Bernard Chant was a legendary perfumer who left his mark on the fragrance industry as the lead perfumer for International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF). He was known for his incredible talent for creating complex yet natural scents and for his meticulous attention to detail when turning each ingredient into a symphonic masterpiece.

Chant’s signature style was dusty chypre with patchouli, which he used to create some of the most iconic fragrances of all time, including Grès Cabochard, Clinique Aromatics Elixir and Aramis. His perfumes often had a muted animalic quality that hinted at sweat and the bedroom, giving them a distinctive and memorable character.

Chant’s creations were revered by both perfumers and fragrance enthusiasts, and his concentrated perfumes left an aroma trail in the air that was both emotionally dry and incredibly present.
