  Fendi, Chanel, Lauder… nothing compares; this is pure Avon. In 1992/93, they launched the French Parfums Creatifs collection with six fragrances, the first three being the most famous. One of them, Perle Noire. There’s no doubt about the aromatic richness of certain Avon compositions (pre-2000). Companies like Avon are often underestimated; for years, they sold quality perfumes at rational prices, quietly competing with any top brand of the era. Perle Noire is a prime example where quality rivals Chanel or Fendi. It’s that classic 80s floral-oriental/spiced scent, centered on rose and carnation, undoubtedly Avon’s answer to the 78 Cinnabar, the 1984 Coco, or the 1987 Fendi. The rose here is delicious, ambered, and intense, with hints of soft spices and a prominent yet non-overpowering clove. The carnation blends perfectly with the rose in a smoky, resinous symbiosis, subtly woody, both flowers boldly declared without interference. Since it doesn’t have as many notes as others in its style, you can appreciate its entire composition. What stands out most is the quality of its notes and how well-orchestrated it is. It lasts forever, so apply it carefully; over time, it becomes more powdery. A true vintage gem.
