Don Algodon Hombre by Don Algodon is a spicy aromatic fragrance for men. Launched in 1993, this composition was created by perfumer Ramon Monegal. Upon release, bergamot and Amalfi lemon (also known as Amalfi lime) awaken the nose. The heart reveals a blend of lavender, mint, pink pepper, nutmeg, and jasmine. The base settles with notes of tobacco, musk, amber, and sandalwood.

My boyfriend wears it (I gifted it to him years ago). It smells very fresh and pleasant. By the way, the women’s version of Don Algodón isn’t listed in the database; I owned it many years ago, I think it was my first perfume; I’d love to see its notes.
Super fresh cologne, perfect right after a shower. An unbeatable classic, cheap, and ideal for summer.
It’s been on the market for years. Excellent quality-to-price ratio. I don’t remember the bottles I’ve bought over the years to give as gifts.
This cologne has been on the market for years and it’s still a beast. Excellent quality-to-price ratio. I can’t remember how many bottles I’ve bought over the years to give as gifts.
It was the first ‘bath water’ my brother gave me back in ’97; I was 14, and I loved it. And if I saw it today, I’d buy it without hesitation.
Don Algodón for Men is a blue cologne not just because of the bottle, which seems cheerful and alive with that silky lemon peel opening, but at the moment, tobacco, nutmeg, and lavender threaten with a slight melancholy. This sensation remains constant against the brave spirit of the bergamot, savior and maker of light in this vibrant blue cotton. A scent that fits a lazy morning at a bar while the waitress prepares breakfast. Nothing clashes with wearing it, and despite its prudence, it makes its way among the aroma of coffee and squeezed oranges.
A couple of days ago, I stepped on a landmine that had fallen from a notebook while organizing my office. A piece of grid paper slid and landed on my desk. Seeing it, I felt the fatal click, that imperceptible sound that precedes the explosion and would tear my insides to pieces. A smiling face drawn with simple strokes and the message: ‘I love you so much, chubby.’ Broken and blinded, I waited for my thread of life to snap so I could fly to the stars. May all the years since she wrote to me be lost in a wormhole. May she remain in love, sending signals, that I hadn’t been wrong, that so many bridges hadn’t been burned, and that the sun would rise again. The English song ‘John Riley’ expresses the longings of one who loved: a woman in her garden watches a suitor asking for her hand. She replies that her beloved went to sea seven years ago and won’t marry another. What if he died in battle? I will die when the moon wanes. What if he drowned? I will honor his memory. What if he found another love? I will wish them health and happiness. The suitor kisses her hands and says he is John Riley. The story is beautiful, but reality is different. Seven years is a long time; John Riley would have died, drowned, or married someone else. If he had returned, he could have seen her new happiness, and he would be a small memory of a past era. The same goes for Quevedo’s verse: ‘dust I will be, more dust in love.’ The image is aesthetic, but that dust won’t be loving, just a cold particle wandering through space. We only have memories, dreams, and feelings to face the certainty of life and turn our pain into something meaningful. Perfumes are part of this game; their evocative power builds palaces in the air, making us remember and experience buried sensations. Here enters the glorious ‘Don Algodón,’ with its humble name and simple bottle, a scent of bright bergamot and lavender with spicy and tobacco notes. Fresh and cozy, putting it on after a shower is like wrapping yourself in thick blankets in winter or getting lost in the countryside. Its simple formula gives security and hope that it will always be there, offering comforting sparks. When applied, as the skin feels its spicy, neat breeze, it may seem that no time passed between that note and the day I found it, that John Riley’s beloved waited against wind and tide to be happy again, and that the particles of those who lived infuse space with passion and life.
It only brings me memories… of my childhood. It was the first cologne I used, a gift from my mother. Pure alcohol but smelled incredibly good. I remember perfectly how my friends were blown away. Said it, memories.
I only read memories and odes to the fragrance below. I took the task of ordering it from Spain to experience it in my hands. So to everyone who carries memories of it, I dedicate my YouTube review. On my channel Moy Olaf, you can find my honest opinion. Greetings to all who left their nostalgic memories.
I won’t describe the scent because everyone knows it; I’m just writing about the huge disappointment of trying it a few days ago. Even though it’s the same aroma (or if they modified it, I only noticed the bergamot was softened), it lasted literally 5 minutes, then a few hours close to the skin before fading completely. I compared it to SportMan, which isn’t powerful either, yet at the one-hour mark I could still smell this one, which projected and lasted more than expected. It has a reasonable price; I use it after a shower as an aftershave because I love it, in fact, it’s one of my favorites. Pity the performance, otherwise it would be perfect for daily wear. Maybe the tester I tried was expired; I’ll have to try it at other places to confirm.
I won’t talk about the scent because everyone knows it; I’m just writing this about my disappointment after trying it a few days ago: it literally lasts 5 minutes, then barely on the skin for another couple of hours, and that’s it. I compared it to SportMan, which isn’t powerful either, yet an hour later I could only smell this one, which lasted and projected much more than expected. It has a reasonable price; I use it after a shower as an aftershave because I love it, it’s one of my favorites, what a shame about the performance for daily use. Maybe the tester was expired; I’ll have to try it elsewhere to confirm. Cheers.
