  Botafumeiro’s opening is a smoky cloud where opium is the undisputed king, with a gentle tickle in the nose from pink pepper. As it dries down, balsamic nuances of benzoin emerge along with a subtler smoky touch from frankincense. Unfortunately, after 4 hours, the opium burns on my skin and drowns everything else (this happens with all opium-led perfumes). Projection is bomb-like at first and lasts at least 3 hours before fading, though it’s still noticeable until 8 hours. It’s a winter, nighttime, unisex scent with a masculine vibe, perfect for special or formal occasions. It’s a beautiful perfume, just not for me (I prefer Encens Suave, which is kinder and sweeter). If it suits you, it smells very distinguished, but it’s not versatile and feels too heavy for me. Pleasant: 7/10 Interesting: 8/10 Versatile: 4/10 Original: 6/10
