  • It starts with a strong alcohol note, but settles in two minutes to reveal the perfume. It’s a ‘3-in-1’ fragrance: imagine a 10ml decant with 5ml of M7 Collection, 2ml of Opium, and 3ml of Laudano Nero or Ajmal Santal Wood—that’s what this smells like. The sandalwood is secondary; what dominates is the oud with a rough sandalwood base and a hint of anise from the current Opium. By the way, here you learn that sandalwoods aren’t all the same: I know two types, the CREAMY, SWEET, and slightly WET (like Le Labo Santal 33 or Commodity Book) and the DRY, ROUGH, and slightly BITTER (like this Dunhill, Laudano Nero, or Ajmal Santal Wood). On my skin, it started with medium-high projection for a few hours, dominated by the M7 scent with a Laudano Nero base and a touch of Opium. Then it dropped to medium-low projection for another 4 hours, where the mentioned aromas were balanced, though I sometimes noticed more Opium and other times more M7. Finally, it lasted another 4 hours close to the skin, with M7 in the background and the rough sandalwood like Laudano Nero or Ajmal coming forward. With 10 hours of longevity and medium projection, it’s for formal occasions and cold or cool climates; in heat or temperate weather, it can get tiring or annoying quickly. That’s why I wouldn’t use it more than a couple of times a week to avoid saturation. Although it’s from the Signature Collection, I see it at the same level as Desire, Icon, or any other from the house. I think its price, over $100, should be around $70, though this is relative: some will love it and pay over $100.

  • It’s a dry, elegant, and classic sandalwood. Dunhill hits the mark again. It’s an unchallenging fragrance that’s hard not to like, but you need to dress elegantly for it to shine. I think it will appeal more to mature people.

  • I’ve been testing it daily for a week and confirm: it’s a total hit. I apply it at 8 AM with 5 sprays, and by 11 PM it’s still there, very skin-scented. It’s not sharp at the start, more citrusy, but the citrus fades in a minute and the sandalwood arrives to last all day. Regarding the projection, sometimes I lose track of wearing it; I’m not sure if it’s olfactory fatigue or the fragrance’s effect; people have stopped me asking what I was wearing when I couldn’t even smell it myself, so it has this effect of appearing and disappearing, and yes, I’ve gotten compliments. I see it as a mid-season scent, neither for cold nor heat; in summer it can be heavy except on cool nights, and it’s not for full winter because it lacks the punch for the cold. It’s more of a daytime fragrance, though it depends on testing. The scent is a delight, serious, dry, and classy, although it needs a bit more ‘beast mode,’ since those who have smelled it have enjoyed it. The bottle is robust and well-made, the box is beautiful, but watch out for the cap—it’s not magnetic but press-fit. Despite everything, I don’t see it as worth spending more than $40; something’s missing to justify the price, especially compared to 100ml of Bentley that used to cost under $30. It’s in that good quality line, not niche, but it also doesn’t deserve what they’re charging now. I bought it on a whim and have no regrets because the scent is what matters and I really like it. I also own Egyptian Smoke, but I should test it more these weeks; I guess my opinion on the Dunhill line I’ve tried won’t change much.
