  It’s my favorite from A&F, even though Authentic EDT is technically superior; Self won my heart for being effortless and charming, without any fuss. As the younger sibling in the collection, it has a cheerful, modern vibe: it opens with wet cedar and a subtle electric ginger. The drydown flies off quickly, with the heart and base notes arriving almost together, where geranium and violets create a sweet, soapy masculine scent that sometimes reminds me of ambroxan. It closes with light cedar and plush, dark Madagascar vanilla. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel; it follows the trend of fresh fragrances, with nuances that recall Dior Sauvage EDT due to the ambroxan or Hugo Boss Bottled Night for that intense soapiness. It’s a ‘blue’ fragrance done right. Picture a summer house with a pool, blooming bushes, and strong sunlight; the breeze brings that aquatic scent of evaporated water mixed with flowers and semi-sweet woods, like a serene aromatherapy right at your nose. It’s not intrusive or loud, just pleasant. Lasts about 6 hours, with average projection for the first hour, then stays skin-close, making it ideal for the office or morning outings in the heat. It’s carefree, friendly, and happy—a scent that won’t bother anyone and conveys transparency. On my personal scale, it’s a 2/4: the performance is discreet, the notes come out a bit messy and fast, and I don’t perceive many nuances. It lacks originality, though it’s not a copy; it’s like a teenage version of Sauvage, stripped of its spicy and serious edge. Thanks to its versatility, it doesn’t clutter any collection.
