The original is a top-tier classic, perfect for daily summer wear, though I still stick with 1916 out of nostalgia. This ‘fresh’ version by Álvarez-Gómez has been a total flop: it smells very synthetic, like a plastic citrus orange paired with a soda-like sweetness. I didn’t like it; I’d rather have the original a thousand times over. And yes, it definitely smells like insecticide to me too.

The original is a fantastic classic, a perfect cologne for everyday summer, though I prefer the 1916 for sentimental reasons. This ‘fresh’ version by Álvarez-Gómez has been a disappointment; it smells very synthetic, a citrusy orange but in a very plastic way that drifts into a carbonated drink sweetness. I didn’t like it; I’ll stick with the original a thousand times over. And yes, it does smell like bug spray to me too.

I’d use it more, but I can’t find the right moment to smell like bug spray.

I’d wear it more often, but I can never find the right moment to smell like insecticide.

A real treat when the heat is on. Refreshing, cheerful, with very well-worked citrus notes. As they say, if the label said something else, it would cost 5 or 10 times more. It lasts about 3 hours of pure citrus enjoyment at a more than fair price. Highly recommended from a house that does things right. Bravo to Álvarez Gómez.

  7. This cologne is, by far, my favorite when the thermometer passes 40 degrees. It’s a citrus with a glacial effect, with a touch of rosemary and soft musk that leaves a faint skin-level memory. Like a gin and tonic on a stifling night. Balsamic. In my opinion, the best of Álvarez Gómez. It could last longer, but I doubt you’ll find a better cologne for 30€ for 750ml.

  9. This is a real pleasure when the heat hits. A sharp, very fresh citrus with aromatic touches and a musky dry-down. Performance is more than acceptable for an eau de cologne, plus you find it at a ridiculous price. Highly recommended.

Of the three I have, this is my favorite Álvarez Gómez, better than the classic though I like that too. I notice it’s a bit more punchy and it’s the one I always choose. When I finish the other two, I’ll only restock this one. It has just the right duration to refresh you after a shower or on hot nights, lasting a few hours with a lemon-lime orange and rosemary scent. It serves to give you energy when the heat makes you sluggish or to relax on stifling days. Unmatched freshness and cleanliness. The price is ridiculous and reapplying is a pleasure. I highly recommend it, it won’t disappoint in any situation.

The opening is wild. Lots of citrus peels, bitter and astringent. No mercy. This gives the fragrance a cold sensation, just as one comment below says. Later, when the opening settles, it leaves a clean musk. I prefer the original, but I admit this version is quite good, super refreshing and energizing.

  12. Mundolores

Sparkling and energetic aroma. The opening is very citrusy and green. I also detect juniper berries, which makes it quite clean. It reminds me a bit of men’s grooming products (shaving foam and aftershave). Ideal for right after a shower when you want to prolong that freshly washed feeling.

  13. Psicostasis

If the orange one sounded average, this is worse. It takes all the dissonances of its sister and cranks them up a notch, channeled through that shrill pine. Maybe just too refreshing for my body.

  15. Amarilisbelladona

By far my favorite of all Álvarez Gómez scents, it’s extremely youthful, energizing, luminous, and refreshing; it carries rosemary in just the right measure and a musk so light it’s barely noticeable, but once it settles, the pine note is a hit and makes it unique. I don’t mind that it doesn’t last long because I enjoy reapplying it; it refreshes me and puts me in a good mood. Plus, the price allows it, making it one of those eau de colognes ideal for the whole family. Despite having many other citrus options, I’ve restocked it because it’s one of the few I use up the entire large bottle without even realizing it. It stands toe-to-toe with many designer eau de toilettes, with nothing to envy. A real treat!

  16. Carcanuelo

Álvarez Gómez surprises us again. This eau de cologne is a beast, rivaling the original and even surpassing Acqua di Parma. The opening is an explosive citrus cocktail of orange and lime that wakes you up instantly. Then comes that soapy, sweet touch blended with a fine rosemary note, rounding everything off perfectly. The only downside is it fades in an hour, but who cares when you love it so much that reapplying every hour is a pleasure? For this price, there’s no excuse. Luxury Spanish perfumery at chiringuito prices.

The best cologne I’ve ever tried. It starts with a strong citrus charge where lemon rules over orange. The rosemary is there, adding aroma without masking the freshness like in other versions. I love how it dries down: the citrus gives way to delicious musk and amber, keeping that freshly showered feeling. It’s the perfect companion for summer after a bath.

Beast mode. This is a cologne on another level that has nothing to envy from niche fragrances. The only flaw is it lasts 15 minutes, gone in a breath. Ideal for quick errands or before jumping in the pool for a refreshing dip. Smells incredible, even to me, who isn’t usually a fan of fresh scents.

  19. It’s the most refreshing cologne I’ve worn. In summer, with those temperatures, putting this on is pure relief. The scent is rich, tender, bright, and feels like you’re soaking in cold water. Perfect for heatwaves, pure energy and freshness.

Every time I try an Álvarez Gómez, I think if the label said Acqua di Parma, I’d pay for it and buy it anyway. It’s super refreshing, energizing, and clean. Few things are better for surviving extreme heat.
