Blanche by Byredo is an aldehydic floral fragrance launched in 2009, designed for women. Its scent profile opens with top notes of aldehydes, rose, and pink pepper; the heart reveals a harmony of peony, violet, and neroli; and the base settles on musk, woody notes, and sandalwood.

  • This perfume is impressive! I don’t own it because I went with Gin Fizz that day, plus it costs around 140 euros, which isn’t cheap. But I tried a bit and it lasted the whole afternoon. It’s a decent floral fragrance, but to me, it smelled like bar soap. Clean, yes. I’ll give it another try next time.

The Maison du Monsieur Ben Gorham really shined with this perfume. It’s proof that synthetic notes can be harmonious and evoke deep sensations. It features fresh, luminous aldehydes accompanied by romantic, bright white peonies. To me, it seems like a feminine fragrance, but of a pure, natural, and subtle femininity. It’s a spring and summer scent, perfect for hot days. Whenever a friend gets married or goes to a first communion, I always tell her to try Blanche. It’s pleasant, creates pure romance, and has excellent performance, lasting over 10 hours with constant sillage. It’s the scent of a luxurious French white peony soap, supremely clean and elegant. I love it.

  • Delicious perfume, clean, white, with a floral touch that brings peace. I’m wearing it right now after a shower, and it produces a real sense of calm. It has good sillage and decent longevity. I love it, and for me, it’s perfectly unisex.

  • If we mixed the scent of luxury soap and freshly laundered sheets from a Ritz, it would smell like Blanche. It’s elegant, minimalist, fresh, and unisex. I can picture someone in a spotless white shirt, exuding effortless class. It could be a personal signature scent, perfect for spring, summer, or warm days in autumn and winter. It’s ideal for people who don’t like perfumes that ‘smell like perfume,’ or for those working in healthcare or enclosed spaces. It doesn’t fill the room, but it makes people lean in and think, ‘Wow, you smell great,’ as if you just showered or put on fresh laundry. Edit: As it dries down, it reminds me a lot of Carolina Herrera’s 212.

  • If we mixed the scent of luxury soap and freshly laundered Ritz hotel sheets, in my mind, it would smell like Blanche. It’s an elegant, minimalist, fresh, and completely unisex fragrance. I can picture a man or a woman in a crisp white shirt or tee, perfectly dressed, exuding that simplicity that radiates elegance. I could see it as a personal signature scent, though I think it would shine especially in spring and summer, or on warmer days in autumn and winter. It could be a great choice for people who don’t like perfumes that ‘smell like perfume,’ for those working in healthcare, or in enclosed spaces. This isn’t a fragrance that fills a room, but one that makes you think, ‘Wow, that smells good,’ when you get close to someone, almost making you think they just got out of the shower or have freshly washed clothes, smelling naturally great. Edit: The dry-down reminds me a lot of Carolina Herrera’s 212.

  • Sorry for the negative take. Since I started checking reviews on this site before buying, I feel comfortable saying Blanche didn’t work for me. The aldehyde hit is strong and leaves no room for anything else on my nose. If you’re looking for natural essences or something that doesn’t feel synthetic, look elsewhere. After a while, a hint of orange candy and a pleasant soapy note try to emerge, but they can’t develop under that dominant synthetic layer until suddenly—plop!—it’s gone. It didn’t last even one workday. I’ve seen others disappointed too (disappointed, not by white sheets).

  • Sorry for the counterpoint. Since discovering this site, I always check reviews before buying a new fragrance, partly because I’m venturing into higher price points. That’s why I’m writing a negative review; this would have steered me away from Blanche before I tried it. The aldehyde hit is intense and leaves no room for anything else on my nose. If you prefer natural essences or scents that don’t feel synthetic, I don’t recommend it. After a while, a hint of orange caramel emerges, followed by a pleasant soapy floral note that never really comes through or develops, at least on my skin. And it’s always under that synthetic aldehyde layer that dominates throughout, until it seems to open up a bit like morning mist and then… Plop! It’s gone! It didn’t last long at all. It doesn’t even make it through a workday. I’ve read other reviews with fresh eyes, and I fear I’m not the only one left disappointed (not by white sheets, but by the experience).

  • Last year, my favorite was Delina Exclusif, but in 2021, I’m back to my roots: pure, clean, and crystal-clear scents, specifically aldehydic ones, whether powdery or floral. My pick for this year is Blanche, and my big discovery is Byredo.

