For me, this is the definitive leather. Although I usually own several perfumes with my favorite note, trying and buying Cuir by Mona di Orio made me stop looking for more. The leather is deep and front-and-center; yes, it’s quite animalic and the castoreum is noticeable, but Virginia juniper and opoponax balance everything with an elegance that makes it ruthlessly wonderful. Every note is perfect, transporting you to a horse ranch next to a lush forest. You don’t need multiple leathers; this is undoubtedly the most elegant on the market.
This Mona fragrance is hard to digest at first and can smell like dirty ashtray if you don’t give it time and analyze it well. Cuir isn’t just smoked leather; its evolution makes it interesting and unusual. It’s a formidable, complex work walking a dark path with smoke, mossy green tones, and cade wood, right up to the edge of an animal leather cliff thanks to the potent, wild, warm castoreum in a retro ’80s style. That duality, even if not fully defined, makes it beautiful—a postmodern power move that turns it into a unique, incredibly refined masterpiece. Opoponax in the dry down rounds out that animal feel into something balsamic, pleasant, and vital, like a story with a happy ending. Cuir is brutal. Rating: 9.
A sexual, smoked, and sweaty leather defines this incredibly different perfume. It’s an olfactory experience that’s difficult to process but worth living. I have a very complete review on my blog: historias-fragantes.blogspot.com
Pffft, one of the hardest perfumes I’ve found from my idol Mona di Orio. To put it briefly, it’s a very smoked leather with spicy touches and a dry down heavy on castoreum. The quality is impressive, but for my nose, it’s excessive. Look, I think it’s spectacular and very different, but I wouldn’t dare wear it; for me, it’s too much. The longevity and sillage… monstrous! P.S.: For those who say Mugler’s A Men is strong, if they try this, it could take them to the hospital.
