Descripción

Bvlgari Man Terrae Essence by Bvlgari is a woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2021, this olfactory composition was created by Alberto Morillas. In its opening, the fragrance unfolds notes of citron and calamansi, giving way to a heart of vetiver and iris root. The trail settles on a base of earthy notes and styrax.

  • Here we have an eau de parfum by master Morillas, going all out: a vetiver fragrance. It often happens: vetiver is a base note due to its potency, but here it’s the heart, leaving the others in the background. The question is: is that vetiver high quality? Does it have nuances? I only have a sample, but it’s resounding. The iris root adds earthiness in the background. The citrus opening refreshes so it’s not heavy. The earthy base notes are there to round it off. The comparison with Terre d’Hermes is inevitable, but they diverge. If I had to say whose child it is, I’d say it’s a child of Mancera’s Wind Wood and Diptyque’s Vetyverio. Although born from a designer, it has niche DNA, going against the grain of commercial launches. They could have made it more enchanting! Sure, but it’s Bulgari and they don’t want to lose the younger audience. Anything to make it more elegant would give it a ‘gentleman’ vibe, which doesn’t seem to be the main target. Suitable for spring and autumn; it can be overwhelming in summer and doesn’t project enough in winter. The strength is longevity, thanks to the vetiver and being an Eau de Parfum. Valid for the office and special occasions, nothing sporty, with a slight alpha touch. It won’t beat the big names, but it earns my affection.

  • Morning, early on, in the mountains or the hills. The scent of herbs lifting the dew in the sun. A desire to walk, think, and connect with what matters. Bulgari Terrae opens that door to enjoy. We needed a perfume like this. For those who miss the smell of leaves, humidity, and earth amidst the concrete, here we have a gem.

  • I agree with antonhofficial’s comment. I tried it at the end of summer and didn’t like it, but I tried it again in autumn with rain and 15-degree weather, and it’s spectacular—a very rich fragrance.

The perfume is particular, but exceptional for me because it stands out in a sea of similarities. The only issue is the projection: longevity on skin is magnificent, and on clothes it can last days, but after 2 hours, it fades. At arm’s length, people can smell it; it’s like a second skin. It has brought me many compliments when kissing my partner or friends; there, it explodes. Brutal for winter and autumn, very masculine and classy.

  • It smells like the air in the mountains in summer: earth and dry vegetation baked by the sun at 40 degrees. At first, it seems like a field of hemp set on fire, but then it smells great. I’d wear it as a bandolero, like Curro Jiménez or El Algarrobo. It’s one of Bulgari’s best. It has nothing to do with Terre d’Hermes.

  • I love it; with Bulgari Terrae Essence, my mood lifts and I feel cheerful. It’s a delicious scent, even though I know it’s not for everyone. It doesn’t remind me of Guilty Absolute, but it does of Terre d’Hermes, with similar vibes, just not identical. It’s one of my favorites right now, perhaps because it’s new, as I tend to get bored with others over time. I recommend it.

  • When dry, it reminds me of a mix of Terre d’Hermes (top notes) and Fahrenheit (dry down, without the heavy kerosene vibe). It didn’t disgust me, but it didn’t fully convince me either, and I suspect it might give me a headache.

  • It’s a different perfume, smelling of earth and the countryside. I understand it might remind some of cannabis, but in a very subtle way. I recommend testing it on your skin before buying; it’s very particular. I struggle to find a perfect moment to wear it, but I bought it because I love it and use it at home to relax. Moderate to good longevity.

  • To me, it smells very similar to Terre d’Hermes. It’s not bad, but if I already have the other, why get something so similar? Speculating, could it be a tribute to Jean-Claude Ellena? On the other hand, I don’t see any resemblance to Fahrenheit or Guilty Absolute.

  • Designer perfumes usually play it safe, trying to please everyone while ignoring olfactory experiences (except for gourmands). Most of us start with commercial scents, but those of us who dive into this are looking for sensations or memories. This Terrae Essence is a rare case: Morillas bets on the smell of wet earth after rain. It sounds unappealing, but that’s not the goal (there are other scents for compliments). It’s definitely for personal enjoyment.

  • albertodeline

To me, it smells like civet. This note isn’t listed, nor any musk. Definitely, it doesn’t smell like the velvety Haitian vetiver oil I smell daily and know better than any other note. It does smell natural, bold, and is to my taste, but what I perceive most is the civet.

  • Wow, finally something different. This perfume is delicious, from its refreshing citrus opening to its earthy dry-down. Its longevity is moderate on my skin, barely five hours, but it leaves a trace that sends out gentle waves of aroma.

  • What a delightful perfume. What are we going to do when Morillas isn’t around? The truth is, it’s earthy and citrusy in the vibe of Terre d’Hermès, but unlike this one where bitter orange takes the lead, here it’s more about the earth and wood scents, with a very elegant and modern vetiver. I tested it at 30 degrees and was surprised it wasn’t suffocating, making it very versatile. It asks for a bit of formality in dressing but nothing extraordinary. What surprised me was its longevity and projection: I felt it lasted over twelve hours and projected well for the first three. I’d say it’s among the best of the Bulgari Man line I’ve tried. Different from current trends. Recommended.