  • Celiaddiaz

This perfume is incredible! It’s like being wrapped in luxury hotel sheets. Definitely an elegant fragrance for everyday wear—subtle enough not to be loud, but present enough to make an impression effortlessly.

  • If my favorite fragrance last year was Delina Exclusif (Parfums de Marly), in 2021 I’ve completely switched gears and returned to my usual preferences for pure, clean, crystal-clear scents—specifically aldehydes, sometimes more powdery and other times more floral. My bet this year is Blanche, and my discovery is Byredo.

Thanks to the reviews, I finally took the plunge and ordered a sample. To me, it’s the ultimate clean scent—a perfect blend of fabric softener and starch. It smells absolutely delicious and lasts quite a while. But I wouldn’t pay that price just to smell like detergent; at that level, I expect something that feels like a real, high-quality perfume.

  • Smells clean, but not like sheets or freshly showered, but like a clean bathroom. To the product my parents use for bathrooms, literally. With all due respect, that’s what it reminded me of from the very first moment. It’s pleasant, very aldehydic, fresh, musky, floral, and even aquatic. When I smell it, it tickles my nose, it’s strong. When it dries, it reminds me a bit of wipes. I like the aroma but I can’t see myself smelling like this. Lasts about 7 hours on skin with moderate sillage. Scent: 6/10 Sillage: 8/10 Longevity: 7/10

  • If you like clean perfumes that smell like ultra-clean laundry, I recommend it: lasts about 10 hours on skin. The first three notes are a bomb of aldehydes reminiscent of anti-limescale tablets (like Calgon), then it softens thanks to the white musk and a touch of peony floral. Casual fragrance and unisex, perfect for all year round, although it shines more in moderate temperatures. It was the Byredo from my discovery pack that I liked the least but had the best performance. Not unpleasant, but on my skin it behaved linearly and sharp. Seems I don’t have much luck with this brand. Pleasant: 5/10 Interesting: 3/10 Versatile: 9/10 Original: 5/10

  • Smells like laundry fabric softener in the best way. For lovers of neutral and fresh aromas. Open, luminous, vaporous, and fresh. Smells like cotton fabrics laid out in the field moving with the wind, like in a Vernel ad. Discreet aldehydic and musky.

  • Gemasevilla

I don’t know how to categorize it. Not powdery, not creamy. It doesn’t smell like a clean person to me, but a clean room. I expected something else. You have to try it before buying because you have to understand it. I still haven’t figured it out.

  • Carcanuelo

One of the most polished on the market. Slightly talcum-like, soapy when dry, and elegant. The aldehydes with musk give it a clean laundry scent with the most luxurious fabric softener. White is the keyword. Very long-lasting, over 8 hours on skin and projecting in a bubble around. Ideal for spring and outdoor summer nights. Unisex with a slight feminine tendency. I’m a man and I wear it in those situations. It denotes quality without drawing too much attention.

It seems I fall into that audience for which this, although pleasant, smells like a product designed not to perfume but to freshen the air. It reminds me of Mikado, a room freshener with a ‘zen’ scent, relaxing and close to ozone. It could be the smell of a psychologist’s waiting room or the aroma sprayed in a clothing store to attract people. You have to test it with your mind, because my nose picks up a plastic and artificial finish that suggests cleaning product rather than something that blends with your essence. A strange creation by Byredo that brought back memories of when I discovered Gucci Rush and thought: ‘It smells like a perfumed trash bag!’.

  • Blanche starts promising but ends up disappointing. I was looking for that clean soap scent, like a shower gel that would last, and here it was. But not to stay. I bought a decant out of fear, tried it, and thought I’d found what I was looking for, but soon realized it was an illusion. It smells like a well-made room freshener, but I don’t want that on my skin. It smells like powdered detergent waiting for a garment to be freshly washed. It gets on my nerves over time and I don’t feel comfortable as I expected. I’m not looking for shelter in clean sheets dried in the sun or dryer. Byredo wins with its Scandinavian concept, but their perfumes leave me hanging. Bal d’Afrique is the same: I ask for more than I get. I’ll keep trying because I’m one of those evocative people where a well-constructed title beats the concept, and that’s where Byredo shines. For me, perfumes are a work of art that starts with the eyes, with the bottle. Being pre-made, I have to imagine the personality just from the title. The scent is the last step; if it wins, it’s a 10, a place to live, and if it loses, I think I need to keep educating my nose because maybe I’m not ready to understand it. And that’s exactly what’s happening to me. I’m an idealist, so I’m not giving up yet. I’ll finish the decant and save it for good mood days, but I won’t spend the fortune it costs to continue. It doesn’t define me.

