Liquid poetry of Guerlain’s love: sandalwood and jasmine dancing between births, deaths, and rebirths, as Queen of Sheba taught.
I’ve been loyal to ‘Samsara’ for years; it smells older than it is and always captivates me. Its sandalwood, which the house claims is reserved only for rituals in the East, paired with vanilla and jasmine, creates a powerful trio bolstered by ylang-ylang and amber. Sometimes it’s called oriental, but I see it as a ‘woodsy chypre’: ambivalent, modest yet intoxicating sweetness that transports you to a humid forest under a summer rain. It projects incredibly, smells discreet, and the extract works great with the body water for hair and clothes. Totally recommended, a work of art.
