Bad by Diesel is an aromatic woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2016, this composition was created by Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaïm. The top notes unfold with lavender, bergamot, cardamom, and violet leaves; the heart reveals caviar, iris root, and sage; while the base notes settle into a woody accord of tobacco, ambroxan, tonka bean, and patchouli.

I tested the fragrance this afternoon at Laguna Perfumerías, where it’s already available just like on their website. I must say it’s almost a copy of the 2015 CH Men Privé by Carolina Herrera. Maybe it’s a bit darker and less sweet, but that’s the direction it’s heading. For me, nothing new under the sun. The segment is youth-oriented, and its place is the night. Another perfume following the same current fashion trend.

  • Reviewing that this scorching August it’s already available in Spain. It’s not in all perfumeries in Valencia yet, but it is at El Corte Inglés, Paco Perfumerías, and Perfumerías Laguna. It’s available to try, and I hope I don’t have to wait long to go to the store.

Today a sample arrived that they sent with Bodybell, and the truth is, it has nothing to do with the CH PRIVE by Carolina Herrera I own. Although the opening has some similarity, the dry down is another world entirely. To me, it smells more like Invictus, with that synthetic and unpleasant odor that bothers so many. I agree with 99.9% of perfumers: nothing new or groundbreaking, very generic, and in my opinion, very expensive for what it offers. They should focus more on creating quality rather than spending on marketing. I’m not buying it; I’ll stick with CH PRIVE, which, although it’s not a masterpiece, is much more dignified and sophisticated.

  • They gave me a 1.5 ml sample. Not much to say; I agree with my friend Juanca: it’s a faithful copy of Carolina Herrera 212. In my case, I own Surf, and it resembles that quite a bit. This Diesel smells okay, but it adds nothing, lacks originality… Naturally, it targets the youth segment, and if it’s not expensive, they’ll surely sell it.

  • Honestly, I think they’ve put way too much marketing into what they offer. I’d put it in the generic category, that woody and spicy style shared by Invictus or Lacoste Noir. Although they don’t smell identical, Lacoste has a watermelon touch at the start, but in the end, they smell almost the same. It’s the typical perfume of young people today; when you walk into a place, everyone’s wearing it, that generic and citrusy vibe. A fragrance that takes no risks and adds nothing. I wouldn’t buy it. My rating: 3/10.

@Ivan 80 I know we weren’t talking about a specific review, but it’s interesting to see how different skins smell differently and the same perfume isn’t perceived the same by everyone. I have one that sounds youthful to some but old-man-ish to others. I’m glad you like this Bad from Diesel, but to me, it smells very dark, and the real issue is that it has poor performance. It’s original in its own way; not everyone uses a caviar-and-tobacco blend. I presume it has a bit of leather, though I’m not sure. Anyway, wear it with pleasure because that’s what counts.

The worst thing about this latest Diesel launch—a brand I’ve never really liked much—is its low projection and longevity. It reminded me a lot of Carolina Herrera’s CH Men Privé when it first came out, but I think there’s an abyss between the two because Herrera’s is enjoyable, while this one isn’t. I seriously believe Diesel is number one in clothing design, but in perfumery, they don’t even come close to a minimum standard.

@Ivan 80 In my review, I didn’t say designer brands are lower quality, since 90% of my wardrobe consists of them. I tried Diesel Fuel for Life but didn’t repurchase. My point is that, coincidentally, Diesel hasn’t stood out with any distinctive perfume so far, which some French friends also agree on. The only one I’d review is Fuel for Life Spirit, which seems very pleasant and wearable. Anyway, I’m glad this Bad works for you; I tested it at a perfumery and it was a failure for me, maybe your skin makes it work and boosts its performance. But for me, I’d never buy it.

  • I bought the Bad from Diesel using the samples they gave me in-store. I’ve tried other scents from the brand before, and none convinced me except Fuel for Life Homme, which isn’t really my style but is the most wearable they have. Bad starts citrusy and spicy, but those citrus notes are artificial, low-quality, and smell dirty and dull—the exact opposite of what they should be. Fortunately, the spices kick in later; the lavender lingers, but cardamom saves the blend a bit. Here you can feel that hazy warmth mixing with the dry, dusty vibe of the lily-of-the-valley and woody notes. There’s also a sharp, very astringent, acidic note that clashes and throws everything off balance—I assume that’s the tobacco they’re calling it. I’ve smelled plenty of tobaccos, but this ‘thing’ doesn’t resemble anything real; it’s one of the worst I’ve ever smelled, even bothering me after just five minutes. When it dries down, I detect a salty edge, nothing like caviar, but rather a cocktail of cheap musks that ends in a detergent-like note identical to Invictus, though at least Invictus is better made. That musk is Tonalid. Good longevity, moderate sillage. All in all, another horrendous designer fragrance, another clone, a lack of imagination, and shoddy quality that insults good taste. The consumer who trusts a prestigious brand is the one who loses, while companies charge way more than they deliver. Rating: 1

