I was about to buy this perfume blind, but luckily I ordered a 10 ml decant first to discover it smells terrible: it smells like roses with old, wilted, dry, bitter stems and the dirty water left in a vase after the flowers have died. The scent is unbearable; I’ve tested it multiple times and always get the same result—it’s awful. I haven’t liked ANY perfume from Elie Saab; every one I bought from this brand was blind, and I’ve already gotten rid of them. Out of all the perfumes I’ve owned and tried from this brand, this is undoubtedly THE WORST I’ve ever heard of.
Reading reviews like the ones below, it seems they only talk about the first impression, but okay. On my skin, after wearing it a couple of times, I’d say it has many more notes than what’s listed here: there are spices, perhaps patchouli, or maybe some alcohol note, and in summary, if you know the CH Burning Rose from the private line, it follows the same vibe. And of course, like many perfumes, the more time it rests, the better it performs.
An absolute gem, one of the best rose perfumes I’ve ever purchased and worn. Francis Kurkdjian did an incredible job here, stepping away from his own brand and other projects. Almost all the Elie Saab perfumes I own are fantastic due to their quality; this collection is amazing with a meticulous, minimalist, and stylish presentation. I loved the simple box with its elegant velvet pouch that protects the bottle’s clean lines and magnetic cap. The fragrance is one of the finest rose essences I’ve tried: not the classic ripe rose, but clean, pure, soapy, and without excessive powder. According to the brand, it uses rose centifolia and damascena with their absolutes, but there’s more: a moderate touch of patchouli that adds sweetness (not syrupy) and an indefinable liquor-like note that gives it liveliness and luminosity, as if there’s a hint of saffron reinforcing the rose and giving it body. I was pleasantly surprised by this blind buy, one of the best purchases I’ve made without hesitation.
