The first time I used it, it seemed like a very strange smell; the opening reminded me of an auntie’s perfume. I let it settle and used it again on a cold day, and that’s when it actually seemed rich, very vanilla and spicy. I don’t know if it resembles PDM’s Layton because I’ve never smelled it, but it’s a good fragrance for cold days.
It fills the room, the best Layton dupe, an excellent perfume that lasts a long time and isn’t invasive.
This is the third time I’ve tested this fragrance on my skin (third visit to the same store). I didn’t opine before, but today I feel prepared: with such pleasant top notes, the opening even displeased me; I expected something more ‘easy’ and ‘commercial’. I don’t know about other environments, but where I am, in the shade at 35ºC, I had to walk 300 meters, and out of the four fragrances I tested, this was the only one that almost completely disappeared by the time I got home. Its performance on my skin is very poor. Personally, it didn’t convince me.
Bought for 22€. Exquisite. An incredible fragrance that any designer brand would bottle and charge triple. It projects powerfully, fresh and minty; when dry, it turns sweet and powdery. It met my high expectations. If you want it, it’s like an Ultramale flanker from JPG, though it also reminds me of Mugler’s Angel. Ideal for dates, the club, or dressing up: it’s versatile. Is it synthetic? Yes, but several people found it delicious. Only trained noses can tell the difference; the scent is magnificent. Totally recommended.
A very good cheap version of Layton… But nothing more.
Really synthetic…
It’s true the scent is similar, but the quality difference is huge, like between market ham and five-star ham. Personally, it doesn’t convince me as a substitute. The spray is mind-blowingly good.
I don’t know what Layton smells like, but I had the ‘opportunity’ to sniff the cap and it’s not pleasant as people say. It smells like Haramain Intense (an Aventus dupe) but more floral and sweet. I wouldn’t buy it because I wouldn’t wear it.
I was genuinely disgusted when I first opened it. I tried it again three weeks later and absolutely loved it: elegant and appetizing. Curiously, I hated the first contact. Let it settle.
Comparing it to Layton is unfair. I was looking for a daily wear version, but it didn’t hook me. It doesn’t smell bad when dry, but it’s a rare synthetic sweetness that I have to hold right up to my nose to even notice.
Incredible; I thought it would smell bad based on comments about it smelling synthetic, and honestly, yes, it does smell more synthetic than Layton obviously, but it has a very similar aroma, with the same mint or menthol note as Layton. Maybe in Layton the apple note feels stronger than here, but if it’s 85% similar, I’d say so. If you’re a Layton fan, you’ll like this; I’m not saying I’d replace it, but maybe I’d keep Layton for special occasions and use this, being cheaper, for casual moments.
I loved it, very satisfied with one of my best purchases under $30.
I hate this perfume, or rather, the Layton DNA in general. Don’t buy blind; be careful because it’s polarizing; you either love it or hate it.
I went to El Corte Inglés and smelled Layton for the first time, and it smells IDENTICAL.
There is a huge difference between smelling like Layton and smelling similar to Layton. 3/10.
I’ve been using Detour Noir for two days and I like it; it gives me the same vibe and the same pleasure as Layton (I have the 2019 batch). I applied them to each hand, and up close, Layton is much more powerful, with more depth and density; you can feel the quality. As time passes (after 30 minutes), the scent becomes more similar, but if I keep smelling them up close, Layton still reflects more depth, surely due to ingredient quality. Overall, they smell very similar; I’m not regretting the purchase, I really liked it. You can use Detour Noir for daily wear and keep Layton for weekends. As for longevity, Layton takes the lead; I’d say Detour Noir works better in warm climates where Layton might get cloying. Ignore those who call it a chemical bomb; it’s a pleasant and wearable perfume. If it’s perceived as Layton with minor flaws, I’d buy it again. I have 155 bottles and have tried many dupes; this is a good one (rating 8.5 – 9). Much better than Aventus vs. CDNI (rating 6.5 – 7).
Something rich, exquisite, and delicious. When I started into perfumery, I bought a Dior Sauvage clone (Armaf Ventana) because it was versatile and safe, but the same day they showed me this gem, and I regretted my purchase. On my skin, it lasts around 12 hours with good projection, not beast mode, just the first 4 hours. Personally, it’s the richest perfume I’ve ever smelled, and since it’s great for cold weather, it has become my signature.
To be honest, I was surprised; I always thought Layton would be hard to imitate due to its notes and that unique opening. This time Al Haramain proved me wrong; this perfume smells incredible and, yes, it’s identical to Layton. The only difference is depth: Layton’s opening is super realistic and deep. This one might lack that depth at the start, but the dry-down is identical; there’s no way to tell them apart unless you have them side-by-side with a trained nose. I don’t understand the negative comments. I know there are synthetic and weird Arab perfumes, but this isn’t the case. It smells very good and high quality. I’ve read that for some it smelled off and improved after resting for a few months, like what happened to a friend. For me, it was good from the first spray. A 10, even for layering with the original Layton to make it last longer. Note, the perfume is as sweet as Layton, so some people might not like it, so if you haven’t smelled Layton, try it first. If you have, you’ll surely love it. Good longevity, 6-8 hours, projection about 2 hours, very well.