It was my fragrance from ages 13 to 16. Although I already had Cacharel Pour Homme for special occasions at 14, Don Algodón was the one I wore daily. I haven’t smelled a bottle in at least 15 years, afraid I wouldn’t remember that scent.
Classic and super fresh for everyday use; I’ve had it since childhood and still wear it, whether gifted or bought. No age limit or specific moment; after a shower, to go out, or to refresh yourself in summer heat. Good sillage at first and acceptable longevity; over time it sticks to the skin and even more to clothes, but if you add the gel and deodorant, you gain presence and lasting power.
I’m the lucky owner of a batch of the original Myrurgia formula, which far surpasses the current version in longevity and quality. I have very little left, so I use it to evoke innocent, lighter times. It’s a fresh, classic, timeless cologne with well-integrated bergamot, lavender, and mint, a subtle spicy touch, and a sweet base that gives it depth. Without exaggeration, if someone smelled it blind, they’d think it’s much more expensive and it remains totally current. The current version seems very basic; I’d go for a Zara citrus instead. Myrurgia Don Algodón, a lost wonder. Au revoir!
Classic and very fresh, suitable for any time of day. I remember it from my childhood and still use it today, whether as a gift or a purchase. Ageless, ideal after showering, for going out, or to refresh yourself in the summer. Good initial trail and acceptable longevity; over time it sits close to the skin but lasts longer on clothes. If you pair it with gel and deodorant, you get more presence and longevity.
What a pity it doesn’t last longer; it’s a unique, charming alcoholic citrus scent that could easily be one of the best cheap citrus fragrances in history; it’s a shame.
Even though the alcohol is noticeable, it’s always been one of my favorites for men: pleasant, affordable, fresh, and present. A classic 😍
What a pity it doesn’t last longer; it’s a unique, very cool citrus and alcoholic scent. It could easily be one of the best cheap citrus classics, what a shame.
I found a bottle of Don Algodón at home that I didn’t remember having. Upon trying it, I didn’t love it; everyone praises the citrus scent, but I don’t like it that much; it’s enjoyable but nothing more. It’s very alcoholic, and after those first few minutes, it becomes more pleasant, but it’s not a marvel. Its price is ultra-cheap, which is why it doesn’t last longer than a sigh; on my skin, it disappears in a few hours.
It smells good but is very close to the skin and doesn’t last at all. Ideal for a shower, apply it, and go to sleep.
A true all-rounder…
The best by Ramón Monegal? Maybe, he created a classic. It’s fresh, pretty, and pleasant for everyone: bergamot, mint, jasmine, a touch of nutmeg, a hint of sandalwood and tobacco… the perfect blue. The cons are well-known: very alcoholic opening and poor performance, fading to skin level from the start. I wonder if he wouldn’t do better with more longevity and quality if he corrected that opening; he’d be a genius, but I’ll leave it on my wishlist.
It was my first ‘formal’ fragrance. My mom’s hay baths were long gone. I met it in August 1997, a gift from my friends and me for my 17th birthday, bought at the drugstore of a gang member’s parents whose shop no longer exists. Since then, it’s been with me because it brings to mind that group of lively teenagers, that incredible summer in the town where we lived adventures with the intensity of world owners. When I first opened it, its scent made it mine forever. Today, 31 years after its creation and 27 since my first encounter with Don Algodón, I’m grateful it’s still among us and to Ramón Monegal for creating it. It’s no longer just a cologne; it’s my signature and the key to a trunk full of the most beautiful memories of my life.
It was my first ‘formal’ fragrance. The days when my mom bathed my sister and me in Henao de Pravia were long gone. I remember the day I met it: it was a gift from my friends for my 17th birthday in August 1997. They bought it at my parents’ pharmacy, now closed, which I used to visit a lot as a kid. Since then, I’ve always worn it because it reminds me of that lively group of teenagers, that wonderful summer in the village where every day was an adventure lived with the intensity of someone who feels like they own the world. When I first uncorked it, its scent became mine forever. Today, 31 years after its creation and 27 years since my first encounter with Don Algodón, I thank life that it’s still around and Ramón Monegal for creating it. For me, it stopped being just a cologne and became my signature and the key to a treasure chest holding the tenderest memories of my life.
It smells about 80% like Davidoff’s Cool Water: lots of alcohol and totally synthetic. I wouldn’t recommend it even at the low price; there are better options like Álvarez Gómez, Crossman, or Springfield.
I loved it so much. My mom gave it to my boyfriend at the last minute without much hope, but it smells super good and comforting; it reminds me of a clear sky with clouds. The only flaw is that it doesn’t last at all, which is a shame because the scent is one of the best.
The note that hooks me the most is dihydromyrcenol; it’s a real lifesaver for summer heat.
