I might like it less than the regular version. It loses freshness to boost the patchouli and woods, resulting in a more serious vibe. The performance is similar, but I’d also like to try the light version.
The undisputed king of soap. It’s here, fifteen years later, but lightyears ahead in intensity. Society has changed (for the worse), and this gem has disappeared in an aberrant way, though luckily the original is still available, albeit harder to find. Rive Gauche pour Homme Intense is what every ‘intense’ fragrance should be: not a reinterpretation or nonsense, but pure intensity without straying from the original. It smells clearly like Rive Gauche, and choosing one over the other is just a matter of taste. This fragrance intensifies the key elements: anise, lavender, geranium, and woods. It gains in soapy quality, making you feel like you just stepped out of the shower, and it’s the best of the three. What it loses compared to the original are the fresh touches, the fern notes of the nineties, and the radiance. It has more body, packaging, and superlative longevity (the first version wasn’t bad, but this one plays in the champions’ league). The projection is slightly better, but not by much. Easy to classify: Rive Gauche for everyday wear and Intense for special occasions. However, I would play it the other way around. Since Intense lasts many hours projecting those soap bubbles, it’s perfect to put on in the morning and wear all day. Excellent quality, smells natural and complex, and it’s a scent you won’t find on the street nowadays. Anyway: glorious.
I blind-tested this with a sample from my buddy @uhm. At first, the patchouli and lavender are very noticeable, especially the patchouli. I didn’t detect any anise or bergamot on my skin, though the sample hinted at a very subtle citrus touch. Over time, it becomes more woody, mossy, and damp, with that classic soapy base. The woods and vetiver are present, with the vetiver being quite noticeable. Eventually, the earthy notes fade in intensity, leaving a soapy scent that clings closely to the skin. The performance isn’t as potent as others claim; while it’s noticeable at first, by the end of the day it fades and stays close to the skin. It lasts a decent amount of time, but it’s not a powerhouse. It’s ideal for any weather except extreme heat. In my opinion, these barbershop fougères just aren’t my thing. They have quality and distinct natural notes, but personally, they bore me and don’t attract me at all. Good perfume, just not for me.