I have to say this is THE BEST LAYTON CLONE by Parfums de Marly by far… I bought it blind months ago without knowing how either smelled, but I did it because of the hype and positive reviews. I loved the scent from the start… I LOVE IT. The only downside is it didn’t last long on my skin, about 3 hours, and the projection wasn’t great despite the strong initial sillage. I give it the max because the value for money is unbeatable. Later I bought the original Layton, and the scent is 95-98% identical, which made me hesitate to buy the original since people claim differences in the opening and dry-down (I don’t notice them, they smell the same) and that the original lasts longer. That’s false… and I have to say it despite it costing me 200 euros. I don’t know if it’s olfactory fatigue or a new reformulation; it lasts the same or less than the Detour Noir, and the projection is identical. So, if you like Layton, don’t think twice, don’t buy the original, buy the Detour. Don’t get sold on the hype: in my case, smelling them on one hand then the other at different times, I notice zero difference. If people tell you otherwise, it’s because they own the original and need to justify the 200+ euro expense, or because they’re missing out on a deal. Someone will surely come out swinging against my claim in 3, 2, 1… and if I say the Detour lasts half an hour longer (only 3h) on skin. Buy this one instead; I wish I had tested it sooner, but for me, it’s too late. BY THE WAY, the DETOUR NOIR is 95-98% identical. And if you already have it, don’t get tempted like I did to buy the original because the disappointment is huge. Incredible work by Al Haramain. Scent: 9, Longevity: 6, Projection: 6, Price: 10. Overall: 7.75.
Bought the bottle and the aesthetics are a disaster; the glass feels cheap, but the liquid is another story. It’s a very good Layton clone, though to me it smells more like cinnamon, pepper, and vanilla. Layton has more complexity, but I haven’t tried Detour Noir on skin yet because people say it needs to mature. Will update soon.
I bought Al Haramain’s Detour Noir before Layton to get an idea of the original, and when I used it, I thought what a bad clone it must be. The sad part is that when I tried the original Layton, it does smell similar, and a lot, even in the opening. Both have good dry-down, obviously Layton’s is better, lasting 8 hours on skin. In summary, I don’t like that Layton DNA, but if you like it, go for this clone. Both have a terrible initial scent throw.
Synthetic? Yes. Does it smell like Layton? Yes. Do I recommend it? Yes. This is a beast for the price; you can’t ask for more.
This perfume is exquisite; at first, it hits you with a cloying synthetic sweetness. But if you let it macerate, it turns into a tremendous gem. It’s not for blind buying, but if you have the chance to try it or already smell PDM’s Layton, you’ll definitely like it a lot. The opening is mentholated with dominant lavender, fresh and slightly sweet, not sharp or heavy, gradually disappearing to leave light vanilla, fresh-mentholated, and soft warm woods. I’ve tried it cold and it’s a beauty; so far, it doesn’t give me olfactory fatigue, and with the wind, you can notice that vanilla aroma with soft woods and a hint of fresh mint. Maybe at first it seems like cream all of a sudden, but it’s very subtle; lavender takes the lead. If you like lavender, vanilla, or soft woods, this is your perfume. The similarity to Layton is huge, to say identical. Trained noses might find a difference, but most won’t. Only in warm woods might there be a slight difference, but unless you have both side by side, you won’t notice it. You will, however, notice the price difference: Layton costs almost 7 times more. Although its ingredients are of better quality, I don’t think it’s a good option to spend on Layton (obviously, if you have the resources, go ahead, it’s high quality), but if not, Detour Noir is a little gem that should be in your collection.
Someone said it’s very sweet; that’s a lie. It has a rough, synthetic opening, but before 10 minutes it loosens up and starts to reveal, to my taste, a spicy vanilla (pepper and geranium). For two hours it’s a warm spicy perfume; it’s not beast-mode projection, but it will be at its peak, very good. Then the spices fade that make the perfume potent, leaving just the vanilla, its sweetest point but not cloying at all, a warm vanilla. It’s not very deep, but you can notice the development. Scent: 8.5/10. Longevity: 10-12 hours. Projection: 7/10. Price: 10/10. Rating: 8/10 for a winter signature fragrance, quite wearable if you like warm spicy perfumes.
If this is the inspiration, the original must be an olfactory orgasm. 3 hours of protection and sillage (obviously decreasing, which is normal), with 7-8 hours of longevity. Batch 2024, no complaints whatsoever; it’s a fragrance that surprised me.
I tested PDM’s Layton at a store in the USA, and like this one, I didn’t like it at first: very strong and woody opening. But once it dried down, what a rich aroma—vanilla and warm spicy. It’s quite similar to Layton; I’d say 85-90%. Excellent quality/price, I totally recommend it for $25. Above all, it smells rich and cheap; I have other more expensive perfumes, and this beats them by far.
