  • Not sure if this is the current or old version of JCE; I think it’s the first one because the second one has a very noticeable oakmoss vibe, which I don’t detect here. The opening is top-tier; the same person kept complimenting me non-stop. You can really smell the greenness of the cassis and a slightly powdery, very original note of gooseberry blossom. The fruitiness can sometimes feel cloying and is quite common, but here, with that floral orange blossom tone, it works beautifully and brings me pure joy. Although it fades gradually, it never fully disappears. The evolution happens as the green cassis gives way to galbanum, a note that’s not easy for my generation to appreciate, yet it never becomes too wild or dated. I also think it’s thanks to this note, plus something else in the mix, that it reminds me of a perfume worn by a family member. Also worth mentioning are the red fruits that add a sweetness that’s anything but cloying, blending perfectly with the whole. After about three hours, a vetiver note became dominant (with intensity already waning); it was powdery and musky, and honestly, it started to disappoint me, making me think again about how fleeting Ellena’s scents can be. But I did take that classic Spanish siesta, and when I woke up, it still smelled just as good as before that powdery phase, haha. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain; I need to try it again. But what is certain is that even though the intensity fades, it lasts around 10 hours or more. I’ll share a more definitive opinion later, but for now, it seems like a great perfume and confirms Hermes’ trend of avoiding the fleeting fads that 90% of brands fall for. Finally, it’s similar to Rose Amazone; you can definitely smell the DNA.
