Vanille by Mona di Orio is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2011, this composition was created by nose Mona di Orio. The top notes unfold with cloves, rum, bitter orange, and petit grain; the heart reveals guaiac wood, sandalwood, vetiver, and ylang-ylang; while the base notes settle on Madagascar vanilla, amber, tonka bean, balsam of Peru, leather, and musk.

  • It took me by surprise: I didn’t expect a sugary vanilla gourmand, but a marvel with rum, clove, and a fascinating dry-down of guaiac wood. You can see Mona’s vision: a ship full of riches like woods, fruits, and spices. It has that retro, minimalist, rustic, and simple air. The quality of the essences is excellent, something we’ve been missing, and applying it brightens your day. The longevity is enormous and the trail exceeds the average. Here you see the difference between mainstream brands and niche designers like Mona. Exceptional and ahead of its time; one day she will be considered one of the best perfumers of this century, alongside works like Vetiver or Musc. I absolutely loved it, 8.5 points.

  • It caught me by surprise: I wasn’t looking for sweet vanilla, but a ship journey loaded with rum, clove, and guaiac wood. It’s that retro, minimalist, and rustic vibe that Mona knows how to give without pretension. The quality of the essences is brutal, with longevity and projection that exceed the average. You can tell the difference between big brands and niche designers like her. A work ahead of its time, just as incredible as Vetiver or Musc. I absolutely loved it, 8.5 points.

  • For me, another masterpiece of Mona di Orio and modern perfumery. This was love at first sniff. I’m not a vanilla fan, but this one is very woody and spicy, with notable rum and clove, of course, plus vanilla. The thing is that vanilla or gourmand fans might be disappointed, as it’s not a vanilla perfume per se, but a woody-spicy oriental that uses vanilla just as an accompaniment. It’s like what you’d smell on an old ship transporting vanilla and spices, reviving that journey. It’s very rare for a perfume to impact me instantly, and this is one of the few, along with Vetiver from the same collection. Sillage above average and excellent longevity (more than 12 hours without applying much). What a huge loss this perfumer is to us.

  • Another gem from Mona di Orio and modern perfumery. Upon trying it, it was love at first sight. I’m not a vanilla fanatic, but here what stands out is the woody and spicy side with very present rum and clove; the vanilla just accompanies. Imagine smelling an old ship transporting spices: it’s a unique olfactory journey. It’s rare for something to impact me instantly, but this and Vetiver are my favorites from the collection. Sillage and longevity are excellent, over 12 hours. What a pity to lose this perfumer.

  • I suspect it’s the clove, especially the bitter orange, which gives it a sour tone for the first three hours that, like in other perfumes, reminds me of vomit. It doesn’t pass the tolerance threshold; it’s there and just doesn’t work for me. Otherwise, the rum… I mean, alcohol never smells like alcohol to me, and here it’s the same. As for the vanilla, although the brand boasts it’s natural and sometimes smells like a bean pod… well, I wish it did, but it doesn’t. At first, with the clove and other notes, it does recall that spicy scent of a bean pod, then it smells like normal vanilla, okay, not like the stuff from Mercadona haha, but not like a bean pod either. Despite this, it’s not bad and lasts a long time, but it simply doesn’t suit me, especially not at the astronomical price.

  • Pupa.Ball

It’s a very particular, interesting, and elegant perfume with immense personality and an incomparable character. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep it; I stored it for three or four years hoping I’d grow to like it, but it always gave me nausea.
