Soul by Costume National is romantic and captivating, bold and seductive. It opens with pink pepper and cardamom, and immediately the ambergris explodes with incredible power. It’s a spicy, prickly note that gives density but with freshness. Then the foundations emerge: oud and leather. The initial freshness turns into something deep, impactful, and sweet, with vanilla as the protagonist. It’s inevitable to compare it to the old YSL M7; it’s oud and vanilla, but the innovation of the ambergris makes it unique. Totally recommended. Longevity: 12h+, projection 5-6h, sillage two arms away. Warning: no more than 5 sprays and only in cold weather.

I like it. Intense medicinal-spicy opening, with the oud coming out early and the vanilla base gaining weight. The ambergris gives it a salty touch. Leather and patchouli are noticeable in the heart. The dry-down is vanilla-patchouli. It’s dry, resinous, slightly smoky with a hint of synthetic. Reminded me of M7 Oud Absolu but with better performance. I see it for cold, night, fall, and winter. Brutal longevity and heavy sillage.

  • Soul is dense, smoky, and slightly sweet. It mixes Amouage’s Interlude with the base of Ermenegildo Zegna’s Passion and the longevity of Amouage. It’s a spectacular and long-lasting blend (at least in heat) with moderate sillage. I’ll get the most out of it in winter/fall, but I’ve loved it. It’s not outrageously priced; it’s a signature fragrance if you want to leave a mysterious and charming mark. Magnificent!

  • Soul is a dense, smoky, and slightly sweet fragrance. It blends Amouage’s Interlude with Ermenegildo Zegna’s Passion, taking the base from the latter and matching the longevity of the Amouage. It’s a spectacular mix with great longevity (at least in heat) and a moderate sillage. Obviously, I’ll save this for winter or autumn, but I absolutely loved it 😁. It’s not outrageously priced, making it an excellent signature scent if you want to leave a mysterious and charming mark. Magnificent!

  • Amber, spicy, sweet, with a calm and soft oud. Magnificent, long-lasting, and projects well without being a beast. It’s original, little-known, and a great price for its quality, especially since it’s an EDP. Others love it; people ask me sometimes. I wear it best for cold weather and night dates, though it’s quite versatile. Not much more to add. For me, it’s a 4.75/5.

  • True to its notes: amber, spicy, and sweet, with a calm, soft oud heart. The scent is magnificent, long-lasting, and projects well without being a beast; it’s original, rare, and great value, especially as an EDP. Everyone loves it, both men and women, and sometimes they ask what I’m wearing. I prefer it for cold weather and night dates, though it’s actually quite versatile. Not much more to add. For me, it’s a 4.75/5.

Soul by Costume National is a great amber accord, avoiding the animalistic or overly resinous pitfalls to achieve perfect harmony. The opening (cardamom, pepper, bergamot) stays to reduce the density of the oud, amber, and vanilla, until the ambergris/ambroxan emerges, making it more versatile and enjoyable without losing complexity. I like it more than several of their line (Amber Sultan, Idole de Lubin, M7). Excellent price-to-quality ratio, unisex with a masculine touch, ideal for cold weather and special occasions. The house is top-tier; my favorite remains Pour Homme Parfum. Note: 8/10.

  • I bought it blind and it arrived three days ago. It’s not what I expected, but the moment I applied it, it reminded me a lot of Amouage’s Interlude Man: a softened spicy opening but very similar. The opening is good, though not my usual style; I imagined it more citrusy and less aggressive on the spices, it’s quite personal. Then comes a soft, perceptible oud that doesn’t overpower, with class. The longevity and projection are top-notch, and the dry-down is a vanilla-patchouli intoxication. A great perfume.

  • I bought this blind and it arrived three days ago. It wasn’t what I expected, but the moment I sprayed it, I was reminded of Amouage’s Interlude Man: that same spicy opening, just softer, with a very similar scent profile. The top notes are good, though not quite my style; I imagined something more citrusy and less aggressive on the spices, but it’s very personal. Then comes a soft, noticeable oud that doesn’t overpower, it has class. The longevity and projection are top-notch, and the dry-down is spectacular—vanilla, intoxicating, and combined with patchouli. A great perfume.

  • Niche quality at designer prices, that’s all there is to it. It’s an amber perfume with a creamy vanilla base and a top-tier cardamom, elegant and sensual. Lasts forever. Another proof that luxury perfumes can be made without crazy prices. Totally recommended.

  • Costume National is an absolute beast, no doubt. They have their own DNA and a signature amber that is pure gold. Sometimes their scents feel similar, but it’s undeniable they are unique. In this Soul, that amber shines brighter than ever, just like in Scent Intense, two masterpieces. It’s resinous, sweet, floral, and super elegant, without that mature patchouli note that I don’t like. The bottles are gorgeous; the perfumers couldn’t ask for more. Best of all, the Discovery Set for €15 includes shower gels. The €10 shipping is worth it because for €25 you can enjoy it for a couple of weeks. Absolutely brilliant, a true reference.
