Why isn’t this masterpiece talked about more? What a niche gem this Tocade is. It’s so great to find cheap perfumes that leave you speechless. It’s a geranium pulled from a future capsule, slightly mutated, and that’s exactly why you can’t stop staring at it. Microplastics have been integrated into the scent; you smell them, you feel them with vivid colors. Citrusy, talc-like, sweet, and bright. The bottle does justice to the juice inside. I see it as unisex and think it would look spectacular on a man. Wow.
Sorry, why isn’t this gem talked about more? Tocade has such a great niche vibe. It’s amazing to find powerful, affordable perfumes that leave you breathless. It’s like a geranium brought in a time capsule from the future, slightly mutated, and that’s exactly why you can’t stop staring at it. Microplastics are integrated into it, and you can even smell them, with vivid colors. Citrus, talc-like, sweet, and bright. I think the bottle does justice to the juice inside. I see it as unisex; in fact, I think it could look spectacular on a man. Wow.
This scent evokes the perfumes of elegant women from the eighties, those multicolored and multifacetic ones that drew attention. I knew and used the 1994 Tocade, which I enjoyed a lot because it was a more wearable version than the 2018 one. First off, this doesn’t resemble its predecessor. The 2018 version has many notes, but the most notable are four: geranium, tonka bean, labdanum, and almond. When it dries on my skin, it reduces to a geranium with very powdery, clean labdanum. It reminds me a lot of baby powder; if you like that sensation, this perfume is an excellent choice.
What stands out from start to finish is the geranium; the rose is barely noticeable, perhaps because the geranium takes the lead. It’s rich thanks to that geranium with vanilla and amber, and that slightly bitter touch could be the labdanum. It’s not intrusive, lasting 4 or 5 hours on the skin with its bursts. It’s rich, slightly powdery, but without being cloying. If you’re looking for heavy sillage or projection, this might not be your thing, but it’s a gem to discover. Maybe it would go great layered with something rose-based.

Fortunately, it smells exactly as I remember: amber, vanilla, and tonka bean, all extremely potent. These three notes dominate the entire evolution, although it has floral bursts with geranium and rose, very pleasant and intense; some might find them too invasive, but I love those changes. On dry down, I notice the almond, a delicious nuance. It’s unisex, slightly feminine, ideal for cool nights or days due to its potency. Thanks to the house for keeping it after the reformulation; it’s timeless and enduring.

It reminds me of Desquared’s Want: both are vanilla scents with distinct nuances, a clean base, sweet but never gourmand, elegant, warm, and nostalgic. But I prefer Want, one of my favorites. The thing I like most about this 2018 Tocade is that it maintains the design of its 90s bottle, although the fragrance also catches my attention, there’s a note that feels too plastic and gives me a headache. Sweet amber and almond dominate, again, feeling plastic; I know you can’t expect much more given the price, but I perceive it constantly. On the plus side, it’s a sweet scent that isn’t cloying, with certain complexity and balance. It doesn’t remind me of any other fragrance, although sometimes, when smelling it close, I get memories of Oud Satin Mood Extrait by Francis Kurkdjian, as if you put this perfume extract on a new doll. I’d love to smell the original unreformulated because, in itself, I really like the scent. High longevity, high projection, needing few sprays.

2018 Tocade smells endearing and timeless, with that touch that fits better in the last century. Its sweetness achieves precious roses and iris, with very powdery fragments that remind me of my sister’s dolls and past times. Although it’s a sweet oriental scent, it knows how to play with its components, using nuanced labdanum and a very romantic rose. Maybe today it’s modernized with tonka and almonds, but on my skin they are almost imperceptible. Its powdery, non-dusty vanilla constantly reunites its flowers; the amber comes out at the end but acts in the background. I recognize it in someone with style who wears beauties that don’t bow their heads, although nowadays the great glories of the recent past receive an inadmissible visual categorization in stores. I don’t know if it resembles the Tocade of old, impossible to calibrate, but its sillage isn’t what you’d expect from an oriental; its longevity on the skin is championship-level, leaving powdery effluvia on a handkerchief for hours. It seems hyper-feminine, ideal for a young girl evolving backward, moving away from current gourmands. Warning: although the bottle is pretty, don’t leave it without a box in the bathroom because the base is small and it can roll. I bet on this house for trying to relaunch past glories, with the quality and beauty they have always imprinted on every woman.
