Descripción
212 VIP Black by Carolina Herrera is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2017, this composition was created by Carlos Benaïm and Anne Flipo. The top notes unfold with absinthe, anise, and fennel; the heart reveals lavender; and the base notes close the structure with black vanilla pod and musk.

I already reviewed 212 VIP and loved it (smelled like a bathed potato in alcoholic punch ngl), although its projection isn’t huge and you need more sprays. This version is different: vanilla, soapy, herbal, floral, sparkling, soft, sweet, and creamy. If the normal VIP was delicious, this is an ELIXIR. Delicious and pleasant for parties, cold weather, and night, but versatile and a compliment machine. Perfectly unisex; using a potent fragrance isn’t outdated. Don’t abuse the environment, but you won’t smell like Baccarat Rogue. It opens soapy, sparkling, and herbal, with a creamy and sweet sensation. The pyramid lists absinthe, anise, and fennel; these enhance the absinthe with herbal touches. Then comes the soapy floral part, woody with lavender, reminiscent of fougères like Faberge Brut, but more rustic and spicy. 212 VIP Black is the fougère spirit with a creamy and sweet touch (without being overwhelming), as if you multiplied the sweet dry-down of Brut by three and kept it throughout the journey. The dry-down is muted vanilla, like incense or vanilla candle. It’s a creamy, sweet, and minimalist Faberge Brut, classic but current. It deserves to be one of my top fragrances and a signature for these cold days. A resounding 10/10.
The definitive men’s perfume: aromatic, sweet, alcoholic, with a fresh spicy touch. It doesn’t have the performance some claim, but for the aroma, it’s worth the disappointment of being short-lived. It has a party side, but for me, it works perfectly as a daily wear; it’s not that crazy night scent they say. I’d choose it a thousand times; it’s a great perfume.
I bought it because they said it was a bomb, and for me, it isn’t. It smells good, yes, but I wore it during the day and many say it’s for night and parties; it just doesn’t convince me that way. It doesn’t last at all for me, only a few hours with weak projection.
I bought a decant, and honestly, it smells good and is easy to like. After reading reviews saying it’s party-focused and for night, I disagree. I think it’s good even for daytime; nothing heavy or cloying. I agree with the previous reviewer: it works for everything except summer over 35 degrees. Buy the full bottle.
They say it used to be a beast 🙁 Now it seems its performance isn’t the best, maybe it improves with age. Smells incredible, so good that everyone should try it, but it doesn’t project as much as rumored.
The perfume that has given me the most compliments from both men and women. The real compliment beast: projects massively, easy to like, a conversation starter, totally nocturnal due to its potency, and lasts forever.
One of the richest scents, a compliment beast. Unfortunately, poor projection and trail for going out; lasts about 7 hours on skin. Given how good it smells, I’d buy it again even if people say it only lasts 2 hours.
Caramelized vanilla, so delicious.
If I had to define it, it would be: Presence. It’s one of the best designer scents for going out and signing deals in winter. Projects massively and stands out in a crowd. The absinthe leads, without being alcoholic. It opens aromatic with anise, lavender, and vanilla, which then dominates as it dries. The musk adds a soapy, clean touch. Buy it blind; it’s made to be loved. Lasts about nine hours with a heavy trail at first. It doesn’t fade abruptly, dropping softly until it remains clean and sweet. Highly recommended for going out or cold weather. Worth every penny.
The anise note bothers me as it dries down, but otherwise, this is a monster of a scent.
I bought it after seeing several reviews on YouTube, but the thing is, it’s not as good as they say. A rich perfume, perfect for cool, chill nights. Nothing world-class, besides, it projects very little. Overall for me, it would be a 7 out of 10.
Honestly, it’s my least favorite from the 212 VIP line; it smells like it doesn’t belong in the line at all, nothing special whatsoever. Sincerely, the designer perfume industry is getting worse by the day, just like the people, what a disaster, and it’s a shame since I respect this brand so much. The original is a beast, and the classic 212s were good, but this flanker I only see on young guys and maybe for dates if the girl isn’t picky about scents; it doesn’t smell bad but it’s nothing special. At least you can get it cheap online; I wouldn’t pay more than twenty dollars for this; honestly… As for the scent, hmm, something similar to the mentioned notes, though I don’t perceive that alcoholic note much, only very faintly. It projects normally and has a normal trail, it smells like mall fragrance. Cheers…
I have a special fondness for this perfume. It was one of the first I bought since I started entering this world of scents. The sad part is that neither maceration nor the passage of time helped improve its performance, which is downright bad. You could say it projects and is perceived well for a maximum of the first 2 hours or 1.5 hours. From there until 4 hours, it’s just skin scent. Which is terrible. The aroma is pleasant and tasty for most people. But if you want to smell the scent all day or at a party, you must carry a decant with you and reapply every 2 hours. Given the price, it’s not worth it.
