Wow! Smoky sandalwood resting on a bed of old moss. But I think it’s more of a man’s scent… it’s warm, sexy, and addictive… I’d definitely love for my man to smell like this. It’s a wonderful perfume. I haven’t smelled anything like this in years. It’s vintage, unique, strong, and full of character.
Sandalwood is the star of this fragrance, without overpowering the accompanying notes, which are in harmony from the start to the dry down. I can detect a sweet but subtle peach note, cinnamon, and a fine oud that makes wearing this fragrance very pleasant. It has a spiritual touch.
I have a love-it-hate-it relationship with this perfume. I like it, but I just don’t feel like it’s me. Plus, it’s quite unisex. It’s very similar to Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Noir.
Impressive. It exudes class and power. It’s very unisex, and the idea that all women must smell like flowers is pretty outdated. It’s pure charm and passion. From the wild, highly aromatic top notes, through the complex middle, to the oud and sandalwood finish. Perfume as art.

Guerlain’s luxury line is very seductive and of surprising quality. After acquiring Derby de Les Parisiens (good remake, it approaches the original 70%) and trying the excellent Oud Essentiel, I can now approach Santal Royal for the first time. Upon smelling it, it’s evident that the great maisons put effort and creativity here, leaving the basic line as an entry-level option. A sign of the times changing. Here, the classic rose-oud combo acquires another dimension, creating an insidious and almost ruthless proposal that breaks hearts. The opening relies more on oud and leather with a pleasant touch of cinnamon spices. Although it’s there, sandalwood isn’t the main attraction at first; it’s more of a supporting player. The oud isn’t dirty or penetrating, but perfectly embedded, soft and fragrant, combined with one of the creamiest sandalwoods I’ve heard, something that probably only Guerlain and a few others can create. Even the rose, darker and more tempting, is buttery and harmonizes wonderfully. As it evolves, Santal Royal becomes drier and woodier; the leather and sandalwood emerge forming a top-tier trio with the oud. The projection is a work of sages; it doesn’t require many sprays, and too many would be an obstacle, just like its absolutely great longevity. Thierry Wasser and Guerlain create a dream unisex with magical attraction power, a dreamy and mysterious oriental perfect for nights and evening occasions. A new seducer born and trained by Guerlain’s great playboys, armed with oud, leather, roses, and sandalwood, extremely bright and capable of conquering hearts as rarely as I’ve experienced. Approved.
Appreciation: I don’t know, but I don’t like this perfume at all. The union of cinnamon and sandalwood kills me. I like strong and empowering perfumes, but this is complicated to wear. Suggestion: ask for a sample first. Climate: Winter. Longevity: 5/5. Trail: excellent, 5/5.
Impressive. It distills class and power. It’s very unisex; the idea that all women should smell like flowers is outdated. It’s pure charm and passion. From wild and aromatic notes, through a complex development with an oud and sandalwood touch. Perfume made into art.
I love it a lot. I tried it in duty-free in Tenerife and was amazed by almost all of this collection, highlighting Santal Royal and burning patchouli. Super elegant, with creamy sandalwood, slightly fruity, and somewhat dark. Luckily, I love this combination with oud. It’s not very projecting, but it has excellent longevity on skin. It’s in a fine line between commercial and niche, which is why I’ve tolerated and enjoyed it. I recommend it blindly if you’re looking for something with a dark touch but not too dark. Maybe this sandalwood is a bit common, but it seems quite standout. Approved.
What a delight! Guerlain has wonders and this is one of them. Elegant and it emanates class and quality. LV’s Ombre Nomade reminds me of this but it’s much more excessive and scandalous; this is similar but more refined and less loud. It’s spectacular!
Opulent fragrance with huge projection and trail. Oriental scent (without smelling Arabic), well-crafted sandalwood, the exact degree of sweetness, and a rich, pleasant oud for others. People always comment that it’s potent, it invades everything, smells like incense, and is overwhelming. It lasted me an entire party; even 12 hours later I still perceive it strongly, and it doesn’t cause olfactory fatigue; if you like it, it will dominate you, if not, it will overwhelm you. With a cool evening, you can wear it moderately with fewer sprays; when the body heats up, the scent is apothegmatic. EDIT: over time the leather takes on a lot of strength, very rich (reminds me of Ombre Nomade). So far my favorite. I miss it, the new version doesn’t replace its magic.
Sandalwood is the protagonist without overshadowing the accompanying notes, harmonious from the start to the dry down. I perceive the sweet but discreet apricot note, cinnamon, and a fine oud that makes wearing this fragrance very pleasant with a spiritual touch.
Verdict: I don’t know, but I absolutely hate this perfume. The combination of cinnamon and sandalwood kills me. I like strong, empowering perfumes, but this is hard for me to wear. Suggestion: Always ask for a sample first. Weather: Winter. Longevity: 5/5. Sillage: Excellent sillage, 5/5.
A beauty I found on sale and oh my god, how gorgeous! It projects very strongly and maintains all its notes throughout its evolution, varying intensity over time: prominent and sharp sandalwood accompanied by fruity peach, over a balsamic oud base (a bit animalic) with roses. It smells like class and money, it’s potent and long-lasting. Ideal for formal occasions and cold weather (not very versatile in heat); I doubt anyone else will smell exactly the same twice. Guerlain knows what they’re doing; superior niche quality compared to other exclusive houses.
I tried it when buying my summer edition and it blew my mind. The price was a bit of a deterrent, but I felt it was worth it. A year later, luckily I managed to get this last presentation because the new batch no longer has that charm I loved in the scent and longevity.
