Although it features rose what really shines is the myrrh sharing that essence with YSL’s Opium. It reminds me of Youth Dew and Rochas’s Femme but with fewer notes and a touch that’s more modern and elegant than the original without that aggressive spicy opening. It’s a linear perfume that dries down to a fine musk a refined blend of its ingredients. It’s the delicious dry-down of Opium: a floral amber myrrh where the patchouli is just right not overdone. It has good quality longevity and sillage. Amouage costs $350 while Opium EDT and EDP are $140 and sometimes on sale. Ideally look for Amouage at discount sites like Jomashop Maxaroma or Fragrancenet where you can get it for around $170 which is worth it. For me buying a perfume that smells just like another one isn’t a good choice.

I tried it with a sample sent to me and it smells identical to YSL’s Opium EDT; if it weren’t identical it would be very similar. I’d say the original Opium is more potent so it’s definitely worth seeking out the cheaper option. With Amouage if you decide to buy you’ll be in debt for quite some time plus the packaging isn’t the best for collecting. It’s something you really need to think about carefully.

I tried it with a sample sent to me and it smells exactly like Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium EDT or very close to it. Although I’d say Opium is more potent so if possible definitely go for the cheaper version. With Amouage if you want to buy it you’ll be in debt for a long time and the presentation isn’t ideal for collecting so you really have to think it over.
