I tried a sample of White Aoud, and wow! A single spray filled the entire room. Montale always has marathon-level longevity, but here Red Aoud and Sweet Oriental Dreams are on another level, even surpassing the legendary Black Aoud. The fragrance itself is predictable: creamy florals and woods, not much spark. The oud is there, but not smoky—more medicinal. White Aoud smells like those old insecticides from before, very chemical. It’s not very unisex; due to its floral and powdery nature, it’s clearly feminine. It lives up to its name. Montale’s trick of assigning colors to fragrances (Black Aoud, Red Vetiver, etc.) is interesting because it tries to recreate that synesthesia of ‘smelling colors,’ and it works.

This perfume starts very woody and fresh, lasting about two hours. Then, powdery florals take over as the oud fades, losing that strong trail. Here, it becomes more feminine and skin-scented. Definitely oriental and feminine; it reminds me of the Indian shops in my hometown when I was a kid, or the floral powders my mom used to put on me. It’s nothing like it seems at first, and that’s what I liked most. It’s long-lasting, but not as it appears: it transforms into a different fragrance.
El poder del aroma
An oud wrapped in a bouquet of white flowers with a touch of vanilla. That’s how White Aoud suggests itself to me. But honestly, what I perceive most are the floral notes, with jasmine standing out. To me, it leans more feminine. I ordered a sample a few years ago and had to leave it with my mom. Anyway, it would suit a woman much better.

It’s a good Montale perfume. At first, it didn’t say anything to me; it was okay but I didn’t think much of it. However, I ended up liking its dry-down, though I must say I don’t see it for myself. On my skin, the jasmine stands out a lot, so I see it as leaning more feminine. But on a woman, I think this perfume is excellent. Longevity is the typical Montale: long. Projection is also the typical Montale: exaggerated.