  • I bought a new fragrance and the saleswoman gave me samples, including this Bad. I’ve tried others from the brand and they never convinced me except Fuel for Life, which isn’t my taste but is the most usable. Bad opens citrusy and spicy, but the citrus is artificial, low quality, and smells dirty and dead, without brightness—the antithesis of a citrus note, pure misery. Spices kick in immediately and lavender lingers, but cardamomo opens with an acceptable aroma that steers the fragrance to its only saving grace: here you notice a nebulous warmth that blends well with the dry, dusty point of iris root and woods. I also detect an acute, astringent, and acidic note that clashes and unbalances; I suppose that’s what they call tobacco. I’ve tried many tobacco notes, but this “thing” resembles nothing, not even a little; it’s been one of the worst to pass through my nose, even annoying after 5 minutes. In the dry down, there is a salty point, but no caviar, rather a cocktail of cheap musks that ends dying in a detergent note identical to Invictus, although the latter is better made. This musk is called Tonalid. Good duration with moderate sillage. Anyway, another horrendous designer fragrance, just another clone, lacking imagination, with shoddy quality that attacks good taste. The buyer who trusts a prestigious brand is the one who loses out; the companies benefit with huge dividends because they charge much more than they give. Rating: 1

  • The name fits this gem perfectly. Generic, synthetic, and with poor performance for the modest price of 60 euros. Anyway, very bad.

  • It’s true it doesn’t add anything. Think of it as Diesel’s take on CH Men Privé or Man in Black. It’s that kind of fragrance that shines with a leather jacket. But I like it.

One of my best friends gifted me Invictus Aqua in 2016. I’m into designer perfumes for daily wear that please the majority; I save my heavy artillery for special occasions and my niche eccentricities for environments where they’re appreciated or when I feel like putting on something just for me, knowing I might offend. Although I receive many compliments, I HATE fragrances with a bubblegum + aquatic scent. Still, year after year, my girlfriend or a friend gifts me one of these, so I use them occasionally when hanging out with them. Fortunately, my family usually asks first and almost always gives me a spare bottle of something they know I like. To the point: Invictus Aqua smelled pleasant in the air if you like this style, with the best reactions always from girls around 25, especially in the heat. The problem was an inescapable smell of boiled eggs every time I brought my nose close to the application point. This had never happened to me. After ruling out paranoia by asking trusted people (they had trouble catching it at first, but found it if they looked), I decided to stop using it. Luckily, several reviewers on YouTube have overhyped it, and to this day I have about 30ml left from a 100ml bottle after selling two dozen samples online, so I haven’t cried much. This weekend, the same girl who gifted me the Invictus Aqua gave me Bad out of the blue. Want to know how the discontinued 2016 Invictus Aqua smelled? EXACTLY the same as Bad, with half the sillage and longevity, and a barely noticeable woody base note in the dry down that the original doesn’t have. I’m writing this with two sprays on each arm. Literally, a copy and paste. Including the super sexy boiled egg note. The only interesting thing about the 2016 Aqua was that it lasted until pool baths. You’d get out of the water and still smell yourself. Others could learn from this longevity and sillage… I applied them about 3 hours ago, the Aqua is still detectable without needing to bring my nose close to the arm, while Bad has been on my skin for almost an hour. Recommended for lovers of the discontinued version; the 2018 update remains abominable, but they’ve rounded off the ultra-synthetic smell that it had, taking away the longevity and (something good) the egg smell. Still, I wouldn’t buy any of the three. For the same price, Dylan Blue, First Instinct, First Instinct Blue, or Legend Spirit will do the job. For the same price, ADG Profumo or Light Blue Intense have incredibly contrasting and bulletproof ADNs with the female public. PD: Editing to say the bottle is indeed pretty, it catches the eye inside the “no thanks” shelf. PD2: Second edition after reading reviews from colleagues. Those who say it’s similar to CH Men Privé, please make an appointment with an ENT as soon as possible. I’m on my third bottle of this perfume, and they literally have 0 in common… It can be said to be a “bad boy” version of Nuit De L’Homme (another one I’m on my third bottle of), especially in the dry down if you smell them one after the other, even though they have several well-differentiated notes. Now, with Bad, there is no resemblance at all. But none.

