Toque de Amor by Avon

Incredible fragrance, but I can’t find it in Peru anymore!:( I just tried the Oscar Eau de Toilette by Oscar de la Renta and they smell almost identical. In fact, I thought Toque de Amor was a dupe of that one, except this one costs 20 times more 🥲

Toque de Amor… so prevalent in middle-class households. Launched in 1960, when women were expected to be delicate and silent, caring for children and cooking daily recipes… while ‘Lady Avon’ saleswomen pitched their catalogs at social gatherings. Those ladies, with their red lipstick and hair pulled back, are the soul of this scent. It captured that feminine delicacy: soft, comforting, and not distracting from household chores. Ideal for housewives, with a pretty bottle for the vanity. At first, the aldehydes bubble up, but soon the flowers come dancing out with a powdery touch. Nothing steals the spotlight; it’s tender, perfect for sleeping in or as a body splash after a shower. I can picture a 60s woman humming ‘Little Bitty Pretty One’ in the kitchen, coquettish and sweet. It’s not for someone transgressive; it’s for those who have an ‘angel’.

It’s my childhood: my mom’s and grandma’s embrace. Warm, powdery, soapy, everything I loved as a kid. My mom asked for it every time she flipped through magazines and called it sophisticated. I smelled it today and it brought a rush of memories, a scent different from what I wear now. I’ll definitely buy it as soon as I can.

What vintage! It smells like my childhood; my mom used it and still likes it. It’s warm from the wood, sweetly floral (not invasive like caramel or vanilla), 100% powdery, and what stands out most are the aldehydes that make you sigh. I don’t know how it has such longevity; it’s old, from Avon, and very affordable. I use it to sleep in; the powdery scent lulls me and relaxes me, or maybe it’s just the feeling of a little girl near her mom 🤍.

I use it when I’m looking for an aromatic hug. It’s like an angel wrapping me up on happy or sad days, giving me a sweet boost. I love it, even though I have it in all versions (deodorant, cologne, and Eau de Toilette) and use them together to boost it. The refreshing cologne alone surprisingly lasts quite a bit.

I fell in love with Toque de Amor all over again. In Argentina, I only find it in Cologne (plastic bottle) and Alhambra. I got the first one and it brought so many memories: it’s calm, comforting, and brings peace. What surprised me most is that, on my difficult skin where national colognes don’t last, this cologne did, leaving a trail without a spray. It was wonderful to feel its scent all over my skin; it’s powdery, not as aldehydic as I remembered, and now it has gratifying persistence. It’s so affordable that I recommend trying it to those looking for classic, powdery, and floral scents. I don’t perceive anything fruity, just a bouquet of white flowers and well-being. I agree with those who compare it to L’Air du Temps from the 80s. Hopefully Avon brings back the perfume bottle like with Sweet Honesty; I see it similar to ‘Here’s My Heart’ from the 70s, maybe it’s a reformulation. As always, Avon doesn’t disappoint, and I prefer their perfumes to many imported or national ones that don’t last or aren’t good. Just my opinion, I respect those who don’t like the brand.

Toque de Amor is an Avon classic, soft yet more woody and sparkling than it appears. The downside is it doesn’t last long, but I recommend it: it’s very feminine, floral, and woody. To me, it smells like a great rose with vanilla and cream 😉🌺🥀

It’s a lovely scent but definitely has a vintage vibe; it’s what my mom used to wear her whole life and hasn’t changed. I like it for everyday comfort, but the notes feel too compressed, lacking that diffusion that makes a perfume sing its song; it comes across as flat with a slightly alcoholic dry-down, which is its vintage touch. I just bought Daisy Dream and recognize a similar vibe: it’s like DD is a more modern, youthful, feminine, and sophisticated version. I went with the latter, but if you prefer vintage, slightly sharper scents, Toque de Amor has the same comfortable, tender, and mature everyday appeal.

Another Avon classic I picked up right in the middle of Christmas. I grabbed the Alhambra version with that distinct bottle shared by some of the brand’s older colognes. I was expecting something sweeter, but the woody notes give it a more serious vibe than I imagined. At first, it smells clearly aldehydic and classic, but as it settles, it turns into a fresh, talc-like floral scent, a bit alcoholic, that brings back memories of family or some aunt/grandmother/mom from the 70s-80s. Nothing bad about it at all; I absolutely love these kinds of scents and didn’t expect less given the launch era and trends back then. It’s woody, classic, and fresh, perfect for post-shower wear in moderate seasons (not for summer because it’s too potent, nor for winter because the cold makes the floral freshness disappear), and the bottle is great for decoration too. Excellent price!

I bought the cologne yesterday thinking that by its name it would be sweeter, fresher, fruitier, and more romantic, a ‘pink cologne.’ In Argentina, near summer, I was looking for post-shower freshness. Instead, I found a classic, floral scent, not very sweet but which becomes sweeter and powdery as it dries. Honestly, it’s not my style (I prefer gourmand or sweet florals), but it’s not unpleasant. It feels classic, unpretentious, clean, floral (I don’t detect the fruity notes), a bit formal but since it’s a cologne, it’s not strong. I do notice woody notes too. It’s one of those that reminds you of something you used to wear as a girl, like Little Women. Even though it’s not entirely to my liking, I’ll give it more chances post-shower. I’ll use it to see how it evolves with the heat. Given its price (very economical here), it’s very convenient for women who like classic, floral, powdery, slightly formal, and non-intrusive scents. I feel it’s moderate; if you don’t like it, at least it’s not overwhelming.

It only brings me good memories since I wore it all through my childhood, until I was almost 14. It’s a strong powdery floral scent, very 90s. I wouldn’t wear it today, but I would buy a bottle to smell from time to time and remember happy years.
