I don’t appreciate it so much because it stays so close to the skin.
At first, it has citrus notes that are then heavily overshadowed by ginger; curiously, the opening reminds me of Coca-Cola. As it evolves, it becomes woody, mainly due to cypress, a sweet wood perhaps from cardamom and vanilla. It’s a pleasant, very versatile aroma that neither offends nor fascinates, it’s just fine. The performance is moderate, leaning low; it lacks power.
Vintage, classic, and timeless; the scent takes me back to the past. It has a very fresh and vibrant citrus opening that grabs attention, then feels woody as it dries, with herbal touches. Longevity and projection are moderate; it’s a fragrance for everyday life, without big pretensions.
I had it, but I wouldn’t buy it again. It didn’t meet my expectations: a fragrance without glory, nothing new for the nose. The only redeeming factor is that I got it for a low price. Greetings and blessings from Panama.
I used it back in 2008 and got compliments from my college classmates. It’s quite versatile and has good longevity. I don’t know how the new batches will feel, but I think in 2025 it wouldn’t be a bad idea, since it’s a vintage fragrance and you’re sure not to smell like everyone else with their Invictus-inspired or sweet unisex scents that smell like an aunt 😅.
Very good: the 3 Bs, beautiful, good, and cheap. It lasts its 5-6 hours on skin; I use it preferably at night… elegant and with a touch of class.
The typical free shop perfume with huge discounts, a vintage aroma that seems stuck in time. In my experience, there are many better options. Its performance is terrible: the longevity is non-existent and I never received compliments. It’s no surprise it’s almost always on sale.
It’s versatile: works for night and day, spring and summer. It’s a quality vintage style for people 30 and up, the scent of a serious middle-aged person. Notes of grapefruit, cypress, and cedar. On skin, it lasts about 4 hours with a trail of half an hour, maybe up to an hour; the longevity is very low even if you apply a lot. If you want to make a gift, it’s fine given the price.
Good perfume, always on sale at free shops because nobody buys it unless it’s discounted. The scent is quite nice, a bit vintage; it reminds me a lot of Bleu de Chanel, but sweeter, probably due to the vanilla, with a herbal touch. Its biggest weakness is longevity: on my skin, even applied generously, it lasts about 2 to 3 hours before disappearing. When dry, it smells like Fruit Loops cereal. I think it’s youthful, for ages 15 to 30, even though it’s an old fragrance. The scent holds up well over the years.
It’s that typical free shop perfume, definitely vintage, though it adapts well to today. It’s rich, a great summer scent that stands out: wood, citrus fruits, and a very present vanilla. The downside? It doesn’t last at all and has zero projection; you’ll only smell it on your skin, so forget about people complimenting you. For under $25, I wouldn’t buy it.
Love it: At first, the citrus blast hits you hard and takes you by surprise, but then it settles into a subtle citrus base. As it dries down, the vanilla arrives not to scare you, but to kiss you passionately—that was the best part. I really like it; would I recommend it? Yes. For everyone? No, if you’re allergic to citrus or find vanilla cloying (it doesn’t bother me), test it in-store first. Happy!
