I stopped by Lidl on Wednesday to check out the deals, from screwdrivers to chandeliers, hoping to snag a perfume they claim is the best from ADG (though I couldn’t find it). In the end, I settled for a frying pan and an LED bulb, knowing I’d have to wait at least twenty minutes at the register. It’s obvious Lidl cuts staff, but… twenty wonderful minutes! The blonde cashier, with endless blue eyes and perfectly proportioned features. No makeup, a hairpin in her hair, yet her skin glowed; even her early wrinkles seemed to vanish in perfect harmony. I felt that same sensation you get when gazing at a work of art… so much beauty left me disoriented, almost stunned. While waiting, I imagined dim candlelight, Chris de Burgh on the record player, and her dancing with me. When my turn came, her gaze met mine, and I realized it was a great idea to spritz six shots of Orlov’s Red Shield before entering. After a polite greeting and a normal moment of silence before speaking to a stranger, she asked what perfume I was wearing. And right then, I felt an irresistible urge to skip the queue, grab a chair, and explain that this perfume has two hearts beating over a fine leather sofa. The first minutes of the opening are characterized by an explosion of iris with its typical powdery, lipstick scent. The spicy-sweet honey-like note is enjoyed greatly on a cozy blanket scented with amber and vanilla, accompanied by freesia, leather, and an iris that after the first half hour becomes almost transparent, with a tiny salty touch. This salty, floral-sweet ambivalence is unique and, in my opinion, very peculiar; it creates an elegant fragrance that is nostalgic and tender all at once, exuding refinement. I paid and left happy with my new frying pan, but I’ll definitely return when the line is longer, maybe before Christmas. Thanks Lidl and thanks Velensita for providing the sample.
