Lubin’s Akkad is a spiced oriental from that legendary Parisian house founded in 1798. It kicks off with an orangey citrus note, but it’s just an illusion; soon it yields to frankincense and elemi, which together strip away the churchy vibe to give something mysterious, blending that smoke and resins with the heat of cardamom. Then you get a powdery touch from labdanum and patchouli (which is hard to track down) over a sweet base of vanilla and a balsamic amber that adds serious sensuality. I like it from the start, but the heart phase when the amber kicks in is simply wow, and the drydown with more vanilla is another marvel. The note quality is top-notch and everything is well-balanced; all notes are visible but none dominate. What a shame I wasted months with the sample without noticing… as soon as I wore it on a quiet afternoon, I decided to buy the bottle. It’s a must-have for amber and frankincense lovers, a top overall and one of my best purchases. It’s complex, versatile, warm, mysterious, and seductive; with this, you leave no one indifferent (not even yourself, it’s addictive). Longevity is +15h, projection doesn’t need to fill a room, it’s not invasive, and it feels just right with movement. Totally unisex. A proper beast with all the letters.

I like it. It starts fruity-orange and quickly turns into a churchy incense, where amber, elemi, and vanilla provide a sweet base, cardamom adds a spicy touch, and clary sage gives a green wink. I don’t usually go for very incense-heavy fragrances, but this one I really liked. The quality is extraordinary and the performance is quite good. It reminded me a bit of Jubilation. Perfect for autumn and winter, for day and night. Longevity is very long-lasting and the trail is moderate.
