  • In Santal Musc, the sandalwood is noticeable right from the first spray. After 10-15 minutes, I catch a hint of ylang-ylang, but then those flowers blend seamlessly with the woods and musk. Cardamomo is felt at the start, well-integrated with the sandalwood, though it eventually loses its identity. As it settles, the musk takes center stage, yet the sandalwood keeps the rhythm: it’s dry but becomes creamy thanks to the musk. After 30 minutes, I confirm it’s a pure woody scent, with no predominant floral or spicy notes. It’s a soft woody fragrance because the musk softens the sandalwood profile, which on its own would be dry and imposing. Its evolution follows that woody line, rounded by the musk that removes the sandalwood’s astringency. It feels like it varies depending on the climate and season. After several hours, a subtle citrus note emerges alongside the woods, possibly the cardamomo returning. And two hours later, the final sandalwood reminds me of the dry-down of Oscent Black by Alexandre J…

  • I was looking for something cheaper than Tom Ford’s Santal Blush and found this gem from Narciso Rodríguez, a brand I previously thought was overrated. Maybe the Oriental Musc line will change my mind. Santal Musc starts with a very potent spicy cardamom, but within 15 minutes it transforms into a soft, floral sandalwood with a sweet, resinous touch that smells like Veet hair removal strips. Once it dries down, the musk takes over, creating an incredibly sexy and intoxicating blend for anyone who loves woods. It projects well without being aggressive and lasts all day. It resembles Santal Blush—it’s woody, spicy, and has a cold-weather vibe with a delicate trail. However, it’s more feminine and complex because the spices don’t dominate as much; the musk sweetens the sandalwood, making it kinder. Definitely, if you like woods, give it a try. Edit 11/30/21: I bought it during the Black Friday super sale. So delicious! It’s now my signature scent. However, at a full price of around €180, the packaging could be better. The box is more ostentatious than the basic version but isn’t very secure; the bottle doesn’t sit well in the base. The cap isn’t quite tight either, though it doesn’t fall off. I know scent is what matters, but if they’re selling ‘luxury,’ even the cellophane should be perfect. Pleasant: 10/10 Interesting: 8/10 Versatile: 8/10 Original: 7/10

  • I was looking for something more affordable than Tom Ford’s Santal Blush and stumbled upon this gem by Narciso Rodríguez, a brand that had disappointed me so far and seemed overrated. Maybe the Oriental Musc collection will change my mind. Santal Musc opens with a very potent spicy cardamomo, but after fifteen minutes, it’s already a soft sandalwood, slightly floral, with a sweet and resinous touch that smells a bit like Veet hair removal strips. As it dries down, the musk takes over, creating an incredibly sexy and intoxicating blend for anyone who loves woods. The projection is good without being invasive and lasts all day. It has similarities with Santal Blush, of course, since it’s woody, spicy, and suited for cold climates, with a delicate trail. However, it’s more feminine and complex because the spices don’t dominate as much, and the musk sweetens the sandalwood, making it more approachable. Definitely worth it if you like woods. Update 30/11/21: I grabbed it on a super deal during Black Friday. What a delight! It has become my new favorite. That said, I have to say that for an 180€ bottle, the packaging could be better. Although the box is more luxurious than the basic line, it’s not very secure. The perfume doesn’t sit well in the base, and the cap isn’t firm either; while it doesn’t fall off, it moves around a bit. I know these are irrelevant details compared to the scent, but if they sell it as “luxury,” I expect even the cellophane to be perfect. Pleasant: 10/10 Interesting: 8/10 Versatile: 8/10 Original: 7/10
