I don’t know Layton, but I do know the Parfums de Marly with a similar profile: citrus, spicy, and clean with lavender. It’s a fragrance worth considering; it reminds me of the 90s and early 2000s style, with apple, lavender, and citrus that smell clean but evolve little. The dry down leaves a medicinal touch, similar to Amber Oud by Al Haramain. Here in my country, the 60ml costs about $70, which isn’t a great price-to-quality ratio and marks the rising prices of Arab brands.
Picked it up in Chile for about $55 with shipping. Watch out, don’t sniff it straight from the bottle because it smells like nail polish alcohol. If you apply it heavily, it smells like pure alcohol until you let it settle for 5 minutes; then comes a rich, fresh green apple, followed by a citrus note with lavender and a hint of pepper. At 20 minutes, the apple remains with subtle vanilla and prominent lavender, a bit powdery. On my skin, it evolves and is interesting, though I’m not exactly sure what Layton smells like.
I own and adore Layton, and this is similar, but the difference becomes apparent later: this smells sweeter and less like chocolate, perhaps making it more unisex. Plus, it feels a bit simpler, with fewer nuances than Layton. In short, it’s very pleasant and similar, but I still prefer the original.
I had big hopes but didn’t find what I was looking for. While it has similarities to Layton, it smells more citrusy, and for an ‘Extrait,’ I expected more wildness. This will be my last Orientica purchase. Edit: Let the perfume breathe and tried it again; what power! Two people I live with were immediately enchanted. I retract my first impression.
Bought it to check if it was fake, and it’s legit, but I noticed the box says ‘Eau de Parfum’ while the bottle says ‘Parfum’. That leaves me wondering about the concentration. On the plus side, the trail and projection are insane—if it’s 90% or more, it rivals Layton.
Bought it early in the year with high hopes, but it doesn’t perform as expected in this heat. I’ve kept it stored for six months with no change; I’m planning to try it out in the fall to see if it improves. Sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming, but I think that’s just me.
