  • The new ‘La Collection’ version of Rive Gauche steps in after L’Oréal discontinued the original. It keeps the charm of its predecessor, just a bit more basic but with excellent performance. It leans closer to ‘Rive Gauche Intense’ than the original. It’s the only case in the men’s line that hasn’t gotten worse with the reformulation; in fact, it’s come out looking better. Moderate longevity and sillage, even better than before.

  • Absolutely disappointed… This is how I feel about L’Oréal. I don’t understand how they could pull this off. When they switched up the La Collection bottles, I knew a reformulation was coming. It happened. But I never imagined they’d wipe out Nu, nor that it would signal the end of Rive Gauche. I hate the way they’re ruining designer perfumery: more expensive scents with less soul and skewed ingredients. It’s already an abuse to charge €110 for an 80ml bottle when the 125ml version used to cost half that. I hope the industry changes because it’s shameful to see what they’ve been doing for over a decade. This is a tribute to an exquisite fragrance that they’ve cruelly taken away. Let’s see what’s next.

  • Hearing about this perfume, I knew it was ‘one of mine’. I’d never smelled it, and though I was searching everywhere, I couldn’t find it. Until, by chance, while paying for another item at a quirky store, I spotted it there, shyly staring back at me on the shelf. I almost rubbed my eyes. I went to try it, and the rest is history. When you suspect something will be good and then confirm it, it’s wonderful. A sophisticated, soapy fougère with that barbershop touch that radiates class and gentlemanliness. Some smell like a responsible dad or grandpa, and I, at 35, can’t aspire to smell better with this. It’s about smelling it and smiling. I bought a backup bottle, and every time I see it in a store, I’ll buy it again. I don’t want to go a day without being able to indulge in this craving. It’s an elixir of old-school masculinity.

The name Rive Gauche pays homage to the Left Bank of the Seine, that romantic, chic, and bohemian 20th-century Paris filled with cafés and artists. Two sprays and you get it: this isn’t just a perfume, it’s a mood, confidence, and subtle sensuality that screams luxury and self-care. If you’re looking for the scent of a well-done shave, with warm shaving cream and aftershave, this is it. It’s a fresh, soapy fougère that turns creamy and addictive as it dries, featuring classic patchouli blended brilliantly with lavender, oakmoss, and geranium. It’s a safe haven between elegance and beauty, perfect for romantic dates. Very persistent and versatile. Curiously, Tom Ford poured his soul into Beau de Jour. Unfortunately discontinued, why? Because of flanker 35 or the Y series that doesn’t reach your ankle? If you find it, dive headfirst into this aromatic sea. An absolute masterpiece.