‘Blanche’ smells like a bar of soap with floral hints, but what stands out is that fizzy, chemical musk aspect rather than the flowers. Not for me; I prefer musk over freshly laundered clothes without so much soap. Great for spring, unisex, and feminine. No sillage and the longevity is terrible, one of the worst from Byredo. There are cheaper alternatives with better performance. My favorite is Pure Musk in Spray by Afnan (not on Fragrantica): it smells like fabric softener, talc, and flowers. I spray it on clothes and sheets, and they seem fresh from the washer. It’s affordable, fresh, with great sillage and longevity (watch out with the sprays). Since I got it, I stopped looking for clean scents because this is exactly what I wanted. Recommended for the price.

  • A clean, soapy scent, like a blue-floral fabric softener. Way too expensive for what it is; same style but cheaper: Clean Warm Cotton.

  • Clean and soapy scent, like the Flor Frescor Azul fabric softener. It’s way too expensive for what it offers; there are cheaper options with the same vibe, like Clean Warm Cotton.

  • AuroraYunis

If there’s anyone from Venezuela who knows it smells like blue soap, it’s great if you want to smell like blue soap, but it’s cheaper to just use the blue soap and say it’s this perfume, haha.

  • It smells like marine deodorant or an air freshener. I don’t see much use for that; it’s like a nice-smelling air freshener, but on the skin, it feels weird to smell like that. Maybe for after the gym, it’s as if you used a very perfumed gel or deodorant.

  • It’s a bomb of white musk, tremendously soapy, with a floral touch. A clean, spotless aroma. Simple, ethereal, and linear. For me, like most, it smells like expensive fabric softener for clothes… but very potent. It’s not even the type of scent I look for in my laundry products because it’s too sharp, so you can imagine this perfume wasn’t for me. The performance is disappointing for the price: the projection is brutal, but after an hour it drops suddenly and stays skin-close for about 3-4 hours before disappearing.

  • Lorenapicazo

Finally, I found this delicacy. After searching a thousand times for a perfume that smells CLEAN, I found many that smell clean, but none like this. I use it for layering: I apply Blanche on my skin to feel clean without being overwhelming, and the other perfume, which is sweeter, on my clothes. This is the definition of pure cleanliness. It doesn’t smell like lemon like many ‘clean’ perfumes do; it’s rich fabric softener with a touch of peony, dry and sparkling thanks to the pink pepper. I understand why others might find it boring or just ‘pure cleanliness,’ which is why I do layering.

  • I don’t like it. It smells like Ambi Pur soaked in fabric softener. It doesn’t smell like a person’s perfume, but rather a powerful air freshener or laundry detergent in a car left in the sun. Ugh, I couldn’t stand it if a woman wore it.

  • I don’t like it. It smells like Ambi Pur (a famous air freshener in Spain) soaked in fabric softener. It doesn’t smell like a human perfume; it smells like a washing machine or a powerful air freshener in a car left in the sun. Ugh!!! I couldn’t stand a woman wearing this.

  • Gatitomalbado

Aldehydes, a touch of violet, a whiff of orange blossom, and lots of soapy musk. It’s okay, yes, but it ends up a bit boring. It’s clean, neat, and unisex. I wouldn’t pay the price for something like this. It’s not that I dislike it, but I don’t think it’s worth it. The longevity and sillage are moderate.

  • It smells incredibly clean. At first, it gave me the sensation of lavender, or rather, lavender fabric softener, due to that density of aldehydes; it smells like a luxury laundromat. I really liked it, although I don’t think I’d wear it myself; maybe it’s better for ambienting or gifting.

  • Totally unexpected. I can’t stand florals, especially white ones; I’m more into earth, moss, and wood. But I tried it on a hand cream at a friend’s house and fell in love. It has such a smooth, natural quality that it blends with your own scent. At first, it smells strong and everyone notices, but nobody asks anything (my office is super strict about perfumes, and I’ve even been scolded for wearing niche), so you spend the whole day enjoying it. I picked up a 50ml and used it all summer without getting tired of it.

  • JavierPerfumista

I bought this at the Istanbul Duty Free before heading home, and it was a total win. I prefer perfumes that don’t scream; I’d rather smell clean and fresh than overpowering or fruity. It reminds me a bit of Prada L’Homme but with a floral twist, just as the notes suggest. For me, it’s top tier.
