Darkbeat takes me on a time-travel journey to savor this Leonard Pour Homme. A refined, high-quality proposal that few houses offer today at this price point. Deeply 80s, ideal for cool-to-cold climates; at first, I notice some alcohol, fresh, slightly citrusy but predominantly herbaceous and finely spiced, typical of that era. Then it turns spicier, darker, and smokier. Longevity is medium-high with a noticeable trail that’s sharp and enveloping for the first hour. It falls into the category of dark, serious masculine scents that transport you far back in time—to when, in October, I’d walk through the woods near my grandparents’ house with my walkman, feeling the October chill, running over leaves in rubber boots. The sensation of pure air, the smell of wood, mushrooms, damp grass, moss, and chestnuts. It’s incredible how scents can revive something that seemed lost in the mists of time.
An excellent men’s fragrance; I was amazed not to know the brand better. Hard to find—I have a late-80s vintage. It follows the same line as Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme, but floral instead of rose and leather; Leonard opts for a more animalistic leather with lots of carnation. The moss is noticeable, along with lavender, cinnamon, and basil that provide support. The patchouli is sweet, soft, and powdery. The animal note really stands out, so well-crafted that it enriches the whole composition; the castoreum is similar to Paloma Picasso (1984). Longevity is very good and the quality is perfect; I sense it as animalistic, smoky, and sweet, with that vintage moss touch. I like it more than Van Cleef’s. For lovers of 80s floral leathers, Leonard Pour Homme is worth it.
Hard, wild, and unyielding, leaving no room for indulgence; it goes straight for the Jungian world. I resist its imagery and notes, yet it’s gorgeous and earns its keep 1000%: this perfume is art.
