  • Arrived two weeks ago via Mercado Libre and I won’t let it go. It’s a rare perfume with a harmony that makes you enjoy it from start to finish. I smell a slightly smoky, salty leather—not the dark, dense leather of Shalimar. According to Fragrantica, perhaps it’s the Gurjum resin… they say the heart is earthy and has something of that. I detect woody notes mixed with delicate floral touches that balance it. I don’t smell sandalwood as a protagonist, though it’s there and blends with the leather. The best part is that all the notes are so well combined that I don’t smell them separately like in other perfumes. It’s super easy to wear, a strange scent that doesn’t overwhelm those around you. It feels very elegant, but in a natural way, perfect for daily use and events, always making a difference. Truly a signature fragrance. It has no super-special notes except the Gurjum balsam, yet it stands out above typical aromas. It became my new favorite! 04/02/2019: Having learned more about notes and combinations, and having transformed this perfume into my ultra favorite, I must correct my claims. Sandalwood is one of the main notes. A dry, slightly salty sandalwood. The leather and flowers (mainly rose) blend into the sandalwood with different nuances. It seems like a non-repetitive, very unique perfume because, although there are many ouds and patchoulis and Arab-style sandalwoods, this isn’t as potent or as “masculine.” I love it from top to bottom! To complete the review, I translate the comment by “jhitt793” (male) from fragrantica.com: “Elegance animale” opens with a refreshing, juicy peach note, subtly decorated with bitter saffron and geranium. Here, the fruity note that makes our mouths water is vivid and comforting from the initial application, balanced by the arid and earthy tones of the saffron as it settles. The heart unfolds with candied rose, indolic jasmine (a type of molecule), and a resinous note of Gurjum balsam. A deep, radiant rose is perceptible, reminding me of endless rows of burgundy roses at flower stands, lined up to be bought. The sweet but spicy aroma of Gurjum balsam pairs well with the aforementioned rose, while the slightly floral essence of jasmine dances in the background. “Elegance animale” concludes with an animalic base of leather and sandalwood. The suede-like leather note is magnificent, accompanying the rose and jasmine of the floral heart elegantly. It’s one of the best leather-floral chords in recent memory. As a unisex fragrance, “Elegance animale” leans somewhat feminine due to the dose of rose in the heart included in the composition. However, the smoky leather base adds a very necessary masculine tone. In short, I feel both men and women can enjoy wearing this fragrance. The trail, longevity, and projection are all above average in this “eau de parfum” concentration. It’s a robust fragrance, not much different from the exaggerated fashions of the 1980s, the era it was inspired by. The fruit-floral facets of the perfume would be exquisite in full summer, while the animalic-leather base seems to cut through the cold winter air. For these reasons, I feel “Elegance animale” can be successfully used all year round. One note, however, that the robustness of the composition is more suitable for evening/night use. Like an agile panther crouched and ready to pounce on its prey, “Elegance animale” is a sensually rich fragrance whose essence will surely seduce that important person in your life. I smell a slightly smoky, salty leather (it’s not that dark, heavy leather of Shalimar, as Fragrantica says perhaps it comes from Gurjum balsam). The heart is earthy and woody, but with floral touches that give it a delicate sweetness and balance it. • It’s a shame this rose and guaiac cologne doesn’t do justice to Lalique… I’ve run out of the original sample, and the more I smell this, the more my memory of Lalique distorts. What a horror. The cologne has an acidic touch, like an overly sharp citrus that fades into being less perfumed over time… Perhaps because I’m smelling it while longing for Lalique. Anyway, it will be put on sale.