Probably one of the best (if not the best) price/quality/performance ratios available in perfumery right now. It even smells more masculine and ‘rough’ than other clones like Royal Bleu or North Stag Deux. Really, VERY good.
What an ugly bottle, but what a beautiful fragrance. Atomizer is 10/10, with moderate to strong longevity and projection. For the price, it’s a 10/10.
The opening is weird; it lasts less than a minute before drying down, but it smells rich. I don’t know the original Layton. It has good longevity and projection; at first, I thought it didn’t suit me and re-applied, until someone told me I was drenched in perfume (it always shows). I attribute that to olfactory fatigue. Perfect for spring, autumn, and winter.
A very well-executed clone of Layton, hitting 85-90% similarity. It keeps that warm, spicy essence but with a darker character. The opening is synthetic and floral, a bit rough and dry at first, less creamy, but once it dries down, the resemblance is obvious with those vanilla and woody notes that make it addictive. Lasts well, moderate sillage, and elegant without being overpowering. The funny thing is no one notices the difference from the original, making it a top alternative to save money, especially given the price. The bottle is ugly, but that goes away once you smell it. A masculine, versatile, and reliable fragrance, ideal for autumn/winter, dates, or cool nights where you want to project elegance without going too sweet. A hidden gem from Al Haramain. The best quality/price ratio in my collection. Rating: 8.5/10
There’s something that doesn’t quite add up in this perfume, not even in the drydown where it improves significantly, but it remains a ‘close, but no cigar’. It’s like it doesn’t quite feel ‘polished’. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it doesn’t convince me. Scent: 6. Projection: 5.5. Longevity: 6.5.
A decent fragrance. It’s not a bomb or beast mode, but it has something: it’s easy to like. It starts with a soft powdery citrus aroma. In the heart, I don’t know why it reminds me of Natura Homen Essense, only that this one is slightly more woody and sweet. I think it’s very versatile for daily use. For the price, 8/10.
I own and love Layton, and I’ve used this Detour Noir to avoid going through my bottle too quickly; it’s a great option, very similar to Layton. In its drydown (after 5 minutes), it resembles it a lot, and it’s impressive that, given its low price, it smells high quality and not synthetic. Longevity and projection are also good. Obviously, they aren’t 100% identical and Layton is unique, but I feel it gets close to 95%. I recommend it for Layton lovers.
What can I say? I love it; it’s a very legitimate dupe and a beast on skin (at least on mine). Longevity on skin is easily over 12 hours and on clothes it lasts for weeks. It was my first Arabic perfume; I had Layton on a blotter and this Detour Noir on another, and in the drydown it was impossible to distinguish them. Given its value, it doesn’t feel synthetic or low quality; it’s totally worth it.
The opening didn’t grab me, but the drydown smells great. Scent: at first, it smells like overripe apple, luckily only for 5 minutes; then it becomes more pleasant, masculine, and mature. Longevity: I estimate 7-8 hours and it’s quite oily as expected from an EDP. Sillage: projects well for about 1.5 hours, then becomes more moderate.
There’s a lack of a genuine female review, and more than that, an honest one. I know tastes are subjective, but even though it’s inspired by something expensive, it smells terrible. I hated it. My husband wanted something different, and I told him: if you like fresh scents, this isn’t it. It’s too powdery, smells vintage but in a bad way. My husband had the Safari, and although it’s not my type, I see its good side: vintage but sophisticated. Here, I didn’t see anything good; the drydown didn’t hold up either; it smells dirty, damp, awful… That’s where my gift ended up, all because I let him choose (joke, but I wanted to try something new 🤷🏻♀️). Oh, and it’s too expensive for how bad it is, jeez, ugly lol I hate it! Hahaha
Smells good for the price, but it fades quickly. I still have half a bottle left. Also, the cap is the worst invention by a manufacturer.
Honestly, I’m reviewing this fragrance I just bought and use at work. I like it, but it’s not my absolute favorite yet; I’m hoping it grows on me. I tested it on blotter and skin a month ago: it smells incredible, though I’ve smelled better things. Many people hype it up, but in my opinion, it’s 90-95% similar to Layton. The difference lies in the harmony and ingredient quality of Layton, being a niche scent. I’m not saying it’s bad; quite the opposite: it’s exquisite, elegant, seductive, and sophisticated, but there are better options. Is it worth it? Absolutely! Will you smell different and attractive? A resounding yes! To conclude, I’m sure it will become my favorite. I’ll let it rest and wear it in a month; it happened with others before.
Smells like a cheap knockoff.
For special events, it’s a bit sweeter than what I’m looking for, which is why I see it as unisex. It’s fresh, but if you apply too much, it gets heavy. Smells clean and sweet, wouldn’t use it daily. 8/10