  • I don’t know where people get the idea that this resembles Gucci Guilty Absolute or Terre d’Hermès… this perfume is 90% similar to Encre Noire Extreme. I have both on each arm, and the similarity is very noticeable. Maybe Terrae Essence is a bit more citrusy, but then those earthy notes emerge like wet earth and forest. It has nothing to do with the leather of Gucci Guilty Absolute.

  • I’m no expert in fragrances, but like with wine, I know what I like and what I don’t, and I rarely go wrong. I just smelled it at ECI and immediately regretted spraying it on my wrist: it smells like a wild rabbit. Horrible. Plus, it’s persistent and dominant. Others might smell flowers, herbs, oaks, and holm oaks; anyone who hunts will know the strong musky scent I’m referring to. One and done.

Reading the comments, I’m sure these are those peculiar perfumes that depend heavily on skin chemistry. I just put it on after a shower, and the Terre d’Hermès side comes out more clearly. On my skin, the first time I noticed it, it was 70% Ombre Leather Parfum.

  • felipehdezm

Spectacular perfume. It smells like a gentleman, a boss, and a winner. It’s a mix of Ombre Leather Parfum, but instead of a floral base, it has a fresher base, making it IMO more versatile than Ombre Leather. Undoubtedly a beast.

  • Hello fragrance lovers. Terrae Essence is a good scent and very subtle at first, easily confused with Terre d’Hermès. In the mid-stage it becomes more earthy, and when it dries down it’s identical to Calvin Klein’s Obsession for Men, though this one smells sexier. I’ve only smelled two ‘dirty’ perfumes by Seville’s Alberto Morillas: this Terrae Essence and Acqua Di Gio Profumo. Critics said Profumo smells a bit sinful, and Alberto claimed his weirdest creation, Thierry Mugler Cologne, reminded him of semen. Anyway, Bulgari’s new releases are great because they’re signed by the Seville native.

  • carloslainezd

I love it. It smells different and is hard to classify. It starts citrusy and then leaves a dry earth scent—it’s not vetiver… hard to explain but it’s unique.

I recently came across it and was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the opening is very similar to Terre d’Hermès, but as it dries down, it’s different. The notes come out in order; remember, it’s a Bvlgari. In my country, summer is hot, ranging from 35 to 45 degrees, and wearing it is a whole sensory experience. I sell perfumes and always advise my clients to make good investments, not based on what I like, but on what brings them well-being. Terrae Essence stands out from the crowd: it’s rare, subtle, mysterious, and humid. It’s that perfume people will ask you about. It’s not for everyone, but it’s very pleasant and activates around 30 degrees. Fun fact: on rainy days, it smells even more delicious.

  • I was curious to try it, and honestly, I didn’t like it at all. It reminded me of Terre d’Hermès Intense Vetiver, which I don’t dislike, but with an even stronger, more powerful, exaggerated smell. It’s not for me; I couldn’t stand wearing it all day.

  • I tried it at Sephora and was pleasantly surprised. It has a niche aroma with personality, different from the rest of the store. Its earthy, slightly dry vetiver stands out, with hints of cider citrus, unlike the typical blends with grapefruit or bergamot. At first, I noticed a slight chemical benzene smell, not very pleasant. Although the citrus part lasts, unfortunately, the overall performance was very low. I deny any similarities to Tom Ford’s Ombré Leather; they don’t resemble each other in notes, opening, or dry-down.

  • I sprayed it on my wrist and I don’t know how to describe the smell. I was impressed and incredulous thinking about how something like this is made, especially since it costs money. It smells like wet earth, infinitely better than dry earth. This is disgusting; I don’t know what it resembles, neither animal nor sweaty leather… It’s a disgusting scent.

  • I tried it just to get it out of the way, and wow, I loved it. I had to buy it because I was so impressed. It’s a scent for going out elegantly and for men over 30. The first two hours project a lot, like you’re peeing, and then it fades, but you can’t stop smelling it. Perfect purchase. Although I’m not a fan of dark woods, it’s true that it resembles Terre d’Hermès, but it has its differences.

  • Carlossith

As a vetiver lover, this is one of my favorites. It starts citrusy, like a lime, and as it dries down, the vetiver and lots of wood become apparent. After a few hours, it gives off a leather sensation similar to Gucci Guilty Absolute, which I also own. If you like vetiver, it’s a safe buy. Ideal for rainy, cold, or fresh days.

