I’ve never tried this fragrance, but it caught my attention because it features several notes from the fictional perfume ‘Love and Psyche’ from Patrick Süskind’s novel, adapted into the movie ‘Perfume’. I know Thierry Mugler released an exclusive limited box with 15 scents inspired by that book (rumored not all of them were pleasant), including an interpretation of ‘Love and Psyche’ that I would have loved to try. Anyway, based on its components, Enslaved could be an interesting, opulent, and baroque-inspired perfume; it would be fantastic to test it out.
I bought it blind when it first arrived because it has almost all the notes from Patrick Süskind’s novel, adapted into the movie ‘Perfume’. I’ve read the book so many times I knew every minute of the film, and now I’m also enjoying the Netflix series inspired by it. The million-dollar question: do I like it? I don’t like it, I love it. Its scent is exactly what I imagined: captivating and enveloping, with great presence and a projection that screams femme fatale. My first impressions were a powerful bomb of lavender and geranium that turned powdery in seconds, revealing a bouquet of flowers and patchouli always wrapped in that accord. It smells refined and luxurious. I love it, especially since I wear it as it’s meant to be worn, so I’m updating my opinion.
At first, it smells like a classic from the old days, something that might not be in style anymore, but the quality of its ingredients saves it. It starts with a fresh burst of lavender, bergamot, and geranium, which then gives way to a powdery floral heart. To my nose, the cardamom, ylang-ylang, and geranium stand out, all tied together by the creaminess of white flowers that soften the blend. The dry down is slightly sweet, with a very elegant amber-oud that, over time, seems to wrap around the skin delicately.
