  • Very casual, unique, and versatile. It has a rich floral-citrus-soapy scent with excellent longevity. It’s a very personal scent, and people love it when they smell it. I had it years ago and bought it again out of nostalgia. Simply marvelous, honestly.

  • Morder doll

Very refreshing, youthful, and versatile. It smells like flowers and fresh grass, making me think of the color green. It’s not heavy or intrusive; very pleasant for the wearer and for others. On my skin, it lasts 4 to 5 hours with moderate sillage, and on clothes, it lasts days. I think it’s unisex due to its freshness and versatility. The little bottle is divine. I imagine it on cheerful, fun, extroverted people who aren’t loud, but rather possess an austere yet very youthful and modern elegance.

This perfume brings back my childhood because my mom used to wear it; it’s impossible to describe—it’s literally the essence of Duende, it’s magical. It smells different on everyone and evokes different feelings. To know how it smells, don’t follow reviews; go and try it yourself. It’s quite affordable and original.

  • It’s incredible; after about 15 hours, it still smells like it was just applied. It smells like herbs, like fresh morning dew on the grass—it’s mind-blowing. I love it.

  • An elegant floral aroma. I don’t see it as particularly youthful, but its great longevity and sillage suit it perfectly.

  • I love it; it has nothing to do with the classic Duende. It’s much sweeter and more romantic. To me, it’s youthful—citrusy at first, then slightly fruity as it develops. I never tire of buying it; great price and perfume. Highly recommended. It’s timeless; works well for both young people and adults, depending on skin pH.

  • maiacernadas

It’s fresh and not annoying, but I wouldn’t buy it again. I tried it because I swapped out a gift I received that wasn’t worth it. Its sillage and longevity are quite weak.

  • Manuela Monteiro

I used to wear this at university. I absolutely love it; it reminds me of summer afternoons studying, drinking mate with friends. Clean, citrusy, and floral scent. It lasts forever on my skin. The price-to-quality ratio is top-notch.

  • Faerie Essence was enchanting. I miss these clean compositions full of notes and chords so much. It smelled like pure glory; it made you think of a swim in a shady river on a summer day, a floral with ‘effervescent’ nuances from the clash of hyacinth, bergamot, and coriander, refreshing and subtly spicy, a lovely blend of spices and flowers with an aquatic/woody/musky tone that transported you to imagine a pond inhabited by naiads—mythological but mortal beings with human appearance, more serene and ‘elegant’ than the fantasies of Lempicka or other brands. It was pure bottled innocence, plus it had a strange dry-down, heir to the green, moldy waters of other eras, making it a candidate for unisex. Light years away from today’s perfumes for ‘young girls’. Twenty years ago, teenagers smelled this good. In the style of Tommy Girl and Hugo Woman.

  • I have over 70 perfumes in my collection. If I had to choose one for spring/summer, for daily use, it would definitely be this one. It instantly puts you in a good mood. Delicious and long-lasting.

  • A gift from my father, who used to say every time he wore it that it smelled like a jasmine. It’s fresh, feminine, and delicate. Youthful, it lives up to the name, and it makes me think of faeries or rather fairies. Ideal for daytime and has good longevity. I wouldn’t buy it again because I have a different style now, but it’s still a charming perfume.

  • Another one of my favorites that’s also discontinued… And I realize it’s by Alberto Morillas, just like the other one I adore, Loewe’s Esencia Femme… I’m going to look for more of his creations; they’re sure to be my style… I hope they aren’t discontinued too, because to me, they have so much personality and are different from the rest. I love them, 🥰🥰🥰🥰

For me, this perfume is about good luck. The first time I used it, I was in a rush for an interview and forgot my perfume in my bag, so I used a mini version instead. The interview went great, and I got the job. Over time, I bought the full bottle and wore it whenever I needed luck. What a pity they delisted it.

  • Mony Queen

I’m looking for the Faerie Essence perfume like crazy. (The fae alone doesn’t appeal to me). I searched for something similar; it was my signature scent. Nothing else compares to it. I’ve tried several and nothing works. I feel robbed since they discontinued it. I’m desperate for a scent that feels like mine. If anyone knows the formula or a dupe, I’ll buy it. PLEASE HELP!! 😭 Sincerely, the woman without a scent.

