Slow Explosions starts with a powerful apple, saffron, and rose over a fine leather. It smells fairly linear, with few nuances and a synthetic edge. It lasts well on the skin but falls a bit short on projection. Still, it’s noticeable. The apple and rose combination makes it sound a bit feminine to me. Josh Meyer says there’s no real apple, but he intended to recreate it and does so, as it’s the note that grabs my attention the most. The issue is that the overall blend smells unnatural and very undefined. For me, the scent doesn’t attract me whatsoever.
Slow Explosions kicks off with a potent apple, saffron, and rose over a subtle leather. It smells quite linear, with few nuances and a somewhat artificial vibe. The longevity on skin is good, but I think it fails on projection. Still, it’s noticeable. The apple-rose blend gives it a slightly feminine touch. Josh Meyer clarifies that there’s no real apple, but he did aim to recreate it and succeeds; for me, it’s the dominant scent. The problem is that the overall result smells unnatural and undefined. Personally, I’m not attracted to the scent at all.
I’d been dying to try this for a while; the story fascinated me, but my fear of the notes held me back—I’m not a fan of leather or rose. I managed to get a decant, and once I smelled it, my mind was blown. It’s exactly what you look for in a niche fragrance: opens with prominent, burnt, smoky leather, yet blended with multiple elements at once, as if you’re surrounded by spices; the apple note stands out and adds a slightly sweet touch. It’s creamy and dense; the rose is there but not the star. Honestly, I can’t think of a perfect occasion to wear it, but as an olfactory experience, it blew my mind—it’s a great composition.
