Shadid is Arabic and means ‘strong,’ and this perfume lives up to the name without shouting but by commanding respect. Andy Tauer crafts it as dense and enveloping at first, like an animalic, resinous cloud, before settling into something intimate and reflective on the skin. The resinous, ambered base warms up and turns sweet without being cloying; on my skin, the ambergris gradually emerges—pungent, salty, and carnal. Some detect oud in it due to that earthy, balsamic, almost dirty note characteristic of natural ambergris. The balance shifts depending on the day: sometimes it’s sweet and vanilla-forward, reminiscent of Babycat or Rosendo Mateu 5, and other times it’s a wild beast, close to Perris Monte Carlo’s Oud Imperial. It’s not for every occasion, but rather for cold weather or moments of confidence and elegance. It’s a special, personality-driven fragrance made to be understood, not to impress. The 20th-anniversary commemorative bottle from Tauer is classic, though I’d have preferred something more extravagant; still, the perfume speaks for itself without needing extra packaging. A complex, spiritual, and sensual creation.

Resinous Nagarmota opening, the house’s signature. As it dries, soft creamy woods with a rich vanilla touch. The downside: it’s faint. Sillage and projection are minimal; after three hours, I barely notice it close to the skin. Maybe it needs more maceration, it’s brand new. I’ll wait a bit and let you know.

It sounds like L’Oudh but sweeter, with amber undertones; the woods, spices, and especially the vanilla really shine. It’s not bad, but I feel this release ends up in no-man’s-land, failing to reach the level of Tauer’s classics.

“Shadid” means strong and intense, and the perfume delivers without shouting, commanding respect from the very first second. Andy Tauer creates a dense, enveloping cloud of animalic notes and amber resins. Then it retreats into an intimate, reflective journey where the resinous and amber facets take center stage, warm and sweet but not cloying. On my skin, ambergris gradually emerges: sharp, salty, and carnal. Some friends thought they detected oud, and I’m not surprised: it has that earthy, almost dirty quality of natural ambergris. The balance shifts depending on the day; sometimes it’s sweet and vanilla-forward (like Babycat or Rosendo Mateu 5), other times wild and beastly (close to Oud Imperial). It’s not for every day, it has an aura of being special, with personality and pride. Ideal for cold climates or moments of confidence and elegance. Shadid doesn’t seek to impress, but to be understood. The commemorative 20th-anniversary bottle is classic, though I would have preferred something more extravagant. The perfume, however, speaks for itself: complex, spiritual, and sensual.
