I tried this new Amouage fragrance today. It’s surprising because you don’t expect such a sharp citrus from this house. It opens with an intense, rich lemon and lots of black pepper giving it a spicy kick, then becomes very smoky on the skin thanks to the frankincense. The issue is that it offers nothing new. As soon as you apply it, you think, ‘I’ve heard this before.’ For me, it’s very similar to Hermes’ Eau de Citron Noir and Penhaligon’s Racquets. This isn’t what you expect from Amouage. Scent: 6, Sillage: 6, Longevity: 8, Price: 2.
I love perfumes because they tell stories, remind us of moments, and transport us to another time. This one does none of that. It’s a sharp, sour lemon peel that’s been sitting on a fire for hours—smoky and overwhelming. Like you spent the whole day by a bonfire and ate nothing but lemons. That’s my take. I also dislike the incense this house uses; it tends to ruin well-rounded compositions with this annoying churchy smoke scent that lingers everywhere. I agree with the previous review: for a perfume that offers nothing new and costs what it does, this is almost an insult. That said, it doesn’t really remind me of Citron Noir. The vibe is similar, but I think Hermes’ version is much better balanced. Still, this fits the style, as nothing new is ever truly new under the sun. The only positive is that it’s incredibly long-lasting! I have no idea how they do it since citrus usually fades in minutes, but this is super potent!
I like perfumes that tell a story and transport me… this one doesn’t do any of that. It’s a sharp, sour lemon peel, as if left baking in the sun for hours. Smoky lemon. Like you spent the day at a campfire eating lemons left and right. That’s my take. I don’t like this house’s incense; they tend to ruin well-rounded compositions with that annoying, invasive church smoke scent. I agree with the previous reviewer: for a perfume that offers nothing new and costs what it does, serving up this is almost an insult. That said, personally, it doesn’t remind me much of Citron Noir. The vibe is similar, but the Hermes is better balanced. Still, this isn’t anything new under the sun. The positive is that it’s incredibly long-lasting. I have no idea how they do it, since citrus usually fades in a breath, but this is super potent.
It smells very much like Hermes’ Eau de Citron Noir. Since I use the Hermes one often, I initially thought they were identical upon trying the Amouage version. I noticed only minimal differences, almost like different batches of the same perfume. Too bad I only tested it for a minute before getting distracted and missing its evolution. If it doesn’t develop further, I’d prefer the Hermes for its performance. For me, the price isn’t justified unless there’s a subtle difference that captivates me, which isn’t the case here. Still, a great purchase—an incredible and fascinating citrus. I recommend it.
I love this scent: a powerful, high-quality citrus with a hint of pepper and a deep, elegant incense. Ideal for a wedding on a sunny spring day. It smells great and lasts a long time.
I absolutely love this scent: a powerful, high-quality citrus note with a hint of pepper and a deep, elegant incense. Perfect for a wedding on a sunny spring day. It smells great and lasts a long time.
To me, this is the jewel of Amouage. The moment I smell it, childhood memories flood back instantly. Rating: 10. It smells completely different from everything else, and watch out, it has nothing to do with Hermes’ Eau de Citron.
First impressions: Unisex aroma with a masculine tendency. I agree with others that it’s a bitter-smoky citrus, but that doesn’t make it bad; rather, it’s more niche or acquired taste. It’s a potent, dense citrus with sillage that can compete in density with scents from its polar opposites despite the ‘bad reputation’ of citrus. It reminds me of Hermès and a bit of Dior Homme Cologne, but with more longevity, less sweet due to the smokiness. I see it as unisex but with a clear masculine trend, perhaps for men over 25, and versatile in temperatures above 20°C. Scent: 9/10 (there’s bias, I like citrus). Longevity: 7.5/10, still evaluating. Sillage: easily over a meter and a half. Originality: that’s its weakest point, it’s not very original. Price: very expensive in retail; if you can get it for under $250, maybe it’s a good deal.
For me, this is the crown jewel of Amouage. The moment I smelled it, childhood memories flooded back instantly. A solid 10/10. It smells completely unique, and let me be clear: it has nothing to do with Hermes’ Eau de Citron.
Incredible smoky citrus aroma. On my skin, it lasts 9-10 hours, making it unique and unforgettable. It’s a pleasure to see fragrances in this category perform so well. To me, it leans more masculine than unisex, perfect for warm and temperate climates. Absolutely incredible, 10/10.
