  Iris in the shadows: darkened iris with resinous undertones. Nothing like the clean iris of Prada. If anything, it’s closer to the treatment of Dior Homme’s Orris by Demachy, but the makeup sensations fade away here; there’s no pear or rose, just myrrh and elemi. Powdery? Yes, it retains the signature iris identity, but this Giardino doesn’t radiate light, nor is it earthy—it’s more chocolatey. On cold days, it warms you up and feels comforting with its presence. Based on this, my nose and skin don’t see it as redundant with Dior Homme, so I added a small bottle to my collection. By the way, the crystal packaging is beautiful, vintage, and pays homage to old apothecary bottles. The simple yet lovely box compensates for the price gap with a cloth pouch to protect it. Great work by Farmacia della Santissima Annunziata, open in Florence for five centuries, which, with its new ownership, has stepped into the niche perfumery market. I like this Giardino. I like it a lot. It lets me rotate with my beloved Dior Homme Intense/Parfum and Narciso For Him EDP. A must-try if you like iris. Said and done.

  Tested it at the central Florence boutique of this wonderful house and it smelled amazing. It’s a sandalwood vanilla with myrrh that gives it a mystical, slightly darker vibe. It has hints of Dior’s Bois d’Argent and Van Haren, and if you know the scent of elemi resin, it’s quite noticeable here—it’s a sweet, resinous, and incredibly rich smell. Might pick up a bottle before or after.