  • La boricua

It’s beautiful in every sense. Soft and long-lasting. What a pity it’s no longer available in Puerto Rico; I still have a little bit of that magical, mischievous perfume left, like a fae. Fae essence.

  • Great name for such an aroma. I can’t find the words; it’s like a fae essence. You don’t know what it is until it catches you. Bergamota takes the lead, with hyacinth, lily, and the ever-present sandalwood. Every time I wore it, it didn’t just last hours—the clothes stayed perfumed in a sexy way, and everyone commented on it. I loved it, enjoyed it, and I miss it.

  • Its citrus and floral notes are out of this world. I don’t get why they discontinued it; it smells delicious, rich, and I love it. It revitalizes me, it’s fresh and super versatile. Totally unique.

  • I don’t know why they took it off the shelves. My mother absolutely loved it. It was soft, unique, a green floral just as the box says—very delicate and special.

  • I tried Duende in 1992 when it launched (it was impossible not to, with such a beautiful name and bottle) and it didn’t excite me. That’s why when Essence of Duende came out, I wasn’t interested; I thought it would be a concentrated version of the other. Years passed until I found it one day, carelessly lying on an old roommate’s bed. Oh!, I thought, so that’s what it was! I always thought she smelled incredible when we went out at night; she only wore perfume on those occasions. I don’t know why I never asked what she used. But it wasn’t necessary: there it was, the little bottle I suppose she kept in some drawer. At first glance, I would never have associated that scent with Duende; they were too different. Essence of Duende didn’t have the mimosa that stood out in Duende and was much more complex: more citrus at the start (without the melon of Duende), followed by more flowers than its sibling, sweetened with woods and resins. It also had a slightly aquatic touch. It was very fresh and smelled clean, just like my roommate liked: everything smelling clean. Good heavens, how many times I ran the laundry. Although she only wore it recreatively at night, where Essence of Duende performed well thanks to the sweetness of its flowers, it was a fragrance that could be worn at any time of day or year. Very pleasant. The last time we met at the bars, she still smelled of Essence of Duende, which must be so hard to find these days!

This is the perfume I wore in college, and many classmates and friends still remember it; even when I visited some relatives’ house, one of them knew I was there before seeing me, just by the scent. I always received tons of compliments and still don’t understand why they discontinued it. I think no other fragrance has made me feel more identified with it. It’s a very fresh, clean, feminine, green, woody, and quite elegant aroma; it’s perfect for a night out. The longevity is extraordinary; on my skin, it lasted more than 6 hours in both winter and summer. I’d give anything for a bottle or at least something similar.

  • This was one of the perfumes I wore at the end of my teens and into my early twenties. It was a gift from my dad, who said I was a grown woman now and needed to stop hanging out in trees and act like it (to his disdain, aside from making me ‘the perfume crazy,’ I don’t think I followed his advice much). I used it every day until the bottle ran out, which had that terrible, impractical cap. I ran into it again at a flea market, so I bought a mini to remember how it smells. It’s a pleasant, feminine, fresh, and clean summer fragrance; the strongest notes on my skin are tangerine peel, grapefruit, and lotus flower. It lingers on the skin, so it’s harmless for the office. Nothing innovative, but I like it anyway (maybe just nostalgia). Pleasant: 7/10, Interesting: 4/10, Versatile: 5/10, Original: 3/10.

  • Found a perfume that immediately reminded me of this one: Versace Dylan Turquoise. It’s extremely similar.

Hello, I’ve been reading reviews here for a while. Essence of Elf has been my favorite perfume for over 10 years, and I suffered when it was discontinued, but I found a very similar and cheap alternative. I’ve been using it for a long time; if anyone is interested, write me on WhatsApp at +56 9 9133 9364. Greetings from Chile.

  • Yenvillasmil

My beloved Essence of Elf. I stumbled upon it by accident because I was looking to buy something else, and the seller offered it to me; I bought it and fell in love forever. To my nose, it’s a mysterious green floral. My surprise was discovering later that it was discontinued. It lasts an eternity on clothes and skin, even though it’s an EDT; it transports me to a forest with hyacinths and lilies clinging to the tree trunks. It’s a much-loved perfume that I use sparingly so it lasts for years. Undoubtedly, it captivated me. I wouldn’t recommend it because it’s discontinued and the prices are insane, but it is definitely worth it.

