Perfumer
Cecile Matton
Cécile Matton is a senior perfumer who has made her mark on the world of fragrances with her creations for some of the industry’s most iconic brands. Before joining Mane as a senior perfumer, she worked with renowned fragrance companies such as IFF and Givaudan.
As she grew up in Africa, Cécile was surrounded by intense scents due to the heat, and it was there that her love for fragrances began. As a teenager, she started blending fragrances using essences sold in the Pier Import stores in France before pursuing her dream of becoming a perfumer.
Cécile’s portfolio includes notable fragrances such as YSL Baby Doll, Valentino Gold, and Viktor & Rolf Bonbon. She also created the sensual offering Élegance Animale in the Lalique Noir Premier Collection, which has been hailed as the most “animalic” fragrance.
Her love of nutmeg and the green chypre accord is evident in her creations. When asked about her process, she reveals that she generally works on 10–20 perfumes at a time and sometimes needs to take a break and smell wool to refresh her nose.
Despite the limitations of regulations and the need to please as many people as possible, Cécile finds it exciting to work with new ingredients and explore new paths. She believes improving the sense of smell has a lot to do with memory and recommends training repeatedly to enhance fragrance appreciation.