  • juancar677

@universal. I don’t claim it’s a clone of Carolina Herrera’s CH Men Privé, but tested in 2016, its top notes flew in that style. However, I’ll make an appointment with Dr. Roig, my private ENT/laryngologist, although in the last review he found me in very good health. But who knows? Health shouldn’t be neglected by even a milliliter. In general, Bad seems bad to me. PS: I gifted the CH Men Privé.

  • The comment was ironic, not malicious, juancar677. Obviously, everyone smells and rationalizes differently. I also say that many perfumes change drastically between paper and skin. I’ve been surprised myself. CH Men Privé, I started hating it (blind buy because I live on an island with limited options). It became an acquired taste, especially due to the good results. Another point in its favor: the first bottle had terrible performance, the last two last a solid 7-8 hours with movement and sweat. At 30-40cm from the neck, it’s always noticeable, even closer a couple of hours later. I applied one on my arm to compare them 1:1; I suspect many only smell the spray or are mediocre proposals on paper strips, because I can’t find any resemblance to them except perhaps the initial alcohol, but still imagining more than feeling. Best regards.

  • juancar677

@universal. I understood correctly that your review wasn’t sarcastic. Are the fragrances similar? No, because Bad is way inferior to CH Privé. Only at the start does it vaguely remind me of Herrera. Apart from that, they have nothing in common. I really liked CH Privé and got compliments, but its sweet base overwhelmed me, so now my nephew has it, just like the original CH, which I didn’t want once my partner recognized it. They’re pretty fragrances, but their sweetness wore me out. Warm regards to your island.

  • misteroliver

I love this fragrance. The blend of leather and caviar with sweet notes gives it a very original salty touch. It might be a bit edgy, but it’s clean and not cloying. Better for nightwear, and I wear it in winter.

  • misteroliver

I love it. The blend of leather and caviar with sweet notes creates a very original salty touch. It’s rough but clean, not cloying at all. Perfect for nightwear; I wear it in winter.

  • Superior fragrance to Invictus: the opening is less sweet, but after five minutes it shifts, becoming more mature, persistent, and heavy, similar to Paco Rabanne. I recommend it over Invictus, although it’s less flashy than Acqua Di Gio Absolu, which follows a similar path. I’d say Diesel Bad is the Invictus for guys over 35. I recommend it.

  • Pleasant synthetic scent… though to be honest, I always prefer Sculpture when it comes to synthetics.

  • One of my top favorites. Smells like you just got on a Harley with new leather—rich and warm. Totally Son of Anarchy.

  • alvarodelgadob

It’s an ultra-synthetic Invictus, so much so that it gives me a headache. At this price, I’d stick with the original, but if you’re looking for something more classy and you like the scent, Acqua Di Gio Absolu is your best bet.

  • It’s one of my favorites. You feel like an Anarchy son on your Harley: leather scent, super rich and warm.

  • Second day with BAD: it’s spring, and you can tell more in the park. Today something curious: during my morning walk with the dog, everyone turned their heads with surprised faces. The strangest part was later, after breakfast on the terrace (cloudy, fresh, and humid day): I think I broke the record for unknown women greeting me. Even from behind, I could tell they had seen me before. I wasn’t going to greet anyone, but today all the girls, known and unknown, greeted me. Walking the dog normally means everyone goes their own way, but today I couldn’t believe it, five in a row. Everyone said something to me. I don’t know what happened, but it’s my second day, and I admit it has extraordinary performance on my skin, filling rooms. It projects more than I thought, and the longevity is above average. The aroma doesn’t disgust me, I like it enough to finish it and leave a good memory. I don’t usually repeat unless it’s in my top five. Time will tell……🤔

  • I bought it on sale, blind, looking for notes I know I like, and it was a hit; I loved it. Good longevity, 6 to 8 hours on skin, on clothes my jacket lasts a week. Good projection. The best compliment was from my 2-year-old daughter, who gave me a sigh after taking a deep breath… Recommended, yes. I’ll buy it again; I already bought an extra bottle to keep. I learned to buy more than one whenever I like a perfume. Fragrances I use or have used: 212 Men x2, 212 On Ice 2005, Invictus (which it doesn’t resemble at all) x2, Quasar JDP x4 (I have 1 left of 125ml), Black XS 2005 x2, Quorum Silver, Agua Brava Sea Power x2, Miami Seduction Black