  • What a beautiful perfume. A poetic name, a charming bottle and box. Its essence evokes natural beauty, nothing forced. It smells like a damp green forest, but without mud—rather like crystal dewdrops reflecting the sun among tall pines and trees. If I find it again, it will be mine once more; I won’t let this elusive sprite go (even though it’s discontinued).

  • A precious, magical fragrance that you never forget; the one that earns me the most compliments. It was a birthday gift from a friend, a total hit, and I wore it from then on until it was sadly discontinued. While I had it, I tried many scents, but I always came back to Essence of Duende. Now I’m searching for any lost bottles or hoping they might dare to reformulate it. It lasted forever without being overwhelming, perfect for both winter and summer. Without a doubt, my favorite of all time.

  • VainillaDulce

Wow! So fresh and cool, smelling it again felt like a hug to old memories. I always knew it smelled great, but I lost track of how charming it really was. Essence of Duende is that fragrance that walks the blurry line between genders; it’s not fully masculine or feminine, and even though it’s marketed for women, a guy wears it beautifully. I love how the citrus, florals, woods, and that green touch blend with bright notes, leaving me feeling fresh, energetic, and joyful, as if radiating light. At first, the orange, bergamot, and grapefruit take the lead, but then the hyacinth takes over, accompanied by lotus, valley lily, a hint of rose, and jasmine, all supported by powerful cedar and vetiver. You’ve got Alberto Morillas’ signature tattooed on your soul—that unmistakable DNA of his creations. I miss its brightness and how it made me feel. On my skin, it lasts about 6 hours with moderate to soft sillage.

  • Magical, ethereal… just like its name and bottle. There’s nothing like this perfume. It’s the most unique thing I’ve ever encountered. I can’t identify any of the notes listed above; it’s just Essence of the Elf, period—I think even if you combined all those notes in one perfume, you wouldn’t get the same fragrance—it has something herbal, fruity, woody, warm and fresh at the same time. I don’t think it’s a youthful scent; it has too much presence, but in a good way; it stands out without being annoying or heavy, it stands out for its originality and beauty. You become a Forest Fairy. I still have some of the last one I bought and I treat it like a treasure because it is. I don’t know what I’ll do when it runs out… it gives me nostalgia… One of my all-time favorites. Unique.

  • I wanted to save my 100-point review on Fragrantica for this perfume that was part of my adolescence and that I loved so much that it hurt to know it was discontinued. Essence of the Elf, with its magical shape and fresh, citrusy opening, carried a lasting scent on the skin with a great trail that didn’t get tiring; a well-formulated perfume with notes that didn’t overpower each other to be the most prominent, all in harmony. It’s hard to find citrus perfumes today where the citrus touch doesn’t stick to your nose for a few minutes and prevent you from perceiving other aromas. Essence of the Elf didn’t do that; it was like walking through fresh grass bathed in a citrus and sweet floral aroma. It could be worn any time of day or year and you’d look good; it wasn’t intrusive or overly delicate, but tasteful. Today, when I’m wearing Aqua di Giò, I can, very vaguely, make myself remember it, but I know that going to my collection would convince me it’s far from being this great perfume (but I won’t because I’m using it up, haha). Fortunately, I still have a little of my last surviving bottle before I knew it was discontinued, and a few months ago I got another one I found surprisingly in a perfume group. Essence of the Elf, how much we miss you…

  • Silviavivi

The little bottle, the name… everything made me think of a magical fragrance, but unfortunately, the chemistry wasn’t right for me. Its dry down turned bitter on my skin. Was it the coriander? The lotus? No! Now that I read ‘coumarin’ among its ingredients, I realized it was that… tonka bean.

