Descripción
Tom Ford Fougère Platine is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2018, this composition was created by Olivier Gillotin and Linda Song. The top notes unfold with clary sage, lavender, bergamot, and basil; the heart reveals hyssop, frankincense, honey, and Spanish labdanum; while the base notes settle on tobacco, woods, and cedar.

It seems very interesting, without being anything extraordinary. Why? On the opening it reminds me of a ‘Vert D’Encens’ that’s earthier, darker, less sweet (less Christmassy). It quickly loses that reference and turns into a ‘Patchouli Absolu’, but with a very peculiar variant. As if it were a flanker of Patchouli Absolu. It has a VERY herbal touch. Has anyone heard of Memoir Man by Amouage? That wormwood/garlic note here is in this perfume. No, I’m not crazy. It’s not mentioned in the ingredients but the smell is THE SAME. Smell both perfumes (this one and Memoir) and tell me otherwise, I’ll accept any criticism if I’m lying. Redundant if you already have ‘PA’. Fougére Platine I like and I give it a 7. It’s a good dry-down scent, very interesting, but nothing more. I wouldn’t buy it again.
I’m basing my opinion solely on my buddy’s review below. Okay, I decided to buy it blind because I found it at a great price from a friend who had a nearly full bottle. I was intrigued because I’m not used to fougères, even though they’re historical classics. It smells fresh and citrusy at first, with a metallic freshness I assume is the rosemary and lavender, though I can’t quite pinpoint the scent, I know they’re there. It has citrus notes from the bergamot and a sweet vibe as it dries down that must be the honey. Sometimes it smells like incense (you have to concentrate) which might be the frankincense, and the woody notes with cedar combined with what I think is tobacco… I either don’t smell the tobacco or confuse it with another note, I don’t know 🙁 The opening is very explosive and metallic fresh (referencing the only marketing image I saw, well thought out there by TF), but then it fades a lot in performance, staying very skin-scented with sweet and incense notes while the rosemary/lavander freshness dies out, mixing green notes and that unidentified tobacco with woods. WARNING, after several outings I noticed it doesn’t last long on the skin, stays very close to the skin, and practically disappears when you sweat, watch out when buying. That said, it smells great, it’s a scent that might remind you of old barbershop cologne but Tom Ford gives it a modern and elegant touch. Personally I like it but I wish it lasted better. I recommend it for elegant events and nights, or romantic dates with more intimacy, BUT despite that, it works in any situation, it’s not invasive, it would be great at a bar with friends, a club, whatever the occasion. Would I buy it again? Yes, but only if I find it at a price like the 50ml mini I got, they say they’re discontinuing it, so it’ll become a Tom Ford legacy in my collection.
I never understand Tom Ford’s obsession with dropping their best pieces. This is one of the finest fougères in my collection and exactly what I love most. If it weren’t for the price, I wouldn’t have a single complaint; it’s a 10/10.
