  • Louis XV: Opens with a sweet citrus burst of mandarin and a hint of pepper. Then it blooms with carnation, iris, and a soft rose over a clove base (no orchid). As it dries down, talc, musk, and a thread of honey emerge—no wood or rice notes. It projects for 1–2 hours with a 5–6 hour skin trail. While it shares DNA with Royal Oeillet, the floral-clove balance and the powdery-honey base work better here, setting it apart from its sibling. It shines more in the heat, where the flowers and clove really come alive.

  • Louis XV de Oeillet: Starts with sweet mandarin citrus and a touch of pepper. Quickly shifts into a floral accord of carnation, iris, and soft rose over a clove foundation (no orchid). The dry down reveals talc, musk, and a whisper of honey—no rice or wood. Lasts 1–2 hours projecting and 5–6 on skin. Though it shares genetics with its sister Royal Oeillet, the floral-clove balance and that powdery-honey base are excellent, making it far superior to the other version. It really pops in the heat, where the flowers and clove stand out.

Oriza Legrand fragrances are a historical homage to a house with roots dating back to 1720. Oeillet Louis XV, the carnation of Louis XV, is no exception. It’s brilliantly built around a carnation with a powdery base and hints of rose water. If the carnation had a color, it would be pink. You can almost imagine Louis XV using makeup powder scented with this. The perfume is tender and innocent, with a sunny touch, perhaps thanks to the mandarin. But beware, the carnation can be very masculine and carnal, and here it oscillates between tenderness and that lustful facet that a well-crafted flower brings. There’s also a sweetness reminiscent of violet candies, an undeclared but present flower. It’s a spring perfume with moderate projection, nothing dense, that accompanies you all day.