  • Coni Macarena Miel

I bought a dupe and unfortunately, since it’s discontinued, but I remember its scent very well because a friend’s mom had it and then my friend used it, so I remember it perfectly. The catalog says ‘Elf,’ but it’s Essence of the Elf due to the notes and because that was the one they had. In my case, coriander dominates the opening, which made me not want to wear it in summer, but now in full autumn it’s wonderful because it lasts a long time and I detect it more 😍. It’s not just a simple fresh scent, so you have to be careful, but for that reason, it’s perfect for autumn. It’s truly magical. It’s a shame that all the fragrances I find perfect, like my beloved Gloria or BLV, are discontinued; they’re no longer making scents as beautiful as those 💖

  • Ufff, what can you say about this jewel of perfumery? Elegant, aquatic, citrusy, sophisticated. It was my signature fragrance for many years; unfortunately (I’d like to know why) they’ve discontinued it. The trail and longevity were magnificent; I still have one from 12 years ago, though you won’t believe it. It’s painful to use, but even though the top notes have deteriorated, the heart and base notes remain intact. A fragrance from another dimension, no doubt, transporting you to a Victorian garden full of fresh flowers surrounded by lakes. If you like this, the closest thing I found (but not equal, unfortunately) was Bulgari’s Omnia Cristal, but the longevity and trail still don’t compare. Anyway, nostalgia.

  • Marcecandu

The most wonderful fragrance I ever had. I bought it by chance, rummaging through deals to gift myself for Mother’s Day back in 2001/2002. I bought the small bottle blindly. When I tested it, I couldn’t believe the fixative power, the trail, and the longevity. Of course, I repurchased it in larger sizes several times. For me, it was the perfect perfume: fine, powerful, yet subtle, a delight that I wish I had bought in greater quantity. I’m sorry it’s no longer available. I hope they relaunch it.

Where are the aquatic and watermelon/melon fruit notes? 💦🍉🙋♀️ That said, Essence of the Elf is super different from just ‘Elf’ (many confuse them and they have nothing to do with each other). It’s like receiving bursts of humid air in a green, wild place with nearby lakes. That lagoon water with flowers and aquatic plants, nothing stagnant or algae-filled. It’s fresh and lasts hours, releasing bursts; if you sweat, more; if you shower with hot water, even more! It has personality, it’s an artist, free, doesn’t want to get tangled up, and skips the extravagances because it doesn’t need them. It’s unique, original, with its own identity, damn it, like perfumes should be, like in the 80s and 90s, not like now where they’re just clones. It has a characteristic note like Luna Water, but the perfume itself isn’t very similar. I don’t feel the stinging citrus it should have, but rather the fresh green, the scent of stems, and the skin of a ripe fruit that isn’t petit grain but is close. It smells like fallen leaves on wet earth, like a forest, and yet doesn’t smell like anything concrete in an obvious way. It’s an enigma, a veil that hints at impossible silhouettes, whispers, laughter, a breeze between willows and pines, but nothing obvious—that’s the best part. But its trail isn’t powerful, honestly; I don’t understand the mega-trail ratings. Let’s see if after all these years my perfume has changed or if I was just too young to have it when it launched. I remember the ad, I was delighted, it was very me: fairies, elves, and green, witchy but introverted and elegant creatures. I’m obsessed with it as my daytime signature, but I’m not sure about its projection. I love it, I love its whole delicate and strange aura.

  • Another masterpiece by Alberto Morillas. Fresh and clean for everyday wear, but not that typical citrus that fades quickly. It has green notes, aquatic ones like spring rain or forest dew, with soft florals, refreshing citrus, and base woods that, with humidity, reveal a slight mossiness. A precious harmony that brought well-being and lasted hours despite being an EDT. Literally, I felt like a fairy in a magical forest, light as a feather, in a dream, with that sensation of walking through the mist in a forest that wasn’t too cold. Maybe it sounds exaggerated, but for scent lovers, it’s because they transport us, excite us, and recall real experiences. With Essence of the Elf, that’s exactly what happened; now that it’s gone, I haven’t felt that sensation since.

  • ReinaBatatta

Even though Essence of the Elf isn’t sold anymore, in Argentina we have Prune II, which is the same. I adore it: fresh, citrusy, herbal, and lasts for hours. Elegant and minimalist, perfect for spring and summer, whether for the office or just relaxing.

  • Ivanna Nur Santis Riquelm

It was my first perfume and what a luxury. Exquisite, fresh, and soft, yet with incredible longevity. What a shame it’s discontinued; I can’t find it anywhere. It smells very similar to Bulgari’s Omnia Crystalline, but honestly, it doesn’t surpass Essence of the Elf 🥺
