Descripción

Envy by Gucci is a green floral fragrance for women. Launched in 1997, this composition was created by perfumer Maurice Roucel. The top notes unfold with bergamot, freesia, pineapple, magnolia, and peach; the heart reveals lily of the valley, hyacinth, jasmine, iris, violet, and rose; while the base notes settle on oakmoss, jasmine, cedar, musk, and sandalwood.

  • I’ve read very favorable comments on other sites, but no matter how much I try, I just don’t like how it smells on me; it smells like herbs, and I don’t detect any floral scent or much else. I’ll try it again to see if my opinion changes.

I love this perfume; I don’t wear it much, but it shows. It’s strong yet very personal, totally worth buying.

In Spain, this Envy for Women was discontinued about five years ago, along with the Envy for Men by Gucci.

  • Oops, I think my first review was about something discontinued 🙁 I found this by chance today and it has many qualities I like: personality, trail, fresh, feminine, floral, citrusy, luminous, creamy. The truth is, I never knew this one. Why? I don’t know, but now I have it 😀 If you see it, don’t hesitate to try it.

It’s a luxurious, sophisticated green floral, all the Gucci glamour (you couldn’t expect less). The floral notes are very unique and elegant, a very exclusive perfume. It doesn’t change its trail much throughout the day, projecting personality and great refinement. The best of Gucci for my taste, thanks.

  • Is it a green floral? I think ‘crushed floral’ fits it better 🙂 It’s one of the few florals where the hyacinth really stands out and I love it. It’s fine and elegant, hard to find nowadays. As a good work by M. Roucel, it has a particular subtlety and realism; wearing it is like smelling a delicate bouquet that wilts quickly if it’s hot or if you don’t add water. That’s why it’s better in cool (not cold) temperatures. The pineapple note is watery, fresh, and subtle, adding lightness to the base and trail. Besides the hyacinth, lily of the valley and soft moss stand out. I associate it with simple pleasures (good food with white wine, art, or landscapes), light colors, and silver jewelry. It’s understated, not intrusive, perfect for work and business, especially for women. When I wear it, I feel relaxed and focused. The body cream is good too… it lasts forever! If you have the cream, use it with the perfume; then you don’t have to reapply, and the scent lasts as if you just sprayed yourself.

  • One of my biggest perfume regrets. I was so determined to own it that when I saw a gift set at a drugstore (already knowing it was being discontinued in Spain), I didn’t hesitate for a second. Oh, innocent me! What a letdown. On my skin, the moss and cedar stood out, making it feel a bit masculine. I eventually kept it just so it wouldn’t take up space forever, but I don’t miss it.

  • Sophisticated, fresh, and sensual. I fell in love and haven’t been able to find it again :´(. It’s both citrusy and sweet, with woody trails. In my opinion, a real gem.

  • What a shame they discontinued it! It was my signature from 1997 to 2007. A truly unique essence; I don’t understand why it’s not coming back. The closest thing I found was Loewe’s El Agua de Ella. I’ll always miss it. Delicate, feminine, non-intrusive, just the right sweet-fresh-floral balance. Distinctive and elegant.

Gucci Envy marked such a beautiful and youthful era that sometimes I think it’s better it’s discontinued. I still have a small bottle, and when I open the cap, it invites me to a salon of beautiful memories… memories that alternate between my first jobs, first loves, first outings with friends, and first trips. The opening is beautiful, full of life, with a citrus touch that isn’t loud and with lots of elegance (because that’s always been the Gucci house), leading to a middle phase where we keep its green and impressive background but also get a beautiful, virginal bouquet of flowers scattered among fresh grass. When beauty has an iridescent green color, a green given by the sun, a green of a first afternoon in the shade in a park with the first big kisses, the first clear and unbreakable steps when someone takes your hand for the first time, that green of never-blurred gazes, that green will always be: Gucci Envy. The most elegant perfume I’ve ever worn, not because of its density but because of its pure green strength. Gucci is waking up always in that dream where flowers never wither and leaves never fall in an autumn… Gucci is passion.

  • What a beautiful find, such a different thing from current perfumes. When I smelled this perfume again, that magic happened where I thought: ‘I’ve heard this before.’ That part of the brain that connects scents to past experiences kicked in. This time, however, it didn’t find a match. Gucci Envy is, as its family indicates, a green floral. There’s no better way to describe it. It’s a soft breeze carrying the scent of tiny flowers sprinkled over a sea of fresh grass. Its trail and longevity are so good that you can spend hours strolling through that idyllic meadow it evokes in your mind. I used it again today and walked around all this cloudy morning as if it were sunny. It conveys so much serenity. Its trail is moderate-to-high and projects very well for hours. Its longevity is over 10 hours on my skin. It’s a perfume that will shine much more in spring than it does now and will probably be the first one I search for when that season blooms again. What a shame this gem is discontinued. Scent 9/10 Longevity 9/10 Sillage 9/10 Versatility 7/10 Packaging 6/10 Would I buy it again? Yes, although I don’t think it’s possible.

