Descripción

Monsieur Leonard by Leonard is an aromatic woody fragrance for men. Launched in 1992, this composition was created by perfumer Ron Winnegrad. The olfactory pyramid unfolds with top notes of lavender, helichrysum, coriander, and basil; a heart of fern, valley lily, cloves, and geranium; and a warm, persistent base of oakmoss, patchouli, tonka bean, and vanilla.

It starts strong with lavender and other herbs, but that lavender note sounded old-fashioned and dated to me. Also, there are no fruity notes. Midway through, I detected some geranium and clove. Honestly, the base is almost nothing; it fades way too quickly. Maybe a very soft patchouli with a musky sensation, though I wouldn’t call it that. It doesn’t last more than 6 hours and the sillage is low. It’s one of the least impressive scents I’ve encountered—I can’t recommend it at all: zero personality. I’d say it’s for older men, intermediate seasons, and daily use. Apparently, it’s discontinued, and the only draw for collectors is that the miniature comes with a keychain that holds the cap.

One of the best fragrances I’ve ever tried… truly unique, there’s no other like it. Extremely elegant, the kind of scent a distinguished, cultured gentleman would wear. Soft yet with a nice trail, a very sophisticated aroma without equal. I loved it so much that every time I bought it (I think it’s no longer available in Chile, what a shame), I’d apply it after my shower and go straight to bed. It was my go-to fragrance for a long time.

  • In 1994, my dad brought this fragrance home from Paris along with a few others. At first, I didn’t pay much attention, but over time it slowly made its way into my heart until I really loved it. I remember it as green and spicy, neither too fresh nor too dark—perfect for everyday wear. It wasn’t Armani Code, but it wasn’t that far off either. These are scents we won’t be smelling again.
