Don’t be intimidated by the ‘fatal’ in the name. At first, Chypre Fatal might seem like a harsh patchouli that makes some people walk away, but wait ten minutes and watch as the other notes soften the scent dramatically. What emerges is a soft peach blended with rose, all wrapped in the creaminess of vanilla, though the patchouli remains the undisputed star. What a patchouli! The truth is, you can tell the price in the quality of the raw materials; if you’re a patchouli lover, it’s hard to be disappointed. But if you’re looking for high performance, it will let you down, as the trail is soft-to-moderate and lasts about seven hours. Since it’s a rare scent to find and try, I’ll add that at the start it smells very much like the punchy patchouli of Angel Muse by Mugler, while drying down it reminds me of the discontinued Midnight Poison (just with peach instead of citrus). Even if you don’t plan to buy it, if you get the chance, don’t miss out on giving it a sniff!
