Descripción
Scent Intense by CoSTUME NATIONAL is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2002, this composition was created by Laurent Bruyere. The top notes unfold with bergamot, green tea, and cardamom; the heart reveals hibiscus (Jamaica flower, cayenne), jasmine, and davana; while the base notes settle with ambergris, vanilla, leather, sandalwood, and patchouli.

I could wear this women’s fragrance… if I’m honest. It’s basically the same as the CoSTUME NATIONAL Scent, but it has that masculine touch that only the woody influence of sandalwood can give (mixed with amber and crystal amber, I suppose). The patchouli adds a bit more intensity (now I understand the difference). I’d have to repeat what I said for the CoSTUME NATIONAL Scent: “I imagine (almost like recreating a sexy and glamorous Penthouse or Playboy video) a sensual executive, in high heels, a skirt slightly above the knees, “intellectual glasses”, sitting with legs crossed, acting artificially to seduce the boss or the client being attended to…!”. Would Monica Bellucci wear this fragrance?… Supreme Italian quality. Refined beyond measure.
In this ‘Intense,’ which is a bit more potent than the ‘Scent’ on its own but not by much, the hibiscus stands out more, and the amber even more so… the patchouli does its thing without being too overpowering… it’s also a tiny bit sweeter. I’d say the ‘Scent’ is for daytime and the ‘Scent Intense’ for nighttime… same for hot or cold weather (just for those who apply such criteria). For my part, I consider both to be splendid 😀 and I like them a lot for any time or weather. It’s sensual, refined (as Shiseido rightly said), and very rich… If you feel comfortable with your fragrance, you’ll certainly project a more attractive energy, which might capture the attention, taste, and imagination of more than one person 😉 I love these CNs, I can’t wait to try the rest 😀

From the very first moment, it reminded me a lot of L’Instant Pour Homme; now I see they share quite a few notes in the pyramid. Perhaps it’s a bit denser and darker without the anise and citrus. It performs well.
Mamma mia, what a marvel is this? It’s impossible to describe because it doesn’t resemble anything and is blended perfectly. It smells sweet but not like vanilla or tonka, rather like a smear of honeyed resin with flowers and spices. It’s sweet without being sweet, floral without being floral, spicy without being spicy… Tremendously sexy, evocative, warm, spicy, and perfectly unisex. Incredible. I don’t know how I didn’t know it before, but if you can grab a bottle of this juice from the gods. That said, beware of fakes.

There are both lights and shadows in this Scent Intense, tested on an 8ml decant. The opening is brutal: bergamot and cardamom at full blast, a powerful and very personal start. After 10 minutes, the floral notes bloom, mixed with resins, amber, and frankincense; it’s exquisite and reminds me of Amouage’s DNA, with that characteristic Omani incense. Later, around the one-hour mark, patchouli enters with a soft leather note, giving it a green, earthy vibe reminiscent of Amouage’s Epic Man. Up to this point, it’s a solid 10: powerful, complex, and charming. But at the four-hour mark comes the shadow: after an incredible projection, it drops sharply and doesn’t last past five hours. It sits between 4 and 5 hours, which is frustrating for a niche that was perfect until then. I’d discard it for now, though I’ll give it another try. I see it as unisex, leaning masculine, best for under 20 degrees, day or night. Without the duration issue, I’d rate it a 9, but with this, I’m settling on 7.5.
