Outlands by Amouage

Of the Amouage scents I own, this Outlands is the most wearable. It blends potent ingredients with softness: resin, oud, patchouli, and cardamom, but with citrus and florals that keep it lively and fresh. It has a touch of maltol that smells like eating a fruit candy in a field right after a fragrant tree has been pruned. It doesn’t last long, and that’s a good thing because it’s not overwhelming. Don’t buy it without trying it first 🕉️🕉️🕉️

Starting point: Amouage. Interesting fragrance, with personality, intense, amber, and balsamic, with optimal performance. Up to here, all good. But in my opinion, there’s a wall between me and the scent: a sugary anise note that blocks my entry. The rest is fine: it opens citrusy and incense-like, then spices, and dries down to an amber, resinous, and balsamic finish. It’s very well constructed, with strong pillars… but that sugary wall I can’t jump over, not even with an elevator. It conditions everything for me. I understand the devotees, I admit it’s a beast… but it’s not for me. Unisex, for cold weather, versatile, and formal, with sublime performance. The price is over the top, like any brand these days… Outlands, yes, but not for me.

Everything good you’ve heard about this perfume is true. It’s truly extraordinary. It smells fresh yet dense, with a citrusy and spicy opening of ginger and pepper. It’s not a citrusy summer energizer, but sweet, like lemon peel with caramel. Then the spicy heart with cardamom, coriander, and cumin. The dry-down is sweet and resinous with very dense oud and a chocolatey patchouli that smells milky, even though it’s not declared. It’s a fragrance of contrasts: fresh and warm, citrusy and sweet, balsamic and aromatic… the best of two worlds. East and West united. Created with mastery. Performance: the best of all. A real BOMBA, it floods rooms (and entire houses) and lasts over 12 hours on skin. Another 10 for Amouage, for Cecile, and another ruin for my wallet.

I love Amouage fragrances; almost all are complex, intense, and have a special base, but sometimes they’re difficult. I love their safe openings. Epic is less intense but just as complex, thanks to its refreshing incense. For me, Outlands is the perfect symbiosis: the first spray evokes cotton candy, a bit sweet and intense. Then something unexpected emerges: cold incense, top-tier, with extreme intelligence. From there, a unique experience. The ethereal nuances of the incense seem enhanced with menthol, ethereal and fresh. You’ll notice an oriental spice accompanying it, I believe cardamom and pink pepper. The best part is that nothing stands out; it maintains balance, like a well-seasoned meal. The spices add an oriental touch without smelling like a curry restaurant. A complex aroma develops that combines an intense, amber, enveloping gourmand with contemplation and devotion. A cloud of incense trapped inside. This sweet, dense base is a work of art, more beautiful and warmer over time, displacing the resin. Every meditation has an end. In the end, you find yourself trapped in an intense red oriental sunset, ecstatic. I can imagine that gourmand note comes from Amouage’s new aging process. Associations with a good, intense, and cozy wine are inevitable. My wallet, we need to talk. We need an agreement.

Fabulous… Incredible evolution… An amber opening that reveals a slightly bitter citrus, like orange peel… It blends perfectly with the scent while accompanying a high-quality dark vanilla. A treat!
