The Vilhelm Oud Affair is that vital contrast between light and dark sweet honey wrapped in deep tobacco and soft oud. It’s that young man waiting on a bench after stealing a kiss from his dream girl but she doesn’t show up because he can’t erase his ex-lover from her heart. It’s the daily bus encounter with a woman with black eyes and a nice smile sharing the ride to work; there’s just a glance and when you decide to follow her she’s gone and the opportunity is lost forever. It’s that airport reunion after months apart where distance served to value the intensity of the love reuniting with more passion because the separation helped appreciate its strength. It’s that sixty-year-old man sunk into an armchair with a whiskey in hand watching a rainy autumn sunset staring at yellow letters he never sent to the woman who might have shared his life but simply didn’t. Vilhelm Oud Affair is a pure contrast of experiences where found and lost loves get tangled in the daily whirlwind a mix of realized and tormenting romances because just as there is the passionate gaze of someone who won’t stop kissing you there is also the sweet stinging pain of a dreamed love that never was. It’s a wonderful contrast of feelings that even when they hurt remind us how beautiful it is to feel. It’s as delicious and mysterious as love even if it’s just a perfume full of secrets. I discovered it three years ago a fleeting encounter I enjoyed but didn’t fully understand; today after this olfactory journey I wouldn’t just understand it I’d probably do it. Best regards to everyone.

The Vilhelm Oud smells like old wood and a powdery urinous touch at the start with spiced saffron and zero iodine. It’s warm animalic thanks to the civet and moderately sweet vanilla with a musky fluffy slightly acidic base. It feels masculine or for a woman with character with a spicy kick that burns a bit on the skin and a rich fluffy tobacco note—nothing like cigarettes. Be careful with your health! But if you’re looking for non-smoking tobacco flavors this is the move. On the skin it smells like real beeswax candles or propolis nothing like paraffin. The urinal note hits harder in winter like woodsmoke or the unwashed body of a middle-to-upper-class person who hasn’t showered. Maybe his dad liked oud or maybe he just smelled like a dirty house. It’s like coming from a financially secure family just barely above the school average where I was stuck with cheap generic perfumes. Today in autumn rain the beeswax candle note finally appears for the first time. Like other Vilhelms it starts bright and rich then settles and diffuses silently. Now that I have experience it doesn’t feel heavy anymore. The brand’s DNA is obvious: honey and vanilla sweetness with an animal touch from the honey and spicy tobacco and ginger (though I didn’t notice the ginger this time). The tobacco is fluffy sophisticated but almost no musk anywhere except the oud which is great. Probably synthetic resin and animal oils not natural but if it is I’d smile at the perfumery. Vilhelm Oud Affair smells like slightly urinous and powdery oud with a touch of spiced saffron at the start without iodine warm and specific. You should try it before buying unless you’re a sophisticated gourmand. It has that animal warmth of civet and oud oil perhaps with moderately sweet vanilla musky and fluffy with bitterness and acidity. It’s more masculine or for a woman of specific weight. It burns a bit on the skin with a distinctive fluffy expensive tobacco note—no cigarettes. I don’t recommend smoking; it’s bad for your health and unpleasant for others! Better to stick with tobacco flavor analogs. If you smell it on the skin it’s real candles like propolis or beeswax no paraffin. Regarding the urine smell I tested it in winter and it smelled like a lot of smoke like an unwashed body; I remember a classmate who smelled like that. Maybe his dad liked oud or he just didn’t wash and the house was dirty. Something like coming from a financially secure family but only slightly above the average where I was in elementary school. Just thinking back then they didn’t sell perfumes like this only cheap and generic ones. If there was perfume it was from a big city but judging by my classmate he didn’t wash after all. Noble flowers like a menagerie riders in reality. Today in this autumn rain it gave off a beeswax candle note for the first time. Like probably all Vilhelms it’s bright and rich at the start then settles silently and diffuses quietly. It was heavy for me back then now it’s totally normal with experience. The brand’s DNA and mannerisms are clearly visible. The sweetness comes from honey and vanilla the honey adds an animal touch. The spice comes from tobacco and ginger though the last time I didn’t perceive it as such. The tobacco is also fluffy speaking between us to all sophisticated noses but don’t forget that often there’s almost no musk anywhere it can just be silent in the pyramid. The oud of course is great here! I’m not sure if it’s natural Arabic oil probably more due to fatty resins and animals but if it is natural oil a nice smile to the perfumery.
