I wasn’t expecting much since leather and oud usually don’t agree with my skin, but this fragrance caught me off guard. The bottle is pretty, but it’s deceiving: while it has some bright, fruity notes, it’s actually sexy with a dark undertone. It opens with an explosion of citrus and passion fruit, like freshly squeezed juice—a note I absolutely love. After fifteen minutes, those citrus notes wrap around amber and then settle into a subtle, wearable leather. Once dry, it’s unisex, though I see it as more feminine in the opening. It lasts over six hours with strong projection and sillage; people definitely notice it. It’s wonderful, though I think it suits spring and autumn better; I could see it for a summer dinner, but not in the heat.
It smells less animalic or medicinal to me than the Azure by French Avenue (which to me is closer to the original). This Hurriya, on the other hand, has a much friendlier character as it develops, nothing like its opening. Once dry, the amber and fruity side stands out, with that slightly acidic passion fruit sitting on top of a friendly animalic oud base, paired with a somewhat familiar leather. Without a doubt, a wonderful option for fresh spring nights or autumn evenings.
