The L’Homme line from YSL has gone through several reformulations and flankers, and this year they’re releasing their new Eau de Parfum version; an interesting addition. It’s composed of bitter orange and cognac with woody notes. Despite its strong notes, its trail is soft (similar to the old Intense). You can appreciate the quality of its ingredients. However, it lacks performance, with mediocre longevity (to give you an idea, Zara colognes last longer). It’s enchanting for intimate encounters in moderate climates (spring and autumn), but if you want to make an impression or not rely on reapplication, this perfume isn’t for you.
L’Homme Eau de Parfum is a woody, aromatic, and spicy fragrance. The opening is slightly fresh, with citrus and a cognac or oak barrel accord. A few minutes later, it becomes more woody and aromatic, with a pleasant floral note of lavender and geranium, and you can perceive the DNA of the original: a base of tonka and amber that makes the line recognizable, plus spices like cardamom and woods like oak and cedar. Although it’s an EDP, the longevity barely improves over the EDT, lasting between 6 and 7 hours with a scent close to the skin. It’s versatile, suitable for any season, daily use, office, outings, etc. The aroma is very pleasant. If you like the EDT, it’s a safe blind buy. I expected more longevity, but the scent doesn’t disappoint, so I hope to buy it soon.
Well, I don’t know, I guess I have a different skin, but in terms of performance, it doesn’t give me any trouble. The Zara ones don’t last on me at all, and this one sticks around for 6 hours and is still detectable close to the skin.
Summary of my experience: A generally sweet wood with an aromatic (not citrusy) orange opening. As it dries, it becomes something like a woody vanilla. Low projection, though not zero, making it ideal for daily wear without being overpowering. The longevity is quite poor on my skin; after 4 hours, there’s no trace left. Perfect for everyday use in cold climates or formal events; it feels elegant, suitable for any season, day or night (if you don’t want to draw attention). Very good sillage and dry-down; in my opinion, it’s the best I’ve smelled, but due to the longevity, it feels too expensive for daily use. If it weren’t for that, it would be a future purchase. I might buy it, but with better longevity, I’d think less about it.
Mmm, it came out much warmer than I expected. Ultimately, it’s a wood with vanilla and caramel notes, reminding me of perfumes like Khamrah, Coral Fantasy, and SWT EDT. It’s intriguing, but not something I’d buy. Definitely a cold-weather scent.