Look on the bright side, a classic original. Although it has the typical DNA of these fragrances with the usual vanilla base, the absinthe note and the anise touch make it different. That said, the opening seemed a bit aggressive, with a touch of wilted flowers. But once it dries down, it becomes a very rich scent that seduces, sparks curiosity, and even tenderness. I see it as quite youthful and nocturnal. The bottle is elegant, with a black glass top and a magnetic cap that’s easy to grip. Very well. Performance? The reference application I usually consult gives it average projection and above-average longevity. But even though it lasts, in the final dry-down phase it weakens to skin scent. Still, I’ll rate the purchase. Created by Carlos Benaim, a perfumer with several classics in his portfolio. Fine cinnamon.
I think it’s an acceptable representative of the Invictus trend. It’s very similar to Magnat by Esika, which came out two years earlier and follows the same current, with the difference being that the latter is much cheaper. It’s a simple and youthful scent, more casual than formal.
It’s a very rich scent, masculine and for casual outings, but given the price and performance, it’s not worth it, at least for me. It lasted about 4 hours or less, and I’m being generous. It wasn’t olfactory fatigue because I asked people around me and they couldn’t smell it. It does have good projection and a trail for about 40 or 50 minutes, after which it drops considerably. What a shame because it is a great scent.
Dangueb, your comment is the most misinformed I’ve ever read. Your collection can’t be considered tiny; 80 perfumes are nothing. Please comment again once you have more experience and over 140 perfumes in your collection, newbie.
I like the smell, it starts with a boozy absinthe lavender, however, when I apply it, it usually gives me a headache, and this has only happened with this one and Club de Nuit Intense Man EDP in my small collection of 80 perfumes.
This is a beast of a perfume, my absolute favorite that beats everything I’ve tried lately. It has a dark, mysterious, unique, and super sexy vibe taken to the max. It’s super versatile, perfect for parties, dates, or casual outings whenever it’s cold or fresh. Too bad the only batch I can find is the reformulated one, which they say doesn’t last as long as before; I guess I was a little late. Still, I’d buy it over and over again. The scent is a sweet lavender and vanilla blend that doesn’t get cloying, and I think the absinthe note is the key to giving it that playful and attractive touch, so it doesn’t matter to me if the reformulation made it less potent or worse in projection. Don’t burn me for this.
For me it’s one of the best Carolina Herrera perfumes and one of the best for going out to parties, pubs, or venues. Very masculine perfume that smells great. I have early batches and it’s a real bomb, lasts a beast and floods a room without bothering, it eats up most perfumes nowadays that are beast mode with potatoes. The current batches have ruined it, it doesn’t last at all. I recommend buying it if you catch the early batches; if you want, you can talk to me, I have several bottles. For buying the current version, I don’t recommend it.
This is a wonderful perfume for men between 20 and 30 years old, very Playboy, fun and charming, with great performance at parties or informal social events.
It smells rich and is unisex, though it leans more masculine. The downside is that, aside from the high price, it lasts a maximum of 3 or 4 hours and is barely noticeable from half a meter away. It’s good, but not as much as people say.
An excellent perfume for nighttime use, especially cool nights. I see it more for informal parties in places like clubs. The scent is amazing. The sweet and spicy aldehyde notes are perfectly felt, then moving to a vanilla and slightly musky dry-down, without losing that ‘spicy’ presence of the spices entirely. It’s my second bottle; I had a 2021 batch and my current one is from 2024, and honestly it remains extremely long-lasting, easily giving me 12 hours on skin, if not more. Probably it’s not a bomb that irradiates everywhere, but it definitely has a fulfilling trail. To conclude, the price in my country is around $70, so it’s a good option for the quality.
Batch 05/23. The first time I smelled it I have to admit I didn’t like it; if that’s the absinthe smell, I simply don’t like it, I think that’s where the phrase ‘clean sweat’ comes from. Luckily it evolves and becomes sweeter, I’d say vanilla-like; this stands out quite a bit, it’s a scent I hadn’t smelled before. It’s completely masculine, nothing unisex, it smells like a man and finesse. It’s for cold days and nights; in heat I don’t recommend it, although the opening can be bearable, as it develops it becomes a heavy fragrance and in heat everyone will hate you. For parties it’s good for the same reason it stands out. If you plan to use it in the office, make sure there’s air conditioning. As for longevity, I don’t know if I got a good batch or my skin is grateful, but it easily lasts 8-10 hours; it lasts and projects quite a bit and you will definitely attract attention. I don’t recommend buying it blind because of the opening and that smell sticking around forever, although to a lesser extent. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give it an 8.
Interesting opening, then it turns into a generic green perfume and as it dries down it smells like toothpaste. Meh, something clean but nothing particular or standout, harmless.
Vanilla aroma, informal yet elegant.