Incredible smoky citrus aroma. On my skin, it lasts (9-10h), it’s unique and very memorable. It’s truly a pleasure that fragrances of this type can perform like this. In my opinion, it’s much more masculine than unisex, works well in warm and temperate climates. Incredible, 10/10.
Very potent opening of lime and smoky lemon. After half an hour, only the incense, elemi, and woods remain, while the citrus notes fade to almost nothing. Projection is medium-high, lasting over 4 hours after the initial burst and more than 8 hours on skin. In terms of performance, this is the best there is for citrus. The scent: if you love smoke and incense, this is one of the best. Anyway, I’m blown away!!!!
Very potent opening of lime and smoky lemon. After half an hour, it settles into incense, eleni, and woods, with the citrus becoming very weak. Projection is medium-high, longevity exceeds 4 hours minimum at the half-hour mark and goes over 8 on skin. In performance, it’s the best there is for citrus. Scent: if you like smoke and incense, it’s one of the best. Anyway, I’m blown away!!!!
Oh my god, 370 euros. This is getting out of hand worryingly. I hoped my first impression was bad because, wow, it really was. We’d be in trouble… It even had an oily nuance I didn’t like. A piercing citrus that didn’t seem very natural… and incense molecules and stuff like iso e super to make it last, which, by the way, doesn’t last forever. Shocking overpricing. That’s my first impression, haha.
Sadly, it’s the first Amouage I’ve tried, and I really don’t like it. I like the citrus part and the vetiver, woody… up to that point, it’s fine. The price is okay, and the performance has no complaints. But from the start, the resinous and smoky part overwhelms me. I reject it. It gives me the same feeling as The Excelsior Bouquet by Atkinsons. No, thanks. We’re getting off this ship. Edit: the dry-down is better, it becomes more pleasant, but still, it’s not my style.
My fellow reviewers’ descriptions summarize the perfume well: citrus, smoke, and resins. In performance, it maintains Amouage’s tradition of long-lasting presence. Plus, Search has the virtue of being wearable year-round: in the cold, the resins and smoke wrap around you; in the heat, the all-day-lasting citrus saves you. It’s very versatile. From my point of view, Amouage could have saved this, as it doesn’t add anything to its collection, though they certainly needed a citrus. But I’m not convinced by citrus with smoky resins—it’s a matter of taste. Lately, aside from Overture and some Opus recreations, they haven’t hit the mark much in maintaining their line. But, well, that’s my opinion. Still, Amouage remains my favorite house.
A bright fragrance, perhaps less ambitious than the others from the house, but it’s the one with the most mass acceptance without losing Amouage’s essence in quality and elegance. It’s citrusy, bitter, with a powerful resinous base. After ten minutes, you notice the woody, earthy base with that smoky touch people compare it to Burning Barbershop by DS&Durga or Vert Fougere by Floris. Its evolution is quite linear; after four hours, on my skin, the vetiver and resines come to the front while the citrus recedes. I see it as versatile, but I prefer it in warm seasons. In summary: I like it, it’s elegant, has great sillage and projection. Lasts about 10 hours. Great for dressing up, semi-formal occasions. Masculine but definitely unisex. Scent: 8/10, Sillage: 9/10, Projection: 9/10, Longevity: 8.5/10.
If you like this, you have to try Tertia Sensu’s Morning Breath: it’s more potent and costs 15 times less.
Does this happen to you? Except for Amouage Man Reflection, I don’t see anything from Amouage Man for summer. It smells fresh at first, but once the citrus fades, the heavy, resinous bases return, and here in our haze, they suffocate you. Maybe it’s cultural, but for a Spaniard, I just don’t see these scents working in summer.
I wonder if this happens to you too, but except for Reflection Man, I can’t see any other Amouage Homme perfume for summer… This one is fresh, but once the citrus fades, the heavy, resinous base notes return, which suffocate you in the summer—at least here, where it’s very hot. Maybe it’s cultural, but for a Spaniard, I just don’t see these scents working in summer.
I’d like to add to what others have said: this perfume has no performance flaws, but if you can’t handle the smoky, sharp lemon, think twice. It’s a very personal taste; that strong acidity dominates the first two hours. Then it changes and becomes more pleasant, with resinous and woody notes reminiscent of Boss Bottled Elixir. Ideal for spring and autumn; in summer, if it’s over 33 degrees, it might overwhelm you. As I always say, don’t just trust the notes—test it on your skin before spending on niche.