  • Bad Diesel is aromatic, spicy, and woody. Citrus and semi-sweet opening with amber and violet hints. Then lavender and tonka bean give it a fougère nod. In the dry down, the woods emerge, but lavender keeps it fresh. Works well in temperate climates, not in winter due to lack of warmth. Not elegant; better for daily wear or the office. Lasted about 9 hours with regular projection. In short, it doesn’t stand out or feel original, but it smells good and serves those who just want to smell nice without complications.

  • Diesel Bad is aromatic, spicy, and woody. Citrus, spicy, and semi-sweet opening, with amber and violet tones. After a few minutes, it becomes very aromatic, with lavender and a hint of tonka bean, like some Fougères. In the dry-down phase, woody notes appear, but the lavender stays fresh and aromatic. It could be used almost all year round, except winter, due to a lack of warmth in the spices; temperate climates are its perfect stage. It’s not elegant, I don’t recommend it for special occasions, but yes for daily use or the office. Good longevity, close to 9 hours, with regular projection. In summary, it doesn’t stand out in anything and isn’t original, but it’s pleasant and a good option for someone who doesn’t want to collect but just smell good.

  • Hello everyone… I’ve seen many comments, all spot on. I think it comes down to the notes: they are familiar and commercial, a generic set, timeless and easy to use like eau de toilette. Top, heart, and base are very balanced, not leaning towards any side. If it were a Chypre scent, it would be a quiet walk through a peaceful city. What I like about BAD is when I don’t know where to lean and want something casual that doesn’t stand out, but with strength and medium longevity: it’s one of my favorites. It reminds me of Carolina Herrera and brands that use cardamom, also youthful scents and the lavender in Sauvage. The only downside is that it’s totally masculine due to a lack of floral notes; if it had them, it would be rounded, but I don’t think that’s the intention. Regarding the caviar, I think it’s a way for the perfumer to cover themselves with discordant blends that didn’t turn out as intended. It’s a disgusting fish note, synthetic, gummy, tarred, salty, and plastic; it’s not noticeable on the skin but appears in the projection. If you accept it as caviar or a touch of bad boy, no problem. The issue is when you think it’s a flaw rather than a virtue, and you ruin the pleasant notes. I’ll use it until it runs out, but since I found that caviar part unpleasant, I know I’ll set it aside like others that excited me with a WOW and then I found the ‘wow but…’. The search for the perfect scent continues… There are thousands of options….. 🌼🌺🌷🌸⚜️💐🏵️🌹🥀🪵🟫💲☢️🤩🤔😳😉😄🏝️🏖️🌅🌃

It’s good for being close to you, like Invictus, Sauvage, or One Million: a familiar scent, nothing new. Diesel Bad is cheap, and compared to those overused perfumes, I’d switch a thousand times for this. Anyone who smells it will surely like it. For weird scents there are hundreds, but this is the one you should have to wear without worry. I’ve had the first one for a year, and yesterday I bought another for Christmas because I missed that generic but rich scent that doesn’t go unnoticed by women, watch out for that date haha

  • Wasonhound0525

Probably a hidden gem, similar to Diesel Plus Plus in some notes but much more interesting and deep. I wear it all year round, it has good performance without being overwhelming, and it begs to be smelled; compliments are endless. You can shower, and among the vapors you still smell great. 🐿️🇦🇷

  • Wasonhound0525

Probably a hidden gem few know, similar to Diesel Plus Plus in some notes but much more interesting and deep. I’ve worn it in all seasons and it has good performance that doesn’t overwhelm but invites people to get close; compliments are endless. You can be in the shower and among the vapors, you’ll still smell like this fragrance. 🐿️🇦🇷

I’m new to perfumes, and as soon as I smelled the decant, it clicked instantly. It’s like a mix between Invictus and Bad Boy: intense, but what a surprise. It’s not innovative, it’s a warm and versatile classic. I recommend it, but only as a decant because I don’t want to spend that much; I wouldn’t buy the original for under $10 at knock-off shops

  • Kepa_Jametxo_Masrica

To me, the caviar note smells like canned mussels. I was the only one who noticed, but it seemed curious lol