A perfume to please, ideal for someone young who shines at night, but I also see it as perfect for daily wear in winter. It brings me memories: at first it smells like Ultra Male by JPG and as it dries down it leans into that clean base of blue perfumes. At the start you feel the absinthe with anise and lavender. As it dries down, it sweetens and the lavender rises. There I notice a clean base like BDC with vanilla and lavender on top. Throughout the dry-down phase I notice a sweet pear, hence the memory of Ultra Male. It’s very well known and has been around for years, but now it’s not used as much. If you want something that pleases without overdoing it, it’s a good option with a good price. Scent: 7, Longevity: 8 (2021 batch), Versatility: 7.
A beauty. Sweet, elegant, mysterious, hard not to like. For all ages and night outings. Good performance and trail. Always in my collection. Buy blind, yes.
I first heard about 212 VIP Black through YouTube channels where it was crushing it when asked about by people. Curious, I went to a store and a sales associate gave me a sample. When I got home, I applied a small amount and didn’t like it; it smelled like that generic nighttime scent. Major mistake. I tried a decant other days and nothing. Why does it appeal so much? Tired of giving it chances, one day I applied a lot to finish it off and then I understood everything. The scent changed completely: it was a bomb and one of the best aromas I’ve ever smelled. The next day I got the 100ml bottle. Since I started using it, it’s been the most exaggerated compliment I’ve received, from women, men, and people used to my perfumes (I have many) or strangers. Without a doubt, it’s the best made to please at parties and capable of getting it. I have to say it, but it has surpassed my beloved Y EDP and Le Sel De Sel in compliments. When a simple formula is done so well, it’s hard to beat it; Carolina Herrera usually goes ahead. I’ve only used it in temperate/cold weather and at night, where it reaches its maximum potential, but I don’t think it clashes much during the day (except hot sunny days). The absinthe and anise note hits at the start, giving way to the aromatic and vanilla part, ending up being a blue/green perfume that gently maintains those initial notes. Strangely, after hours of dry-down, it reminds me of something like Y EDT in its new version. I don’t know if it was more potent before, but I spray 8-10 times in the afternoon and I still notice it quite a bit the next day. For me, it’s a 10/10 in what it sets out to do.
It’s incredible to me. The simplicity of the scent makes it usable all year. It smells like alcohol, denotes presence and authority, like a dad’s perfume that any young person can wear. It’s elegant, sweet, and penetrating. I haven’t heard anything similar. It’s a magnificent creation that takes you back to the 2010s, timeless and super versatile.
There’s not much to say; it generates lots of compliments and is too party-ready. Sometimes I end up alone because I smell good, but the downside is it doesn’t last long. Great projection for the first three hours, then it drops significantly.
Many say it doesn’t last, but I love it and it lasts a long time, even on clothes. I’m generous with the sprays and wear it all year. Smells rich, different from other Carolina Herrera scents, and you’re sure not to smell bad. I’ll be buying another bottle.
It’s very good, lasts about 50 seconds on skin, and smells super sexy and youthful. Excellent for many situations. Among the ones that don’t last at all, I’d stick with The One EDT or 212 Heroes. It smells strong at first.
Smells like Phantom but spicier and less earthy. When it dries down, it leaves a musk with lavender. It’s okay, but sweet scents make me lazy.
I bought a 2025 batch and was disappointed by the longevity. It smells great but disappears in 10 minutes and sticks to the skin. Good for a quick errand, but it doesn’t cut it for going out at night. Scent: 7/10, Longevity: 0.5/10. Don’t buy unless you’re just collecting.
Mixed feelings, leaning negative. I bought it for that previous scent profile with the absinthe and anise touch I loved. The bottle is gorgeous with its magnetic cap and the price isn’t bad (€42 for 50ml), but it’s not worth paying even €20 for this: IT DOESN’T LAST AT ALL. Practically zero. I checked stats and YouTuber reviews before buying, and nothing hinted at this poor performance, making me think it’s probably the 2025 batch. It’s not a fake; I got it on sale at Primor, and it’s not anosmia either since no one around me smells it. Recently I bought Aether by French Avenue which doesn’t last long… and this lasts even less. It lasts 1-2 hours on my skin even when I’m generous with 10-12 sprays. Sillage barely does anything for the first 30 minutes at close range. The scent is the only redeeming factor. Notes: Scent 8, Longevity 3, Projection 4, Price 7. Total: 5.5 (my lowest score in Fragrantica).
It’s the nighttime version of the original 212 VIP. Smells youthful and carefree. The reformulations lowered the potency; now it lasts an hour on skin, but all day on clothes. Ideal for cool nights, though in intense cold, it shows less. Mid-range price, depends on where you buy it.
What a wonder! It was my first perfume ever and has gotten me so many compliments. It smells masculine, sweet, yet with lavender and absinthe that make it luminous. It doesn’t last as long as the ‘beast mode’ perfumes, but it’s top-tier for casual parties. I bought it cheap, and now it costs more, so if you see it at a good price, try it before buying.
Smells great at first, but after 15 minutes, it’s gone. I think it’s olfactory fatigue because the trail lasts for hours, but for the price, it’s not worth it. Better to go with something from Esika or Avon.
I love the scent, but it doesn’t last on my skin at all. Honestly, I wouldn’t buy it again.