  • nilsonparaguayo72

I’m a fragrance advisor, and this is a love-it-or-hate-it scent, but it’s excellent. It resembles Terre d’Hermès, though Terrae Essence by Bvlgari stands out for its citrus opening (though I don’t really detect those much). The incredible thing is that it smells different depending on the weather: on hot, humid days it’s dry, but on rainy days it’s absolutely magical. I wore it today with rain in South America and detected more vetiver, lily roots, and amber. The dominant note is about six hours of fertile, wet earth, with that woody vetiver fading around the eight-hour mark. I wear it at the office in a suit, but also with a polo and jeans. It’s versatile, and you can fall in love with it like I did.

  • 4597674mel

One of the most imposing male fragrances I’ve ever smelled, hands down. Wearing it makes a statement. It reminds me of red clay after a rainstorm and sawdust; I barely notice the citrus. It has great projection and long-lasting longevity. My rating: 7/10.

  • I was a fan of Terre d’Hermès and bought this thinking it would be similar, but it was a catastrophic mistake. Nothing at all to do with the reality; it was a blind buy and a terrible dud. My advice: if you like Terre d’Hermès, buy the original. Don’t make my mistake and save yourself some money.

  • I’m a huge fan of Bvlgari Man, and this is, without a doubt, the biggest disappointment in the line. It smells like powerful, ripe figs lasting all day, mixed with cider and earthy notes like lily root and elemi. The result is a strange blend, almost like a hippie in a colorful wool suit. Projection and longevity are excellent, but that weird sweetness with earth doesn’t convince me. Not recommended.

  • I love Alberto Morillas fragrances; this one is super rich, but not for everyone. It’s strong, masculine, and different. The scent lasts many hours; in my case, I really liked the heart and base notes. Upon application, it feels woody, slightly sweet, and ends with a deep earthy smell. Don’t buy blind, although I did. It’s different, far from the usual sweet perfumes. Be careful with the amount of applications.

  • Among my 300+ perfumes, this would be in the top 10 of scams. The performance is non-existent. I tested it on several people and it lasts a maximum of one or two hours on the skin. I don’t usually review here because sometimes I see troll comments, but in this case, I have to warn: it’s a performance scam, at least my batch.

  • Villefragance

What a pleasant surprise, a masterpiece by Morillas that touches on niche territory. I haven’t heard anything like it. I own Terre d’Hermès and don’t see a resemblance, and although I don’t know the Gucci one, it might share some DNA with Ombre Leather, but very distant. It left me impressed right out of the box. If you don’t buy blind, you need at least a collection and a trained nose. Contrary to what people think, I believe it can earn compliments. We’ll see how longevity holds up over time; I don’t expect it to be a beast, so 6 hours would satisfy me. Edit: confirmed, it lasted 7 hours on my skin, reaching 9 but the last two hours were skin-only. Moderate projection and trail at the start. Excellent if you like challenging and earthy aromas. Recommended.

  • I read here that it doesn’t last and I think they’ve tampered with it. I have a first batch and it lasts nine hours perfectly, projecting well for two hours, but even when I move around, I can still smell it. For me, it’s a beast of a fragrance.

  • This is my signature scent. It smells like fertile, wet earth after a sunny rain. It lasts forever; when I put it on, I feel like I have superpowers, haha. It’s my favorite, number 1.

  • JoseMartin

I think it’s a distinct and original proposal; I never thought I’d like something with earthy notes. It’s masculine and strong. I’ve read complaints about longevity, but in my case, it projects well for the first 4 hours, then drops to a personal bubble for another 4, yet the scent is felt the whole time. At the end, it sits close to the skin, but it lasts 10 hours in total, which doesn’t usually happen. I’ll definitely buy it again when I run out.

  • aromaadurazneroReseñasYT

What a marvel this perfume is: long-lasting and with an original aroma. It’s masculine, informal, and different. It has a hint of jasmine that I can’t quite identify, but you can smell it among the notes.

  • Austriacopitecus

I don’t own it, but I’ve tested it several times. Sometimes the listed notes don’t match reality, and that’s the case here. To my nose, it opens with creamy citrus over freshly cut wet wood. Then the citrus blends with the cream, and the wood gains strength until it feels damp and aged, like oud. That’s the heart and dry-down, though the creamy citrus from the beginning lingers throughout the entire wood.

  • JohnLecter86

It doesn’t quite make me fall in love, but it has its own charm. Earthy notes and a modern vetiver, very balanced and unconventional. Worth it if you’re looking for something different, though it calls for formal or semi-formal attire to shine. Ideal for fall and winter, but you must test it on your skin because its earthy and woody character isn’t for everyone. I wore it on a rainy day, and the earthy notes really stood out.

  • I tried the 2022 batch and it’s a beast: incredible quality and insane longevity. Smells like bitter, sober citrus with earthy undertones and a woody base. I love it; it adds presence and is perfect for work. I usually prefer fresh, marine scents, but this… wow, it’s on another level. It feels like a distant cousin of Terre d’Hermès, with nods to it but a more unique essence. It’s mature, not for everyone, but I wore it at 24 without any issues. I’ll definitely repurchase in 60ml; it’s better for special occasions. 8/10.