What luck to have worn Envy all day. It must be a floral way ahead of its time, when opulent chypres and orientals were giving way to new trends: 90s perfumes, ozonic, light florals, and super modern. On my skin, they stand out as lilies covered in peach and pineapple with citrus touches and maybe some powdery notes. In the dry down, it becomes very woody. And to my misfortune, it has brutal longevity. I say misfortune because, as expected, it’s impossible to get because it’s super discontinued. Ugh. Anyway, Envy is very special: fresh and warm at the same time, clean without pretensions but with a lot of attractive personality, and discreet yet a floral that wraps you in a halo of mystery that enchants. With Envy, Gucci was hinting at what was coming next, my beloved Rush. A pleasure to have met you, Envy, and a thousand thanks to whoever introduced me to it.

  • The hype of Tom Ford for Gucci from 1995 to ’99 was unreal; even the rich Spice Girl girl dreamed of being a Gucci by Tom Ford. The Halston women were adapting to the 90s minimalism, and the bottle represents it all. The top notes dominate the entire duration on the skin, then there’s lots of jasmine until the musk makes it a bit spicy, with some cedar and violet. A green perfume with acidic pineapple and a lot of punch. Those were the ‘Gucci bitches by Tom Ford,’ the best years of the 90s. I still have a finger of the original from 1997, and with my current sense of smell, I regret spending it so foolishly at 20 because the 100ml bottle didn’t fit anywhere.

  • The hype around Gucci by Tom Ford from 1995 to 1999 was insane; even rich girls dreamed of being a Gucci Spice Girl. Halston women evolved to fit the 90s minimalism, and the bottle perfectly reflected that. The top notes dominate the entire dry-down on skin, then a lot of jasmine kicks in, becoming slightly spicy with the musk, mixed with cedar and violet. It’s green, with acidic pineapple and a serious punch. These were the ‘Gucci bitches by Tom Ford’ days—the best years of the 90s. I still have a finger of the original 1997 bottle, and now I regret wasting it so recklessly at 20 because the 100ml bottle didn’t fit anywhere.

  • What a perfume… it makes me want to cry every time I remember it. I’ll never understand it. Along with Miss Dior, these are the perfumes I never could figure out why they stopped making. Incredible.

  • It’s a floral fragrance with a green and earthy touch thanks to the patchouli, giving it that vintage 90s vibe. I bought it to match the Envy for men at a good price; although it seems more feminine, underneath, it has that typical woody and oakmoss touch found in men’s chypres. I’d define it as a floral-chypre with great trail and longevity, ideal for empowered women who radiate confidence.

  • Gucci Envy is a green, spicy, slightly floral, and woody fragrance. The opening smells very much of grass, a bit mossy, and over time, it becomes more woody without losing that spicy grassy touch, basically lily of the valley and hyacinth. From a distance, it feels more woody, but up close, it’s more floral. One of my daughters loves it, though to me, it seems more for older people, which proves you can’t pigeonhole age. It gives off a sense of character, suitable for formal or casual use, but more for special occasions. It lasted over 10 hours with a moderate trail at first that later settled on the skin. Being from the late 90s, it doesn’t feel modern, though it reminds me of Memoire d’une Odeur from the same house. It’s getting harder to find; I got it for my daughter thanks to a friend who snagged it at his perfumerie, but I haven’t seen it anywhere else since.

  • Envy Gucci is green, spicy, floral, and woody. The opening smells like mossy grass and spices; over time, woodiness emerges but that spicy green vibe remains, basically lily of the valley and hyacinth. In the air, it feels more woody and mossy, but up close it’s more floral. My daughter absolutely loves it, though I think it’s more for mature people, proving you can’t pigeonhole a specific age when recommending a scent. It has character, works for both formal and casual wear, but leans more toward special occasions. It lasted over 10 hours, with a regular trail at first that later drops to skin scent. When it launched in the 90s, it didn’t feel modern, though it reminds me of Gucci’s Memoire d’une Odeur. I got it for my daughter thanks to friend @Boyfrag26 at a store in his area, but I can’t find it anywhere anymore.

  • It’s the memory of a divine green floral from the nineties. I still cry thinking about not having bought it; I think I had a sample and suffered when it ran out. ’90s green floral and a great perfume.’ There should be a word that summarizes these three things because they are clearly synonyms.

  • A divine 90s floral-green memory that still hurts because I didn’t buy it. I think I had a sample and suffered through finishing it. There should be a word that sums up these three things together because they’re clearly synonyms 💚💚💚

I’m not an expert on perfumes, but I love blind testing. I bought this without knowing what it was and spent the whole day trying to remember what it smelled like until I figured it out: it’s identical to Calvin Klein’s Eternity. For real! I checked the notes, and they match in almost every way. If you liked this and it’s already discontinued, try the Calvin Klein one; you won’t be disappointed.

I’m saying goodbye to this perfume with my heart in my hands; I’m out of stock, and it’s crazy how hard it is to find. It’s citrusy, green, and woody, perfect for everyday wear: unpretentious but with great longevity. The fruity top notes seemed very subtle, but since the musk base didn’t overwhelm me, I wore it in spring and even summer. I really hope I can get another bottle someday.
